"Early this afternoon the Self-Defense Force, partnered with several civilian contractors, started the assembly of a new orbital space fortress in Earth orbit above the nation that will be home to the headquarters of the Self-Defense Force Space Fleet. Civilian assembly teams, with assistance from the nearby 1st and 3rd Defensive Fleets, pieced together the first sections of what will eventually be the central core of the massive fortess. Officials are unsure of exactly how long it will take to complete the fortress but hope for it to be done sometime within the next six years if everything goes smoothly, possibly sooner.
As we stated earlier, the new fortress will be home to the headquarters of the SDF Space Fleet, which is currently based planetside. The fortress will also act as a repair and resupply station for the space fleets and many civilian transports making trips between the planet and space colonies. It will house eight dry docks to be used for repairing and maintaining up to four ships per dry dock. Artificial gravity will be provided within the docks. The station will also have four massive external docking columns on the outer ring which will be able to dock up to twelve ships each at one time.
Officials from the Department of Defense refused to release any more details on the fortess for security reasons. Resources from the mining of the asteroid "Seijoutai Island" will be used in construction, as well as resources from the asteroid "Second Luna", which is due to be in Earth orbit in one week with the return of the 1st Asteroid Recovery Fleet. The minerals and ores harvested from the asteroids will help ease the strain on the nation's planetary resources."
