Argyllia has decided to run the very first Cricket World Cup (as far as we know) the competition will be of a test match nature over a period of several months. All the venues will be in Argyllia unless anyone else wants to do a joint hosting job. When you sign up I will need a team of 11 players:
5 Batsmen
2 Allrounders
4 Bowlers
Ideally I would like to have 4 groups of 4, if we don't get enough it'll be ok but I really want 16 teams:
Argyllian Team:
J Cakebread
M Garrat
J Lord
T Day
B Titman
S Chandarrana
R Tilbury
J Robinson
P Katcheia
A Tailor
D Burt

The New Primerian team looks foward to participating in this event. We are also willing to offer assistance in the administration of the event if need be.

P Garbett (right hand bat) (22)
B Meynell (left hand bat) (22)
M Jacobson (right hand bat) (21)
All-rounders:
C Forster (wicket keeper, right hand bat) (18 )
M Chapaev (right arm medium-fast, right hand bat) (22)
Bowlers:
A Gnedojs (right arm fast bowler) (23)
D Martensson (right arm fast-medium) (24)
C Bras (leg spin) (22)
N Swain (left arm fast) (23)
--------
Reserves:
M Ramakars (batsman, left hand bat) (20)
C Garzon (batsman, right hand bat) (24)
D Daigremont (all-rounder, right hand bat, right arm medium) (21)
D Odemira (all-rounder - wicket keeper, left hand bat) (18 )
I Hansson (all rounder - off spin, left hand bat) (26)
I don't know what you want to do with wicket keepers, I've put them in as all-rounders for the moment. I've given you some extra info on all my squad who have 5 reserves. Ages are in brackets.
As you can see we're a young nation who don't have much experience and we're here to learn. Talents to watch out for are young wicket keeper Calum Forster who has been piling up the run in the Agnostic Sheep domestic league as well as being the captain of the Agnostic Sheep U19 side, John Cobby, the only Agnsotic Sheep to play professionally abroad and Anatolijs Gnedojs a fast bowler who has been known to hit 90mph.

New format a knockout tournament, losers go into the plate. Each match has two legs if its a draw over both legs whoever won by the most goes through, if both games are drawn a deciding 1-day game is played to determine who goes through. A 1 wicket win is worth 30 runs and so on.

Argyllia

Coach Ray Bailey was very pleased with his teams performance in their first match, 'Alot of pressure has been heaped on the teams young shoulders y Argyllia's press corps, it would be very difficult for the team if they where knocked out in the first round. Especially as it is in our own country'
He went on to say that he was extremely pleased with the team in the 1st innings where consistent partnerships throughout the innings brought the total up to 331. He especially praised the 129 3rd wicket stand between Day and Titman which provided the backbone of the innings. Bailey went on to say he was a bit frustrated when the Hawcoat innings began well untill a quick 3 wickets from Tailor brought a collapse from 96-2 to 185 all out. He added that from then on he was impressed by the team for piling on the pressure and not leeting the talented Hawcoat team back into the game.
Man of the Match was R.Tilbury the allrounder who scored an impressive 83, he mainly plays off the backfoot and pulled the Hawcoat quicks with ease in his fluent innings. He also took the breakthrough wicket of Vine and took the last two wickets to finish the tail off in the Hawcoat first innings, with figure 3-31. Titman was a close contender with two 50's in the game, 62 and 66.

Lennon Marx falls heartbreakingly close
A 96 run 7th wicket partnership proved to be almost enuff in the final innings to get home, after Lennon Marx were bolwed back into the match by Eales and Walker, only to fall two runs short. "We had a number of chances in the field," said Clayton Smith, who scored 77 in the second innings, "but didnt take many of them at all. It was a truly heartbreaking loss, and we will do our best to make up for it in the return leg." In what proved to be the match of the round, Smith combined with Sparg and both were helped by tail order comeos from Eales and Walker, before wickets with succesive balls ensured the nail biting win. Eales, who also scored 48 in the first innings and took 4 second innings wickets was named man of the Match. "Id give up this award in a millisecond to get another shot at the end. Had I hit the last ball of the previous over for four, instead of two- itd have been a tie. Should Lennon Marx win the return leg they will need a three run victory to progress

New Primeria won by 5 wickets
Man of the match is C Bras
Agnostic Sheep coach Alan Sheppard expressed his dissapointment in his side's batting line up as they lost to New Primeria by 5 wickets:
"I felt the top order let us down yesterday. No one got a fifty except Micky Seggons in the second innings and he wasn't given any support. We need to get beyond scoring 20s and 30s and then giving wickets away cheaply. Cobby, Meynell, Garbett and Forster all got into a good rhythm at some time during the match but then lost their wickets."
However he was pleased with the performance of the bowlers especially man of the match Calvino Bras who took 5-43 in the first innings:
"We bowled very well in the first innings especially and on that pitch their top order had no answer to Bras' spin. I have to say the whole attack did fantastically well to bowl Primeria out for under 200 and I was pleased with the bowler's contribution to our batting totals. Dan Martensson got past 20 in both innings and Gnedojs and Bras helped us a lot in the first innings. If the top order had scored more heavily we might have won the match."
"In the end though Primeria's target was just too small and it was unrealistic to expect a quality team like them to be bowled out for under 200 again. We did very well to contain them though and certainly gave them a scare."
"We need to beat them by 150 runs next time out and if the top order perform I'm confident we can do that."

Vilita (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/34936/page=display_nation/nation=vilita) prepare for final push
Addressing the media on the status of theColony of Vilita (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/34936/page=display_nation/nation=vilita)'s chances in the semi finals of the Cricket World Cup, a national spokesperson said:
"Lennon Marx will be a tought side, as any would, to over come at this stage of a major competition. However, the entire nation is perked with confidence and all the guys are just going out there everyday and using that as a catalyst for some pretty outstanding performances. They had a bit of a scare in the second test at Cockbill Street, but they kept it together and have made it to the semi-finals of a major world sporting cup for the first time in the Nation's history. I'm sure they'll be all over the backs of the footy guys when they get back, as I know they've gotten off to a bit of a rough start."

Argyllia
23-03-2004, 20:39
The Argyllian team had proven all its doubts wrong in their first two games, they had crushed Hawcoat twice despite them being rated as being one of the up and coming teams of world cricket.
The match started badly for the Argyllians when they where dissmissed for 175 in their first innings replying to Hawcoats 290 which was due to the inspirational bowling of Katcheia who took 6-71. The only thing saving the Argyllian first innings was the ever consistent Bryce Titman who scored 60 again with his team in dire trouble. The Hawcoat second innings was a disaster for the Argyllian team a superb 143 by Vine was the first 100 of the tournament and destroyed the Argyllian bowling attack before a spell of fast bowling by Amit Tailor gave Argyllia a slim chance of victory. At this point in the game Argyllia needed 484 to win and had a real chance of being knocked out the tournament. But then the finest batting display so far by the team produced an awesome win by 5 wickets. Cakebread and Day both hit big hundreds and Titman and Lord both provided support with 50's.

Tied Second Test in Height of Drama
DisPirito Destroys Spirited Streeters
Eight for twelve. Those are figures you don't see too often on a cricket scorecard. Neither do you often see that amazing row of ducks that the Rats lined up in the evening and early morning sessions in Argyllia. Cheery Littlebottom lbw b DisPirito 0. Colin Nicklaus c Alam b DisPirito 0. Lars Bearhugger c Alam b Drezner 0. Tom Aitkin c Brezner b DisPirito 0. When all is said and done, the Rats made a dismal 61.
The second innings bowling was reasonable, and again it was the seamers Jackrum and Aitkin who did the job. Sharing seventeen out of 20 Vilitan wickets between them, for am mere 165 runs, one has to wonder what the other three bowlers were doing - they went three for 254 in total in the game (Bearhugger 2 for 75, Carter 1 for 84, Nicklaus 0 for 95).
Chasing 395 to win, the Rats had a formidable task. But helped by a rather inadequate Vilitan keeper, some decent batting from Bjorn Stronginthearm especially (who made the highest score in the test series, with his splendid 128 knock) but who was also supported by the lower order batsmen. Lars Bearhugger didn't do much with the ball in this series, but a 44 and a good 7th-wicket partnership with Colin Nicklaus, who made 61, saved the day. However, DisPirito destroyed our hopes again. After a relatively poor bowling effort, where he could only get Jones early on and was slammed for 71 off 19 overs, he suddenly managed to get good ball in which beat Carter, sneaked under his bat, and into his off-stump. 394 for 9. Needing another run, and with Aitkin on strike, he successfully blocked the next ball of the over. Jackrum then blocked for an over, got off the strike, and it was Aitkin to face Darcy. He tried to drive for the winning single, missed it, the ball was caught by Alam behind the stumps, and somehow the umpire had seen a nick and sent Aitkin to the pavillion. A tied Test - probably the only one the Championship for many years - sent Cockbill Street out of the tournament in a dismal sixth place.
Agnostic Sheep team manager Alan Sheppard expressed his delight at the eight wicket win which took the Sheep into the semi-final and a tough match against hosts and favourites Argyllia. Needing to win by 150 runs or 5 wickets was a tough ask especially after New Primeria made 393 in their first innings, scoring steadily. Once again spinner Bras was influential taking four wickets and Nigel Swain dismissed both openers early on. In reply the sheep were fantastic with the top 5 all scoring half-centuries and Paul Garbett hitting 97 as the Sheep made 482.
In what was promising to be a high scoring game the star of the second Primeria innings was Dan Martensson who took 7-81, including the crucial wicket of Maddock who made centuries in both innings, when Maddock attempted a pull shot which he sliced and Gnedojs caught him brilliantly at third man. Martensson also cleaned up the Primeria tail, reducing them from 306-5 to 338 all out.
The sheep needed 251 to win the test and a five wicket victory to have a chance of progressing. Things started badly when Seggons was trapped lbw for 18 with the score at 49-1 and Cobby went for 57 at 125-2. However the inspirational batting of Garbett and Meynell brought the Sheep home with ease, Garbett making 90 not out and Meynell hitting an unbeatan 61 off 66 balls.
Afterwards the manager was delighted with his squad:
"The batting line up was superb today, after the dissapointment of the first test, they really concentrated and got big scores. Dan Martensson was excellent in the attack and Calvino Bras did an able job again on a pitch which was much easier to bat on than last time."
"We face Argyllia in the semi-finals and that will be tough. They're a world class team and the favourites but if we play like we did today there's a chance."

Two very close games all to play for in the final legs of the semi-finals, Argyllia v Agnostic Sheep was the closest game in argyllia's tournament so far, the batting was disapointing in both innings apart from the exceptions of the two century makers Matthew Garrat and James Lord who basically saved the game. In the next game the Argyllian batsmen had better get a grip on the Sheeps bowling attack
Lennon Marx
26-03-2004, 06:56
the first first round game between Lennon Marx and Leggy Angels came down to two runs.
Nevertheless, we are reasonably confident going into the second leg...
In a now familiar site Agnostic Sheep manager lambasted his batting line-up for a spectacular collapse as they fell short of Argyllia by 62 runs:
"We were terrible in the second innings. No one got a big score at all in the top five and although the pitch has deteriorated no one showed enough character to take the game by the scruff of the neck."
"However I was pleased with our performance until then, we had Argyllia rattled and got a good score in the first innings on a tricky pitch. If we play like that again we've got a chance."
