In the intrest of maximizing the security of the nation and providing a defense against attack from nanomachines, the Ministry of Research and Science has begun working with the Ministry of the Armada and Military to develop and implement a nanodefense system to operate on Xanthalian planets and/or starships. The decision was made to pursue the system after Xanthal's latest defense review, conducted last month, revealed a hole in Xanthalian protection on the nano level. "To put it simply," said Minister of the Armada and Military Sandra Jin, "We can defend the country from a fleet of starships, but not from a machine the size of the head of a pin. Clearly that's not acceptable."
Since Xanthal's current ability in manufacturing and operating nanomachines is quite basic, a considerable upgrade to current technology will have to be made in order to facilitate an effective defensive system. Due to the scale of the project and current shortcomings in Xanthalian technology, no final plans are expected for at least a decade, and a system could take as long as twenty years to put in place. "The point is that we're moving," said the Minister of Research and Science, "We've seen a place we can improve, and it will be improved upon. That's what advancement is."
