Founding and Early History
The Principality was born in the chaos of the South Pacific in 2094 A.E. A young activist realized that due to the rampant political freedoms in his home nation, he would forever be competing with every Joe and Jane who could get enough money together to purchase a campaign poster. Together with five million other discontented humans, the future Grand Prince acquired a large civilian transport and set out for the New Aranamor controlled Nuavala sector and was quickly accepted into the New Aranamor Alliance.

Location
The Nuavala System lies somewhere between 15 and 17 light-years from the Sol system, an exact position being unavailable due to damage to the navigational computer in flight.

Core Skeelzanian Worlds Include:

Solomon: The Administrative capital of Skeelzania, it also houses much of the nation’s population. All of the major corporations have headquarters planet side.

Gideon Station: While not technically a planet, Gideon Station serves are the most prestigious military academy in Skeelzanian space, primarily because it is the only military academy in Skeelzanian space. Orbiting high above Solomon, it also acts as a sort of guard to the various shipyards that it shares orbit.

Azuk II: Home to Skeelzania’s uranium industry, Azuk II is a barren world where the only habitat available is under the massive domes erected soon after planet-fall. It is also rumored that much of the Principality’s military research takes place here.

Government
Being a Principality, the head of the government is the current head of the Skeelzot family. He has the final say in every issue and is the sole dictator of foreign policy and commander of the nation’s military forces.

However, the Grand Prince does not rule as a complete dictator. The retainers and minor nobles of the Principality wield some influence in the country, as many of them are leaders of the powerful corporations. The Ziad- the Skeelzania equivalent to a House of Lords- often brings domestic issues before the Grand Prince and occasionally clashes on foreign policy issues of paramount importance. The most recent example of this was the Treaty of Aranamor, between the New Aranamor Alliance and the alien power of Xanthal. Strong nationalistic factions within the Ziad halted Skeelzania’s full acceptance of the treaty for several days, with the Grand Prince finally ordering the Principality’s fleet to target the Ziad in an effort to stop the clamoring. The nobles backed down and Skeelzania accepted the treaty.

Charter of the Principality
-The only lawful head of government is the Grand Prince and head of the Skeelzot Family.

-Elections are illegal unless specifically ordered by the Grand Prince. Domestic issues can be brought before the Ziad for hearing, but foreign policy is strictly in the realms of the Grand Prince and the Ziad.

-All citizens must serve at least two consecutive years of military service, unless officially designated for other duties by the Grand Prince himself.

-Any and all citizens between the ages of 18 and 45 may be called up for military service by order of the Grand Prince for however long the Prince dictates.

-English is the Official Language of the Principality. Those applying for citizenship must learn at least rudimentary English before acceptance as full citizens.

-The State Religion is the Religion of the Grand Prince. Those applying for citizenship must agree to respect the Prince’s religion (or lack thereof).

-Cloned humans may only be created by government order or with the government’s permission. All clones are considered property of their creator. Attackers of government-owned clones will be put to death.

Citizenship
Citizens in the Principality are entitled to numerous benefits. Firstly, only citizens are eligible for free health care. Non-citizens will receive emergency health care with the exception of self-inflicted wounds and organ donations. Secondly, only Citizens may operate businesses within the Principality. Non-citizens may be employed by Citizens and/or do business in the Principality with a Citizen acting as middleman.

To become a Citizen, one must meet the following requirements:
1) Swear an Oath of Loyalty to the Principality
2) Swear to respect the Religion of the Principality
3) Have a rudimentary command of the English Language
4) Be of the human species

People and Culture
85% of the Principality’s population is Human, with the remaining 15% being made up of various other species including Elves, dwarves, and stout gnome-like expatriates from Bandalok. The country is dominated by the Humans, who wield all political and military authority.

75% of the total population claims to practice no religious faith, mostly due to the staunch anti-religious stance taken by the government. The remaining 25% of the total population follow a motley collection of faiths, both alien and old world, along with some home-grown cults that are generally dedicated to various members of the ruling family. There are rumors that the Fürstentum Schützt have a secret religion, but these are unsubstantiated.

The country’s unofficial national anthem is the Marche Slave. Although wordless, it is nonetheless popular at rallies and other events.

Economy
The Skeelzanian economy is ruled by the substantial private sector, although the government is always ready to yank on its leash if they believe things are getting out of hand. The tax rate fluctuates anywhere between zero and 16%, with most of the nation’s revenue coming from the massive gambling industry. Skeelzania also has a small uranium mining industry, though this has shrunk in recent years. Many businesses are also government-controlled, including the food and energy industries.

The official currency is the Baskz, which in the entire history of the Principality is believed to have never been properly pronounced. General use has rendered the “z” silent.

Binding Agreements
Skeelzania is a member of the New Aranamor Alliance charter and the New Aranamor Free Trade Agreement. It is also begrudgingly adheres to the New Aranamor-Xanthal Pact (known as the Alliance of Aranamor in other nations).



Significant Events

2094: The Principality is founded, and soon departs for New Aranamor.

2095: Ultra-right wing Nazi Party members, former supporters of the Grand Prince, stage a rally to protest new civil right advances instituted by the government. The Grand Prince orders the military to surround the stadium where the rally is being held and slaughters every man, woman, and child. 26,000 people are liquidated.

2097: The first of the Principality’s Draco Cruisers is launched; a new one is completed every standard year.

2098: NAA-Xanthal Alliance is signed, despite unrest in the Ziad.

2100: Skeelzania begins to supplement its citizen army with clone soldiers classified as Organically Reengineered Constructs (O.R.C.s).

2108: Incorporated States of New Xanthal deports its lower class workers to their own continent despite intergalactic protest. Skeelzania supports the move, being in favor of every nation's right to rule as they see fit.

2109: Skeelzania adopts a new flag. Battle of Relafia IV takes place over New Xanthal policies.

Organically Reengineered Construct (O.R.C.):

In 2099, the Skeelzanian Ziad addressed an issue of paramount importance to the Principality’s military future. Since its founding the country has required military service from all its citizens. However, they were only obligated to two years of service and after fulfilling their duties many entered the private sector. The few that stayed were often officers and part of the service corps. This was creating a severe shortage in basic combat troops. As a stopgap solution, the Ziad authorized the purchase of 20,000 clone troopers from the CorpSac Empire by the Ministry of Defense. But the country still desired a home grown force to combat any potential enemies.

The solution to this problem surfaced in 2100, enabling genetic researchers within the Principality refined the cloning process to that where a human being to be successfully cloned. However, cloning was still in its early stages and the clones often came out deformed, mentally stunted and prone to psychotic episodes. However, as the process advanced, scientists were better able to control the clone’s physical growth and even speed it up substantially. But when they attempted to alleviate the clones’ mental problems, the military stepped in. Ianos Skeelzot, Minister of Defense, recognized the worth of a cheap supply of fresh troops that cloning presented. Like many Skeelzanian’s, he distrusted outsiders and resented buying troops from another nation. Thus, he ordered the scientists to create a super soldier.

Standing 7 feet high, possessing nearly 1.5 times the muscle mass of a normal human and bursting with endurance, the Organically Reengineered Construct, or O.R.C. were impressive, but what made them truly fearsome was the mind housed in their mildly deformed heads. The cloners had not pacified the psyche of the O.R.C.s; in fact they actually increased their aggressive tendencies and viciousness. A fully enraged O.R.C. could shatter a man’s breastbone with a single blow, and rip a forearm off at the elbow. During initial trials, it was not uncommon to watch the O.R.C. tear a limb off one of his opponents (typically political prisoners) and then beat them to death with it. This inhuman rage coupled with their advanced Grendel MK I Power Armor and weapons such as the Flak Gun and the 50 caliber Skeelzanian Assault Rifle (SAR) make them virtually unstoppable in close quarters combat.

Fürstentum Schützt Files

The Fürstentum Schützt are the elite soldiers of the Principality. They form the guard of the Grand Prince and his family, and also act as a paramilitary force at home and abroad. Unlike most the Skeelzania’s grunt forces, the FS are composed entirely of citizens.

The Principality Mobile Suit Corps is entirely composed of members of the FS, or the Principality Guard. These elite troops are fanatical supporters of the Grand Prince who embody the Skeelzanian spirit of militaristic attitude, respect of technology, and disdain for religion and other species. The FS also operates some of the more advanced ships, including the Typhon battleships.

As of 2112, the FS could field 3 infantry divisions (30,000 men) and boasted 2,000 in their Naval and Mobile Suit wing. Their Organizational Anthem is the Glagolitic Mass: Intrada.

Warships of the Principality

Draco class Cruisers:

Cruisers form the bulk of the Skeelzanian navy. The strongest of these ships are of the Draco class. While classified as cruisers within the Principality, they are comparable to corvettes of the larger space empires. They were contract built at the CorpSac shipyards in O.E. 2097 and delivered to the Principality the same year. Designed as the long range stand-off fighters, they are unusually fast and possess formidable long range armaments. In addition, each ship has torpedo batteries and anti-fighter defenses. Each ship also carries a sizable marine contingent that it can deploy onto a planetary surface if needed, thanks to a ramp at the rear of its armored bow-compartment.

Unlike the Draco ships, which were foreign built, the Wyrm class of light cruisers were entirely home built. The first was launched from the Solomon shipyards in O.E. 2098 as part of the Principality’s ambitious construction program for their navy. They lack the sophisticated weaponry and armor of the Dracos, instead being outfitted with homegrown systems. They also lack the torpedo and defense turrets battery possesed by the Draco ships. They are slightly slower, but their Jump drives are just as effective. Since O.E. 2098 a new one has been constructed every standard year, and plans are in the works to double and even triple productivity.

Ships of the Line: Wyrms are not given official names, other than a designation number. However their crews often grant them monikers which can vary wildly from ship to ship. St. Michael and La Chienne (a notoriously uncooperative ship) are two prime examples.

Typhon Class Battleship

The Typhon is currently the largest, heaviest ship in the Skeelzanian fleet. The plans were drawn up shortly after the Battle of Relafia IV, in which Skeelzania participated. Designed with the threat of slipfighters in mind, the Typhon carries the heaviest anti-fighter armament of any Principality warship to date. Also, unlike the early model Dracos, the Typhon has Mobile Suit capabilities built into the design, including launch catapults, service bays, and recharge stations. While the distinctive “tower bridge” has been maintained, a hardened Combat Command Center has been constructed within the bowels of the ship, reducing the threat of the entire command being wiped out with a single shot.

Skeelzanian Mobile Suits

The Drow was the first Mobile Suit produced in Skeelzania, designed after the Battle of Relafia IV. The Skeelzanians believe psychological intimidation is an important part of warfare, so some effort was put in to make the design menacing, yet functional. Skeelzanian scientists never understood why some cultures insisted on bright, distinctive mobile suits, thus the Drow was given an overall dark paint scheme to help it blend into its outer space surroundings.
