A new continent is discovered (open RP)

A couple of Roman fishermen made an important discovery today, landing at an unknown landmass north of MuchBoards after veering off course.

"We did not expect this find," said Brutus Colonius, an experienced longfisherman who was leading a fishing expedition off the coast of Rome when he discovered the continent. "I told our team, 'let's do a little exploring' as the fish just were not biting, and somehow we bumped into this continent."

Colonius does not expect Roman Emperor Paul XII to grant him governorship of any provice the Romans establish there (as he led this unexpected discovery), but he did say "it would be nice. A governor's life is a lot more luxurious than that of a fisherman."

The Roman government also echoed Colonius' sentiment, as Paul reports that his "office was doing somersaults of joy upon hearing the news."

"It's not every day that you discover a continent," said Paul. "So, naturally, we are excited." Paul hopes that the new colony will "add to Rome's coffers" but hastens to point out that "no Columbian-style politics will be found here. We are not interested in enslaving millions- we would rather work with and help out any indigenous population we find there."

Paul said that he will be sending colonists to the continent soon. In the meantime, he has already named the continent "Vicendum", because, as he says, "it will mark an important victory in Roman discovery".

OOC: I do intend on making Vicendum NS' version of "The Scramble For Africa" (or, at least, another volume of it), at least at some point. Everyone is allowed to participate, but for now, please do not make extensive land claims (i.e., a few ports are allowed, but that's it), start any wars for now and I ask that you RP a discovery of the continent (and have a reason for discovering it), as, outside of RomeW, this continent is unknown.

Once you've "discovered" the continent, re-create your nation and add a "V" to the end of it. After doing this, join the Vicendum region, which I created a while ago to serve this purpose. Three nations I created- RomeW (as RomeV there- I've had that nation for a while, but just assume it's a small but heavily fortified and strong Roman colony for now), BitingReality and the Bactrians- are already in the region but I am going to RP a reason for them to be there tommorow (as it's pretty late tonight). (further edit- there's some other countries I have there as the indigenous population- but I don't want them involved just yet)

Thank you.

Nice idea, might be nice to keep it 100BC - 500AD just to get away from the usual 19th century colonisation thing. If it's OK with you, I would like to place an indigenous Carthage there, just for the fun of it....

OOC: You are allowed to place an indigenous Carthage there- and I encourage it actually. The more who join the better.

I was thinking of this as more an extension of the nations' current histories as opposed to setting it in some different time universe.

Though I might take some elements of that, as I don't like fighting wars with bombs and because I know much more about ancient technology than I do about this one.

The Governance of Joccia V has today equipped a two regiments of Infantry and one squadron of Cavalry of the Joccian Colonial Army, and has mounted an expedition westwards. This expedition is intended to locate natural resourses and to determine whether there is any threat to our colony in this direction.

The Expeditionary Force is under the command of General Sir Thomas (Black Tom) MacPeawhistle, and is supplied for an extended march.

The Plutarch of Carthage sends forth emissaries to all of the Colonial centres, in an effort to extend his claim to the whole continent, and to find out the intentions of the invaders.
