Swordmasters of Ginaz

In a massive conference room, an elderly man with a sheathed sword strapped to his side stepped forward and in a deep booming voice read out the message from the Swords Council of the Swordmasters of Ginaz.

"In honor of the anniversary of the death of the one known simply as the Swordmaster, the Swordmasters of Ginaz will begin their subjugation of the nation of Weyr. The ambassador from the nation of Weyr has insulted the integrity and the honor of the Swordmasters of Ginaz. We the people of the Swordmasters of Ginaz hold honor above all else. Therefore, we shall avenge this insult upon our reputation. We will subjugate the nation of Weyr and crush it beneath our feet..."

Within minutes, a squadron of purchased Virginia IX SSNs took up positions surrounding the island nation of Weyr.

A short communication was sent to the government.

<High Council Chamber; City of Wye>

" . . . as we do not currently have the required moneys, I see no choice but to request that a state of war be declared between our nation and the Swordmasters of Ginaz," the High King Lorren finished, before sitting down in the chair to the right of the Supreme Counsellor.
"What about alliances?" the counsellor from the southern region of Rath spoke.
"Calling in any alliances will only make things worse. Right now we pose no threat. Bringing anyone else in will turn this islnd into a wasteland," counsellor Ragios of Wye responded.
It took another two hours of debate before the arguments were through. Silence filled the chamber.

"All in favor?" the Supreme Counsellor asked after a time, rising. Numbers flashed on the creen. 321-29.
"In accordiance with the vote, we herby declare that a state of war now exists between out peoples."

<High Guard Court, City of Wye>
[code:1:fd885dd9a7]It is herby requested in the name of the High King, that an additional 10,000 guardsmen be called into active service. Recomendations to limit noncombatant casualties will require the removal of guardsmen from major population centers.

Weyr Daily News; one hour after declaration of war.
Following a three hour debate, the Council has declared an official state of war between the Swordmasters of Ginaz and Weyr. In order to limit collateral damage, the King Lorren has requested that the people and the local councils cooperate with Ginaz occupation forces to the extent permissable by the Law Common. . .
It is currently unknown as to the exact causes of this unexpected declaration of war on the part of Ginaz. However, failing in ability to meet the damands imposed upon our nation, it has been seen that little choice now remains as to our course of action. As Weyr has not had official relations with any nations or alliances utsie of the North Pacific, the 'insult' caused by a 'diplomat' from this nation may be only a petext. . .
The King has requested that five companies of the High Guard report to their staging areas within the next six hours. . .[/code:1:fd885dd9a7]

Meanwhile, the embassy of the Swordmasters of Ginaz located at the city of Wye began to evacuate. The company of 200 marines guarding the embassy quickly moved to defensive positions. As they did so, the compound was surrounded by a strong force of Weyrian guard personnel. Several trigger-happy marines quickly opened fire, sending the Weyrian troops onto the offensive.

The marine commander, Colonel Joseph Gadari swore when he heard the gunfire. Not caring who had opened fire first, the colonel ordered his men to hold their defense positions and keep the Weyrian guardsmen back for as long as possible. Afraid that the compound would be breached before the personnel could be evacuated, the colonel quickly sent a message, which was relayed to the submarines, requesting assistance...

Hastily, the embassy personnel boarded the myriad of helicopters. Soon, they began to take off with the most important personnel.

Wye is a highland city of approximately 2,500,000 people, set on the northeastern slopes of the eastern mountain range. The River Wye flows nearby, feeding the terraces that provide food for most of the city. Wye also contains the dam complex that provides flood control for most of the island.

"Companies 1, 2, disengage; repeat disengage."
"Stet," the response came instantly over the com.
"Ser, they're pulling out," undercaptain Ren Sharl spoke from her console without turning, her eyes fixed on the portable console screen. “Choppers,” she added, unnecessarily.
"Request backup from Companies 3, 4," Commander Leroy Nash commanded. The gunfire just two blocks away did not bother him. Little did, or could. Like most of the Guard, he was a veteran of the Wyean Civil War and all of its bloody lessons. “Keep Company 5 on standby.”

He stepped out of the command vehicle – an unremarkable converted refrigerator truck parked two blocks west of the Ginaz embassy. A battered pair of military jeeps raced by. Anther Ginaz chopper flew somewhere overhead. Standing outside, a cigarette in his mouth, the Commander of the First Company might have passed for a truck driver, unless one looked closely enough to notice the crossed double sabers on his green shirt collar. The staff would call him if there were any problems.

Meanwhile, in the Command and Information Center, beneath the High Guard Court, half a mile north from the Ginaz Embassy.
“ . . . Dozen subs on passive sonar, 1st Regiment in action against Ginaz marines at embassy . . .” the King read silently from the screen. The center hummed with activity, as information poured in, and staff members reported for duty.
“How is the recall?” he asked finally.
“Wye brigade at 60%; Southport brigade at 45%; Westkeep brigade at 31%; Tripoint brigade at 77%,” Captain Sean Luc responded. He had been assigned as the King’s temporary aide. The King nodded in reply. This month’s standby regiments were assembling more or less as planned. A bit behind schedule, but better than expected nonetheless.
“I think, the Councilors should return to their regions; before hostilities break out,” the King said after a time.

On the seas around the island nation of Weyr, a small unarmed merchantman equipped with a landing pad for helicopters began to load up the evacuees.

Meanwhile, at the embassy, the marines put up stout resistance using their MP5A5 submachine guns, G36E rifles, G36C rifles, and grenades. As the marines fought, the message had been received by the squadron of submarines patrolling the seas around the island. Within a half hour, four Tomahawk missiles were launched from one of the Virginia XI Class SSNs. The four missiles, guided by a rangefinder controlled by one of the marines quickly plowed into the ground surrounding the compound, shaking the ground and gouging the earth.
