A young woman in her 30s came onto the television screen. Almond shaped sapphire blue eyes with straight and beautiful brown hair along with an oval face and perfect nose were shown. "Good evening, I'm Zofia Telaski. As you know, elections are being held over the next week to determine new seats in Getczechen, in which 100 of the 200 members face reelection or loss. The election is expected to be particularly tense in northern regions of the country, after feelings of being ignored have been expressed.

"Some international influence will occur, but Lietuvs will only use the international community's opinion as a basis for making their own opinion. Let's go to Martin Kasgoord for more. Martin?"

A tall man came on the screen, standing in front of a large flatscreen television monitor with the Lietuv flag on the background and the words "Election '04!" brandished across it. There were five icons underneath the logo, each one belonging to a particular party.

"Thank you, Zofia. The elections taking place over the next week will determine power shifts in Lietuv policy. The Lietuv Conservative Party has experienced increased popularity throughout the USSL, after it moderated several positions. The Maata Environmental Front has all but collapsed, making more room for oppurtunity for other parties. As most of you may know, the Social Progressives still hold a majority of seats, with 104 of the seats." He immediately touched the icon for the Social Progressives, which was farthest to the left. Immediately a brief description, as well as information on the party's leader, motto, and ultimate goal were displayed on the large monitor. "The Social Progressives have an ultimate goal of making Lietuveska very powerful in affairs involving socialist and socialistic nations. The SPs have been known to have silence on issues such as taxes and private enterprise. The Lietuv Conservative Party has recently taken advantage of this silence, and cut the tax rate nearly 32% in the past few months. The Social Progressives make civil rights and political freedoms their largest concerns. Party Chairman, Gregory Jundaus, cousin of the Vice President, has said that he is dedicated to making Lietuveska the 'freest nation in the world.' Recent attempts to quell domestic terrorism have been under attack by the Social Progressives, saying that it will only provoke opposition. Many political analysts have seen the SPs as distancing themselves from average Lietuvs."

He then went back to the main screen, and hit the Lietuv Conservative Party icon. It also had a brief description and other information. "The LCP has been experiencing rising popularity in the past few years, as they support tax cuts and a slightly bigger defense budget. It is mostly the responsibility of the LCP that President Weston ordered a press release regarding terrorism, and compiled an informative list of domestic terrorist organizations. However, the LCP wishes to let Lietuvs know that it is socially moderate, supporting limited abortion and euthanasia. They favor private enterprise, though feel that slow transition is needed. The LCP holds 46 of the seats in Getczechen, and is allied with the Independent Party to form the Independent-Conservative Coalition, which together forms the second-largest party of the Getczechen. The LCP is very optimistic that it will experience good results, and hopes that it may rise to contain a majority of Getczhechen seats. Political analysts say the results are 'likely.' Party Chairwoman Lashira Vladonski has expressed her utmost excitement at the LCP's increasing popularity."

He then turned and went back to the main screen, this time touching the Labour Democrats icon. "The Labour Democrats have been keeping a rather moderate and uknown position on many things for the past several years. They have constantly refused to ally with the Social Progressives, despite the power that could result from such a coalition. It is expected that the LDs, who hold only 24 seats of the Getczechen, will lose most of their seats in the coming week, due to lack of funds, momentum, and advertising. The Labour Democrats Party Chairman, Bjorn Voorla, has expressed no comment to the LNA."

He then went back to the main screen yet again, and hit the Maata Environmental Front icon. Turning back to the camera, trying to keep a somewhat straight face, Martin began his report on the MEF. "The Maata Environmental Front was established 12 years ago before Lietuv independence, originally as an organization protesting Russian occupation and to encourage all Lietuvs to be passionate about enhancing the Earth's natural beauty. Over the years, the MEF has lost momentum, mostly due to suspicions of links to the Anarchist Liberation Front, a domestic terrorist organization. Two seats are taken by the MEF, which are expected to be lost. This collapse of the party's presence in the Getczechen will likely result in the collapse of the entire party. The two gotens representing the MEF have issued no comment."

For the final time, he turned back to the screen, and touched the Independent Party icon. Looking at the camera, he spoke with formality not heard since his talking of the LCP. "The Independent Party, while small, has allied itself with the LCP. Alone, the IP is only 24 seats strong. However, the I-C Coalition gives the two parties a total of 70 seats, making them the second-largest. The Independent Party is largely conservative, but wishes to have limited immigration and wants the government to keep most control of business. Most Lietuvs do not connect themselves with the Independent Party, and it is expected to lose most of its seats when the results of the elections are announced next week. The IP Chairman has issued no statement."

"The Lietuv News Agency encourages Lietuvs to take the initiave to vote, and also encourage the international community to do the same. It is very important that the USSL propel itself into the future. This election is a small example of that hurtle."

Tree questions are forwarded by a journalist from the newspaper Trouw to the parties.

-"What are is your parties stance on participation in UnAPS?"
-"How does your party think relations with the non-socialist world should develop?"
-"How does your party stand on free trade?"

As requested by Knootian reporters, each party has filed an official statement answering all three questions provided to them.

Social Progressives
Written by: Chairman Jundaus
The Social Progressives Union of the USSL stands firm in our belief that Lietuveska should avoid all alliances. Alliances only pave way for war and destruction, and do not create true diplomatic relations that are necessary to survive in the modern world. I, as well as other Social Progressives, believe that the President has made a major mistake in applying for membership of UnAPS, and if the SPU keeps its strong majority, we will work towards lessening the damage of joining such an alliance by becoming inactive in it.
Lietuveska should not make much contact with the non-socialist world, which is why the SPU has been largely against further diplomatic relations with Knootoss and several others.
Free trade is unfair trade. It exports Lietuv jobs elsewhere, and we are very grateful that the Weston Administration has kept a limited free trade policy, though we would rather see it abolished completely.

Lietuv Conservative Party
Written by: Chairwoman Vladonski
The UnAPS is an excellent organization that stands for the truth of peace and democracy. The LCP is thrilled at the membership in this stunningly fascinating party, and we hope to further relations across the board to all of our new allies. The LCP was actually the driving force behind the application, and could be seen as our biggest victory in history, besides the large tax cuts that we have passed that enable millions of Lietuv families to live more independently.
Of course the LCP believes that we should promote relations across the board. The only requirement we usually contain for diplomatic contact is the love for peace, justice, and freedom. To us, it does not matter what economic policy a nation adopts. However, the LCP would admittedly like to see Lietuveska slowly turn to a capitalist economy. Our current economic policy is too restricting for the average Lietuv, and I sincerely hope our party may change that.
We embrace free trade, though we are very vigilant. The LCP does not like to blindly accept free trade agreements, though most of them help us rather than hurt us because of our lesser economic state. The LCP's hard work has paid off, after the economy stagnated at "Thriving" for nearly 6 months, we have finally enabled it to rise to "Powerhouse."

--We support the President's actions, and we encourage the President to do what he feels is right.
--Lietuveska should strive to enact in diplomacy where the event may arise. Of course there are exceptions.
--Trade has never been free. One must always give away to gain.

It is the feeling of the Social Progressives Union of Lietuveska that all sentient and sapient beings that fill the speech and thought requirements of humans deserve equal rights.

Lietuv Conservative Party
Written by: Chairman Vladonski
The LCP believes that all sentient beings deserve the same rights as humans. We have long stood by that position, unlike several other parties, who seem to switch when the time is opportune.

Several questions are forwarded by the journalists from Gansonape TV Network - a new and growing private Omzian satellite news network corporation that rivals the state-owned Tonanbo News Agency, for its report on the elections in Lietuveska:

--"What are each party' stance on defence spendings and the military?"
--"What are each party' stance on education spendings?"
--"What are each party' stance on relations with Omzian Democratic Federal Republic?"

And a special question for members of the Maata Environmental Front by a janitor named Norma, who works at the headquarters:

--"Did MEF members ever went to junior high or senior high school? How do they feel regarding the fact that they cannot spell their country's name correctly?"

Social Progressives
Written by: Chairman Jundaus
The Social Progressives Union of Lietuveska is strongly against high defense spending. The military should be small and effecient; never deployed overseas. We are a nation of peace and little military history. The SPU would like to keep it that way.

Education is highly important in the development of young and old Lietuvs. Education is ranked highest on the priority list of the SPU. Long have we been dedicated to providing free and fair education for all Lietuvs to ensure a new generation of educated, smart human beings.

The Omzian Democratic Republic remains largely unknown to us. However, we have researched the past, and we see that Omz has taken a more peaceful road recently. However, we feel that the military policies of Omz are far too conservative.

The SPU feels strongly about environmental protection. At any cost, the environment must be protected. This is why the SPU is against private enterprise. It would encourage greedy corporations to suck the air out of the Earth to increase their own gain.

Lietuv Conservative Party
Written by: Chairman Vladonski
The LCP supports a strong defense budget and military. While we feel that both budgets should not exceed 10% of the entire budget, we feel that our military is necessary for defense. The LCP supports international peace missions, and has largely considered proposing legislation to create a branch of the military that would only engage in peace-keeping operations. To use military offensively is an offense in itself. The LCP has never supported unecessary war.

Education is the most important substance of Lietuv life. I wholeheartedly agree with Chairman Jundaus on this issue, as it is not one that should be driven by politics. Education is an issue that should be driven by compassion for the individual to learn about his or her world.

The LCP looks kindly upon the Omzian Democratic Federal Republic, as it seems to share similar goals. However, we need to know more about the history, culture, and values of Omz. We hope that this knowledge may be achieved through Minister of Foreign Affairs Nathan Korvana's visit.

The Lietuv Conservative Party supports environmental protection, as well as strict rules regarding pollution. However, we understand that for a business to operate, it must make a profit. The SPU's restrictions are too tight to allow capitalism, which is why we suspect they support neck-choking restrictions.

Labour Democrats
Written by: Chairman Voorla
--It is important to defend our nation in times of trouble.
--Education is of high importance to Labour Democrats.
--We are cordially neutral, though we seek more information.
--The environment is a treasure to Labour Democrats.

Lietuv Conservative Party Wins Elections
7:50 PM CST, MAR. 25, 2004
HVITTSTED (Mar. 25) -- Today the final results of the 2004 Getczechen Elections were displayed across the nation, not surprising many with the high victory of the Lietuv Conservative Party. The election results of the Lietuv population were close to the international community's opinion:

Lietuv Conservative Party: 96 seats of 200 (gain of 50 seats)
Socialist Progressives Union: 79 seats of 200 (loss of 25 seats)
Labour Democrats: 10 seats of 200 (loss of 14 seats)
Independent Party: 15 seats of 200 (loss of 9 seats)
Maata Environmental Front: 0 seats of 200 (loss of 2 seats)

The only party to make any gains whatsoever was the LCP. The LCP-Independent Coalition now creates a total of 111 seats on the side of the LCP in the Getczechen.

The SPU and Labour Democrats lost heavily, and are now facing the serious consequences of political defeat. No comment has been offered by either party.

The MEF has collapsed completely, ending a 15-year presence in the Getczechen. Many political analysts were not surprised by this turn of events, but were notably surprised that the Independent Party still has a footing. Many political analysts assumed that voters would vote for LCP candidates instead, but that largely turned out to not be the case.

The LCP has announced that its first step will be to change the national name. Names are now being presented to a panel in the party, and they will soon choose several names and hold an international poll. Then a vote will be held at home to determine the new national name for Lietuveska.

The President has staunchly opposed this move, crediting it as a way to destroy the history of Lietuveska.

Also on the agenda of the LCP is changing the national government to a parliamentary government instead of the current federal one. This has been met with support by most Lietuvs, as a recent LNA poll found that 78% of Lietuvs supported the idea of a parliamentary government. If such a change occurred, the President would be forced to leave office, while being able to run for Prime Minister at a later date. The LCP has proposed that Lietuveska follow the Knootian model, having all Getczechen elections in the same week to easily determine new party power changes. The LCP has said that it intends to keep the Getczechen unicameral, though has suggested an increase in the number of members to 500.

It is unlikely that the President would ever pass such a bill, but the LCP has considered intense political pressure and guarantees of a political office if he agrees to pass the bill.

I must thank the Knootian government for their congratulations on our excellent victory. I have been hoping for some time that Lietuveska would experience the change it really needs. I have long campaigned for many things, and the Lietuv people have decided those things important.

For a very long time I have been thinking about changing our nation. Lietuveska is in need for radical changes. The current system offers too much power to too little people, and was only good for the transition from Soviet-occupied to democracy. I fully believe that we must change our government to roughly follow the Knootian model. I look upon the Knootian model of government organization with great admiration. I must say that if the Weston Administration has done one thing good, it is securing our friendship with Knootoss.

Perhaps the Prime Minister would be too busy to schedule a meeting sometime? I would be very interested in talking, perhaps before the LCP attempts to pass legislation to change our government. I fully understand if the Prime Minister is not available, as it is a hard job to rule such a powerful and prestigious country.

With hopes of speaking to you as Prime Minister of my nation soon, I leave with great confidence and hope for a new beginning in Lietuveska-Knootoss relations.

Signed,
Lashira Vladonski
Chairwoman of the Lietuv Conservative Party

The reply was given quickly, and publicly.

On behalf of the Knootian people I can truly say that we wish that the results of these elections will bring hope stability and prosperity to the Lietuv government and its people

As friends and allies, we give our full support for constructive change and reform of the Republic. Dispatching experts, hosting seminars and a political exchange programme are all possibilities we would love to explore. We are honoured to be seen as an example and qwe hope to be able to live up to expectations. We are also honoured by your kind words.

We, the government, would welcome to explore relations insofar they have not already been formalised under the Weston administration. A meeting between us, or representatives from your party and or government can certainly be arranged at the first time that is mutually convenient.* I look forward to meeting you in person.

It is good to have friends,

~Prime Minister Galadriël Táralóm nos Cirdan
Fluidic-time Prime Minister of the Dutch Democratic Republic of Knootoss
