As a matter of public education for all the possibley ignorant humans of the world, Grand Hobgoblonia has decided to issue a public service announcement regarding "What is a Hobgoblin?" <<and also to make general announcement about Grand Hobgoblonia's RP style. Everything mentioned about hobgoblins hereforth is in regards to Grand Hobgoblonia's version of the hobgoblin.>>

Grand Hobgoblonia is a nation primarily composed of above mentioned Hobgoblin, with a small minority of humans (approx 2% pop.) from a variety of nations who seem to immigrate primarily for Grand Hobgoblonia's economic opportunities.

In appearance Hobgoblins are on average slightly larger in mass than are humans, with orange to red fur of various lengths.

Culturally/behaviorally hobgoblins have a history of monarch/authoritarianism, based on a seeming psychological need for a recognizable hierarchy. Without a clear leader hobgoblins are predisposed toward branding themselves as leader until another leader has been clearly defined, either by way of obvious appearances or by contest in less obvious circumstances. Some sociologists have mistakenly made the comparison of hobgoblin behavior to canine/dog/wolf pack behavior, but the hobgoblin is less of a pack animal and more of an alpha dog animal. Once the hobgoblin accepts his or her position in the hierarchy, few show much tendency to question that place.

There seems to be little distinction in this behavioral pattern or much else for behavior between male and female, and their society reflects a very un-gender-biased attitude by nature. There are no known restrictions or benefits to either sex in Grand Hobgoblonia.

While authoritarian in terms of politics and ultimate decisions, hobgoblins tend to be less controlling of personal affairs, again extending from their hierarchal instincts. Respect in the hobgoblin world goes to those who prove their strength of will in the test of an ultimately unsympathetic environment. Thus, there is little government protection of the poor, and at the same time little protection of industry; though in general big business does get more respect because in the hobgoblin mindset big business is big because it has earned its place there, having not been backed artificially by the government to begin with.

So the balance of power in hobgoblin society tends to prioritize government, then industry, then individual, so in the hobgoblin mindset, even the individual, in theory, has the "right" to overthrow the government if he proves strong enough. As most individuals do not have that strength, however, it legitimizes the "right" of the government to assert its own strength.

In religion Grand Hobgoblonia has a rough tradition of worshipping its Monarch, whom apparantly remains nameless, and some outside observers have questioned whether has any real power or if simply stands as a symbol while the Prime Minister or other government office actually runs the nation. Most hobgoblins would be classified as agnostic or atheist, with a minority of Shinto, Buddhists, and Catholics, in that order (altogether about 10% of population.)

Technologically Grand Hobgoblonia is in the slightly post-modern or sometimes called "early cyberpunk" era. The leading industry of the nation is Information Technology, with Cheese Exports a close second. Uranium Mining is predicted to usurp the third position of Woodchip Exports within the next year.

As of (3/20/04) Grand Hobgoblonia's economy is Very Strong with a population of 16 million, putting the GDP (http://www.pipian.com/stuffforchat/gdpcalc.php?nation=Grand%20Hobgoblonia&defenseprovided=1&militarybudget=1&defense=70) at thereabouts of $240B. Military spending is at 70% of the national budget, or around $37B per year, and while Grand Hobgoblonia does not have a strong weapons industry, the Security Ministry does shop abroad. Service is mandatory for all of age hobgoblins for at least one year, putting the overall military at about 2% of the population, with 40% of that number being active and 60% on reserve.

The national animal is the "majestic hog," and the currency, which has not been recognized by any stock markets or international exchanges at this time, is the hobmark.
