What a year! A year already? Bah...time is meaningless!

Steel Butterfly

Wow...it doesn't even seem like a year's past. I've made the one year mark on other message boards or rping groups, but it's always seemed like it. I guess in reinforces what I've always known...NS is special among such things.

So here I sit, listening to Welcome to the Jungle by Guns 'n Roses, trying to be elegant with words as my characters so often are in RP's, but I figure that I'll just jot down some thoughts instead.

First of all, for all who don't know of my ongoing civil war, READ IT!

Cold to the Touch (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2598138#2598138)

Let the Outside Slowly Die (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2631904#2631904)

The war, which I originally had planned to end today, is nearing the half way point (You just can't plan for NS) and it will effect Steel Butterfly, The Orion Sector, and all of my characters more than any other NS event...EVER! Also in the future is Realm of the Risen II and the third, and final, chapter in the Warheit Saga. (The first RotR and Warheit I&II all won various NS awards in RP award threads and all are archived.)

I'm trying to think back and remember all that I've done in NS, and I'm just going to list and comment on what I can remember. If you remember something about me or that I did that I don't remember, just post it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power Slave, Bivens and later, Diamond Sabre, and Destroyer
These guys were my crew in High School. We were all on the baseball and football teams, we all had computer class 7th period, and we all thought it was the easiest thing ever. Because of this, we did a lot of random web searches. This led to my discovery of NationStates. At first, only Power Slave and Bivens played with me, but eventually Diamond Sabre and Destroyer joined in. Because the five of us were also in a band, and we all liked Metal, we founded the region "Slayerville". Within a week, we realized that sounded gay, so we changed to the "Ragnarok Alliance".

Now that we're in college, I'm the only one remaining. While Bivens and Destroyer gave me their nations, Power Slave and Diamond Sabre didn't stand the test of time. Bivens is still a good friend of mine, but he's a genious and triple-majoring. Needless to say, he has zero time for NS. I rarely see the other two, minus summer time.

Walten
In my second week of the game, a nation named MagicChina attacked me cause he thought my name was "girly" and that I needed a beat down. After arguing tirelessly with him (I assume) about how no real national leader would ever do that, Bivens, Power Slave, and I went to war, and Walten jumped to help out. Together we beat the shit out of MC and pilfered his nation. This led to an IC and an OOC friendship that lasted three more wars up until reports of his death. (Which I don't believe...but whatever) I always remember talking about guitars, girls, his sister's boyfriend that he hated, and him getting so pissed off when Blueville called him a bitch. Lol...

Blueville, Kellerville, Leg, Heaven Falling Down, Pantera Forever, and others.
All of these bastards are dead now, but for a time they're all I thought about on NS. These nations were our rivals intentionally. When we were in the "Ragnarok Alliance" they were in the region "Anti-Ragnarok". When we later founded "Midnight", they were in the region "Sunlight". Both times we fought wars, both times they went nuclear in the end, and both times they got their asses whooped. However, they did manage to destroy my Earth colony (in my timeline, all of western russia is radioactive) and force me into only being in the Orion Sector...something I wanted anyhow.

Maxter, Cspalla, The Damned People, Ragnarok Alliance, Midnight, Midnight Incorporated Empire, and the Orion Sector Alliance
All of those guys and gals in my many regions, Max and C especially, have always been fun to be around. I'm a little more distant now, as I have a region for myself and my puppets only, but the memories and shit we posted in the regional message board are classic. I just wish The Damned People would get more involved like he once was.

WMNK Alliance
Seeing a growing alliance of nations my age and a coalition against n00bs demanding better roleplaying in the pre-mod age, I quickly joined. Ultimately, I had to resign, due to a huge cold war between the WMNK and GDODAD

GDODAD (Global/Galactic Dominion Of Dictators Against Democracy
I entered GDODAD in it's prime, and by making one of the first "Alliance Invisionfree Boards" for them, I quickly rose to 4th in command. After Klamath went psycho (read: communist) and then eventually got deleted, I was third in charge and quickly running an ungodly amount of things behind the scenes. For a short while, GDODAD equalled Steel Butterfly, instead of The Silver Turtle who it always had. However, as they say "all good things..." After the infamous Underwater Bubble incident, which I was never a part of, the public stopped fearing and began jeering the GDODAD. Not wanting to lose what I had worked so hard for, I proposed reforms, and even GDODAD opponents loved me for it, but they were quickly swept under the rug by Lord Christopher Scott and other reformers who wanted things there way. I fought back, yet everyone was too caught up in thier own opinions of how the reform should go, so I abruptly quit, and within a week the alliance was ruined. It has never recovered.

NationStates Major League Baseball
...can be visited on the NSMLB Boards (http://invisionfree.com/forums/NationState_Baseball/). This is really a hell of a lot of fun, and all the guys like Kisnesia and Yerffej to name a few really make it great. Go Monarchs!

What I like to call the Age of RPing
After that I left the political scene for a while and decided to go a different direction. My nation had always been a space-nation and I wanted to reinforce that fact. However, I instead drifted off into fantasy, and that "drift" became the award-winning "A man is a god in ruins..." (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1930286#1930286), a pathetically short RP dealing with "time compression" and time travel...but it launched the series and one of my favorite Steel Butterfly characters: Rei Warheit (Who looks ALOT like Sephiroth).

Following that came "Ardente Veritatis, Urite Mala Mundi." (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=91315), Chapter II in the Warheit Saga. This RP won awards by itself and as part of the series. It was my first widely successfuly NS RP (I had RPed other places before and in other's threads) and some of the posts in it kicked ass. You can definately see an evolution in the posts though, as it starts out as one story and shifts over time into another. It's kinda strange looking back on it, but cool none the less.

I'll admit it, I got a GameCube only for Resident Evil. As a big fan of the series regardless of its flaws, I had played 1-3 and watched the movie...and the remake looked too cool to pass up. Because of this, I decided to make a Survival Horror RP - the first of its kind in NS. With the help of some others, I released "Realm of the Risen" (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2349150#2349150) and then wrote the short story "Engulfing Creation In Due Time" (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2268229) by myself. These RPs were more than just good RPing, the effects of them are still seen in my RPs today. In fact, these could be considered the first threads of the Civil War, although I didn't know it at the time. The events in them directly lead to the Civil War, however.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, I am no where near done. As I said, RotRII still has to come and the Warheit Saga's dramatic ending is already in the last stages of planning. Welcome to the Jungle is on repeat...and I just now realized that I was still listening to it. Ah well. I'm also working on a website for my ships and ultimately my nation. I'm going to get the most out of geocities regardless if it kills me or not.

For those who keep up with my nation, you should know that the results of my Civil War will be huge. Big stuff is going to happen, and the Orion Sector will be changed dramatically. Be sure to keep watching...I'm going to try and make this year even better than the last!

In closing, I'm going to post a collection of all the flags Steel Butterfly has ever had, from the beginning to now. From before I knew I could make my own, to my quick edit, to my first original flag, to my nation's heretic times, to the odd splatter, to the current one, they're all here.

http://207.44.246.95/129/44/upload/p444.jpg

So...go on...post congradulations, comments, or whatever else. I'd have a formal IC celebration, but due to my civil war I can't. Still...lets have an OOC one! Alcohol's on me! 8)

As one of your allies from the beggining(EG: second war with Anti-Ragnarok, WWV, pre-GDODAD membership), I feel it is amazingly... odd that we have survived on NS while so many kick ass RPers have gone. Diamond Sabre was great, Blueville and Leg were jackasses that I loved to hate, and I'm gonna stop now before I use up all my material for my b-day thread in just over a week.

I've been through some of that with you. You helped me a lot when I first came on (and declared war on everyone, in what is now known as Operation: Righteous Smackdown.....) and joined the war with Anti-Ragnarok and got into the region. The good old days. I owe a lot to you, getting me started and all.

Happy big one.

We've had some great times, Crimmond...

we need to do an RP together again...Only three ways that's gonna happen. You come to Sol, Crimmond reinstalls FTL on it's fleets or the renegade fleet running across the galaxy bumps into one of yours.

At the moment, the first would get you told off by the government, the second isn't happening, as the space colonies are being cut off and the third... well, let's just say that the renegades are staying far away from Orion untill things cool down.

EDIT: Or you get yourself in gear and start the 'thousands of years in the future' RP started, as promised. :P

Congrats on such accomplishments! I could only wish to have performed half as many feats of NS fame as you have. May your name go down in NS history as one of the best players.

Woah, woah, woah. Pantera quit? Really? Nah... well, happy birthday, Steel Butterfly. And I swear to god, one day I will finish an RP against you that doesn't involve you taking my IC remarks out of context of the discussion they were in and using them as a pretext to initiate a beat down, and then there was the paying you protection money, and then... I'll just stop there.

I've gone all emotional.

Brave, SB. Bravo. May you make it another year, and into NS2. After me, of course.

Heresy! While a good game (I always love the whole, Night of the Living Dead premise), Super Smash Brothers Melee is where it's at!

Jeepers, I'm old. I remember your little tiff with MagicChina, that was after he 'invaded' me. *Grin* needless to say I didn't take him seriously.

I've been reading your civil war stuff for a while, very impressive :)

Unfortunately, that's not going to happen unless it somehow manages to become free.

Still, I haven't had my cube for a year yet. I had already beaten Melee at a friend's house by the time I got mine.

the civil war should end first...

I mean...since it's time an all...it wouldn't have to...but I don't want shit to get too confusing. I'm planning on using certain characters in certain ways.

We never RP'd much (i.e. at all) together, but I've watched closely as Steel Butterfly changed and matured over the past year. To another great year! :P

I offer you congratulations, my friend. The road has been long, hasn't it?*
*
While we may not have always been together on things, I have always counted you among the exceptional roleplayers here, and I have always attempted to at least peruse your RP even if I cannot actively join.*
*
As for your Civil War, I've wanted in, but there is too much to go over. If you give me a brief rundown (in TG), and a possible place for me, I would consider it an honor.*
*
Be well, and may you continue for as long as you can.*

OOC: I finally found this damn thread! Ah, when I first came to NS I thought "Steel Butterfly. Interesting name" and went from there. ICly, we don't have a lot of opportunity to interact, except through the Order. But I think anyone that not only makes it for over a year and puts out some good RPs should get some kind of cookie. :)

Ah, not too much longer for yours truly.
