I've had this idea for a while, and I've decided to put it into effect. I've created a region, which, as you may have guessed, is called Earth 1000. It is a closed RP region, meaning we will utilize this forum for our roleplays, but only recognize the existence of nations within our own region. It is entitled Earth 1000 because we will begin our game in the year 1000 AD. Players who wish to participate are required to chose a historical kingdom/duchy/etc. and put 1000 at the end of their nation's title. This is a historical roleplay atmosphere, meaning that you are required to stick to the historical/cultural/technological dynamic of the realm you chose to play. Time will move forward in our game, we offer our players the opportunity to experience the thrill of rewriting world history! For those interested, please post here, or telegram me. For now, we are looking for players to take European realms only. The area of play will expand along with the game. Here's a map of Europe in 1000 AD. I await your replys.

Basil II (life 958-1025; reign 976-1025) was in charge of the Eastern Roman Empire (aka Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire) at this time in history.

Its been done before...I played in it myself. We hosted it in a proboards forum. You could try that, its much easier to understand than just running it in this forum.

Actually, we already have our own forum set up. We'll probably use it more than the NS forums, for obvious reasons.

Was just a suggestion. You could look to see how we have done our RP's, to check what not to do (i.e. fail to mediate disputes).

Might I suggest Saxony 1000? That's because the Holy Roman Empire is a bit of a mess throughout history but Saxony is the 'royal' duchy at this time...

Well, as its supposed to be alternate history, i can pull it back together while maybe giving you some independence :)

Actually as Otto III was working on uniting the Holy Roman Empire. However, his "member" did some thinking for him and he wound up being buried in Achen in 1002. Since I play in what amounts to the Holy Roman Empire reborn on NS (The FKC) it should add some fun to some of the early Rp's to try and maintain the Empire as well as get the Poles and Huns off your back...

And the next in line being an untrustworthy Bavarian. Of course German Kingship was 'elected' by the princes at this time...Oh, hell this is going to be fun...

You could always fight for some independence, lol

Or, maybe I'll take the only Jewish kingdom: The Khazar Kaganate.

Either is fine, but Khazar would be most interesting to play.

Ah, well then we have the small problem of my character being both a saint (Yes, a saint) and having watched his father lose half his Duchy after attempting to size the German Crown....

Rp wise I (Henry the Saint) have my own agenda that isn't anti-Emperial at the moment...I'm going to play nice with my 21 year old cousin. Although perhaps you should call an Imperial Diet... :wink:

Well, we can certainly understand "membership" thinking, since it's gotten Robert II the 'Wise' (aka Robert II the 'Pious') into plenty of trouble. In fact, that's how we ended up sending Otto III our old tutor, Archbishop Gerbert of Reims, with a recommendation that the Emperor bump him into Gregory V's slot when the cranky old coot went paws-up last year.

Hasn't done any good, though, apparently. They still want Robert to dump Bertha.

My guess is that since both Otto III and Robert II were pupils of Gerbert's, they probably know each other, as they are second cousins through Mathilde of Ringleheim.

Very interesting; unfortunatly, I know nothing of european history, so I guess I'm outta luck.

The GM will start admiting people as soon as people start telegraming the GM for the password. Oh, by the way, Hungary should soon be joining.

I will be The Most Serene Republic of Venice. I feel being an economic/naval power is the way to go. How are the sizes of Kingdom/Empire/etc. armies going to be determined? Will you set a flat rate for everyone, or will you give us specific amounts of income in manpower and economy.

All will be determined in the forum. One problem though, Venice wasn't exactly a serene republic in 1000 AD. Oh well, telegram me for the pass, and we'll figure something out.

This site states that Venice has been a republic since the year 727.

At (http://www.boglewood.com/timeline/pirates.html) it states that by the year 992 Venice had gained control of the coast of Dalmatia, making it fairly safe in its area.
