<<OOC: I'm going to allow the general populace of NationStates to determine 20% of the vote. The other 80% is already decided by me. Have fun.

And a little bit of background: The Imperator of Edolia holds executive power in Edolia with Legislative and Judical power in the hands of the democratically-elected parlaiment. People vote for parties, not candidates and those parties appoint ministers. There are 500 ministers in Parlaiment.

I wish to apologize. I could go into much greater detail about all this but I'm tired and want to go to bed. I've been postponing these elections for a very long time now and just want to be done with them.>>

The polls close tonight in the Scarlet Empire's second ever elections. Tensions with Allanea are expected to dominate these elections with the Red Flag and Imperial parties expected to gain many seats. The Freedom Party is expected to come in with almost no support this time around, with anti-Allanean sentiment running extremely high. The other major loser will be the Socialist Party, which is expected to fall behind its rivals drastically.

And now, a brief run-down of Edolia's major political parties.

Some parties cannot be voted for as only a certain number of poll options are possible. Those parties are ones that I would rather choose the support of anyway.

The Edolian Communist Party, headed by Jeni von Roth, currently heads up the Edolian government. It is pro-democracy, sociallly libertarian and economically quite far left. It heads up the ruling Communist coalition.

The Edolian Socialist Party advocates the revolutionary idea of allowing private ownership and reducing the state control over the country's industry. Socially, it tends to be more wishy-washy although in general, it is quite liberal. The Socialist Party heads up opposition Socialist coalition.

The Edolian Imperial Party is officially led by the Imperator of Edolia, although he does not engage in many of its day-to-day workings. It has almost no political stance on any issues and generally supports the decisions of the Imperator, believing that he has ruled the country well for many years and can be trusted to continue. It is a part of the ruling Communist coalition. [Cannot be voted for[

The Christian-Capitalist Coalition is similar to the American Republican Party. They advocate sweeping capitalist and social reforms, including massive cut-backs in immigration and huge governmental spending reductions. It is a member of the opposition Socialist coalition.

The Freedom Party is socially and economically libertarian and is the largest party to challenge the Imperator's right to rule. It is a member of the opposition Socialist coalition. [Cannot be voted for[

The Red Flag Party is identical to the Communist Party on internal affairs but is far more hawkish when it comes to foreign relations. Believing that Edolia should take a firm stand against foreign -and especially Allanean- aggression, the Red Flag Party advocates massive military spending boosts and a more active role overseas. It is a member of the ruling Communist coalition.

The Green Party, like the Imperial Party, tends to be wishy-washy on most issues. It is, however, the only political party in Edolia that was given a ranking of "Very Good" by Greenpeace. It believes that the Edolian government should put a greater emphasis on the environment. It is a member of the ruling Communist coalition.

Five years ago, the results were as follows:

Edolian Communist Party (C): 23.4% --117 MPs
Edolian Socialist Party (S): 21.6% --108 MPs
Edolian Imperial Party (C): 18.1% --91 MPs
Christian-Capitalist Coalition (S): 12% --60 MPs
Freedom Party (S): 7.8% --39 MPs
The Red Flag Party (C): 7.5% --37 MPs
The Green Party (C): 5.3% --27
Other Independent Socialist Supporters (S): 3.1% --15 MPs
Other Independent Communist Supporters (C): 1.2% --6 MPs

Total:
Communist Coalition: 278 Ministers (56%)
Socialist Coalition: 222 Ministers (44%)

The polls close in two days at which point I will announce the results.

OOC: I would have supported the Freedom Party but now I am driven to the Christian-Capitalist Coalition. Well, they will never get their entire party-programme anyways so its a matter of direction I guess.... *sigh*

OOC: Why does the Christian-Capitalist Party form coalition with Socialists? Meh

OOC: Why does the Christian-Capitalist Party form coalition with Socialists?

Because the Socialists are closer to their ideology than the capitalists. It's basically opposition unity.

Sarcasm ... why no Edolian Imperial Party (C) in the poll?

Because you can only have so many options and I figured that not many people would vote for that party anyway... It doesn't actually have much of a platform and its support is only an indicator of the Imperator's charisma.

I cast my vote for the Christian-Capitalist Party because of my nation's strong pro-business government.

The Free Republic of Ilek-Vaad endorses the freedom party and will donate heavily to their campaign funds. We will not vote however.
