Post subject: Freod Announces Colonization of Sedna

I think someone has you beat there, buddy.

Also...

I is mine
I should certainly hope so.

Now for the IC bit:

<To the Greater Multiverse>

We are diverting Roving Cruiser Squadron Foxtrot to Sedna so we may ensure safe passage for the Freodian colonists. Strangely worded threats from rogue nations notwithstanding, we have seen the greed brought about by new discoveries before and will not allow it to threaten the safety of Triumvirate citizens.

One of our protectorate nations, Little Bittyland, has requested that we post this on their behalf.

They wish the "newly" discovered planetoid Sedna be left untouched, as that is the legendary burial place of their high religious figure, the BOB (no relation to our country's political leader).

As it is written - almost verbatim- in their Holy Book, The Sloshed Scrawlings of BOB Whilst In A "Coffeeshop", Chapter Unh:
4: Maaann... them [redacted] iz gonna pai for dat cheep [redacted].
19: What da [redacted] are my [redacted] fingers doing up the [redacted] of a cheap [redacted]?
2.7: I'za gonna be in spaaace soon. Gonna be up der when I iz dead. Faar away from deez weirdoz.

Their theologians, while gathered in the coffeeshop where the BOB had His revelations, and after having injested substances similar to the BOB, agreed that they indeed were going to pay, and that Sedna was where He would be.

They respectfully request that colonization activities not proceed on this planetoid.

I agree with their position, even though I do not hold with their beliefs.

With humility,

Right...

The 7th Armoured Colonisation Fleet, and its support of 7th,8th and secondary 9th Defence Division will be laying claim to a good portion of the planet. We will be willing to negotiate with anyone who has other ideas, but if this fails we Will fight for possesion.
So, you may expect arrival within your no fly zone within 7 minutes or so.
be warned, in the event that fire is directed at any vessel associated with The Pablicostan fleet we will take great haste in declaring a state of War upon the violating Nation.

You have been warned not to fire, and advised that we are prepared to negotiate so hold your fire.

Ah sure what the hell. How does half of the planet sound to you PabliCOSTA? Well the thing is 400 miles smaller than pluto so it evens out at a 1000 miles across. So you get first pick on what half you want if you feel like it. Just not in to mood to go to war over it.

Hattia would like to announce our intentions to establish a scientific outpost and a small military base on Sedna. The base is mainly to protect the outpost if someone doesn't want us here.

HNSC Star Fire

"Captain, we have just recieved orders from the People's Congress to head to the newly discovered body, 'Sedna'. We are to pick up scientists and military personnel from the base on Deimos." Captain Ustinov nodded, "Okay, Helmsman, set course for Deimos."

1 day later

"Is everyone loaded up?" "Yes Admiral" said the first officer. "Good, head to Sedna at full speed."

OOC: Phalanix, I don't think that you have the authority to parcel out Sedna. For that matter, I don't think that anyone has sufficient control out there yet to do so. I have already claimed a colony out there, so, barring any unforseen communications, I have a stronger claim to it than you do.

IC: Phalanix, considering that we have already announced out intentions of a colony out there ( http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=131957&highlight= ), we do not feel that we need ask you permission for presence on this planet. We find your claims to this planet most presumptuous.

As has been announced, we are participating with our ally Sneaky Bastards on establishing a base on the planetoid Sedna. We are also well aware that other nations have gotten the same idea and are preparing fleets for this purpose.

I would like to make it clear that we are willing to negotiate with other involved nations to share the planetoid, but that we will not accept any nation's claim to the entire 1,800 km in diameter planetoid, as for any one nation to try and claim the right to dole it out at this time is truly absurd, given that no one has any hold on it yet.

Before any serious colonization efforts get underway, I think it would be best for all nations interested to have representatives meet and hammer out some form of agreement. It's cold and dark in deep space, and fighting over such a small planetoid would invariably cause far more trouble than it is worth.

That being said, I propose that anyone interested in laying claim to the planetoid Sedna send representatives to the Arpean city of New Pegasii, so that we might sort out a peaceful agreement long before there be any need for shots to be fired.

Location: New Pegasii Int'l Aerospace Port

Expecting the arrival of various international delegates for the Sedna conference, a fleet of limos, each complete with security detachments, is on standby at the air/space port to receive the incoming dignitaries and take them to the nearby Empress Nekoa hotel, the site of the gathering.

At the hotel, the Shogunate's detachment, consisting of Secretary of Defense Tiffany Celta and Diplomatic Corps lackey Storm Skypeace, keeps busy making certain everything is in order, including the data on the planetoid and a holographic projector. The greying Defense secretary grins ruefully and flops down in one of the posh chairs in the main conference room. "So far, s'good- the dels ought to be due over the next few days, then we all argue and haggle over who gets how much."

"Instead of just dividing it up and then wasting so much resources, wouldn't it be more feasible to try and work out a cooperative effort? It worked for Titan, worked for Mars." Storm brushes some dust from his armor, the reploid looking mildly eager.

"Yare yare, that'd be ideal- a group venture where we all cooperate and help eachother out. Unfortunately, I don't doubt a lotta these guys want to set up shop on Sedna for the same sorts of reasons we do- a good, remote location to test stuff, and a handy little monitoring location for outer system traffic. Queenie thinks that the RPRA territory should be in the vicinity of 400 square kilometers... on a rock 1,800 kilometers in diameter, that's a fairly hefty chunk. The fun part will be negotiating an agreeable division of the loot, not to mention getting everybody involved to agree to some sort of non-agreesion or even mutual defense pact." Tiffany flicks the holo on and studies the fuzzy 3-D image.

"Well, if we're all going to be sharing the rock, it would be in everybody's best interest to defend it against outside attack." Storm notes.

"Well, yeah, kinda goes without saying. The tricky part is in if we can all be good little neighbors to eachother." Tiffany retorts. "Anyhow, all we gotta do is wait for people to fly in and get delivered here. Oughta be fun."

Somewhere over the Shogunate...

Asami Tsukada, the newly hired foreign affairs secretary, stared out the window next to her seat, eyeing the beautiful landscape of the Shogunate below her, watching it zoom by as the plane flew over. Sitting next to her was defense secretary Ayane Kojima, who was looking over some information on Sedna.

"Hey, Asami. Y'might wanna read this over." she said, sliding the file over to the tray table in front of her.

"Already read it." Asami, replied, keeping her focus on the ground below.

"Even the new sensor data that Captain Andrews sent back? That stuff just came in this morning." Ayane replied, giving Asami a somewhat suprised look.

"I had someone get me a copy after it came in. Read it over while I was getting ready. I'm ready for this conference. Don't worry about it." She asked, turning to the defense secretary.

"Just making sure." Ayane replied.

"So were doing this all for a silly little rock on the other side of Pluto?" Asami asked, passing the file back.

"Yeah. Its a nice remote place to set up a monitoring station for outer system traffic and some of the civilian corporations wanna set up some stuff out there." Ayane replied, taking the file and putting it away.

"Cool." Asami said, turning back to the window.

The plane began its approach to New Pegasii Int'l Aerospace Port, contacting the control tower for clearance, preparing to land.

Ah yes... more NSers using a new scientific discovery for a mad dash...

Tiburon refuses a civilian claim on the Planet Sedna (or the Planet Quaoar... or however you spell that thing...) on the basis of common sense. I really hope you guys packed an extra star to keep you guys warm. The place is not advantageous at all. Let's see...

1.) The planet is smaller than Pluto. The entire planet, acording to NASA, is about 800 to 1100 miles in diameter, overshadowed by Pluto's 1400 miles, ranging the same as Quaoar's 800, and paling in comparison to the Moon's enormous 2100 miles.

2.) It's far away. Enough so that you could block all light and heat from the Sun with your thumb. Doesn't make for many warm nights.

3.) The planet's orbit is closest now. Check it out:
http://www.solarviews.com/browse/comet/PIA05569.jpg

See the other edge of that ellipse? It'll be there in another 13 thousand years. Not very strategic.

Sedna Orbit...

To: All nations involved on Sedna, Gore 2004
From: Captain Rachel Andrews, Shinbatsu, Sneaky B Self-Defense Forces

Roughly 15 minutes ago our sensors detected a landing force arriving on Sedna belonging to one of the parties involved. After discussing the situation with our commanders we have been ordered ask that the landing force leave Sedna, return to orbit, and refrain from landing until the conference at New Pegasii has concluded. We also ask that the other parties involved that have forces at Sedna maintain their orbits and refrain from landing any forces on the planetoid.

The negotiations have not even begun and already forces are trying to take land as if they already own it. We believe this action renders the negotiations pointless if groups start taking land without determining how much each party will recieve.

Again, to the forces landing on Sedna: Pull out, return to orbit, and wait for the conference at New Pegasii to conclude.

Once all the delegates are settled in and introduced, Storm steps up to kick things off.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice. I am Diplomatic Corps representative Storm Skypeace, here with Shogunate Defense Secretary Tiffany Celta." The reploid nods to the older woman briefly. "Now, it would be best if we sort out what everyone has in mind for Sedna so that territory can be sorted to best suit everyone."

Tiffany brings up the fuzzy holo of the planetoid. "A'right, guess we'll kick it off. The RPRA's goal in setting up shop on Sedna is largely as a research and development station, as well as a service port for outbound Triumvirate GEC craft. Our techies estimate a plot of land roughly roughly 400 square kilometers should cover our needs for living facilities, research labs, test-firing range, and spaceport facility. The current concept for it is a joint effort of the Shogunate and Sneaky Bastards. Now, given that the Shogunate and Freod are allies via the Triumvirate, it would probably be best if our plots of land were near eachother."

The older woman pauses for a moment. "Eh, but I'm jumpin' ahead here. What do the rest of you want to go to Sedna for? It sure as hell ain't a tropical vacation in a can, y'know!" She grins, sipping from her coffee. "Please excuse our not saying much about our claim on Sedna. Since our claim is a joint one with the Shogunate, their representatives have already covered the details about it, but I'll go over them again briefly. All we're seeking is 400 sq. km. section, which should be enough for a research & development station, service port, living quarters, and spaceport." she said looking around the room at the other reps before sitting back down again.

Major Kojima leaned over and whispered something to Asami, who nodded a couple times and turned back to the group.
