TO: Warlord Alkanphel, Greatest Servant of Emperor Morgoth
FROM: Duke Simon Darquis, Roanian Minister for Foriegn Affairs and Trade
RE: Restoration of Diplomatic Ties

Blessings be upon you, and upon your master.

It has been decided, in a unanimous vote by both the High Council and the House of Nobles, that we have no more reason to be in a state of hostility towards you than we have cause to any number of other nations. Thus, we hereby withdraw from any stance of aggression we may have entered against you in the past, and make a request.

We desire to once more have diplomatic contact with your nation, and hope that you will forgive any hostility that our previous alliances may have called for from us. Since we are about to officially withdraw from the Protectorate treaty with Menelmacar, the council no longer sees any reason for our two nations to be hostile to one another, and I remain assured you feel likewise.

Let us state, though, that we will not stand idly by and allow your military to kill elves for no more reason than the fact that they are elves. On the other hand, accept our offer, and we will no longer aid those elves which we judge capable of defending themselves. Also, we will under no circumstances, and here I reiterate a previous communication, aid any elves in any attack, upon your land or upon your allies, save when all the world calls for it.

If our assurances are unnaceptable, then we regret that. We hope to be able to announce an exchange of ambassadors within the month.

May you grow strong,

Simon Darquis
Duke of Derricks

To: The Administrators of the Nation of Roania, One and All
From: High Warlord Alkanphel Ancalagon, Personal Counsel to Lord Melkor and Acting First Marshal of the Imperial Armed Forces

You're off to a bad start. Naming Lord Melkor in the fashion of the elves is not befitting of a would-be ally. However, it's a minor greivance.

I'm not sure at this moment exactly what it is you seek but at the very least an ambassador exchange would be an excellent idea. We have lots of embassy space available in the Haradrim city of Ali'Staan. No sense in having your ambassadors go mad in the Shadow of Thangorodrim, now is there?

OOC: Ooh. I was under the impression that Morgoth was his original name.

Bad Roania! Bad!

IC:

"I do believe he is trying to impress us, M'lady. With that title, and all." Simon Darquis said, cautiously.

"That was still a rather ridiculous error." Malissa replied, rolling her eyes at the folly of her own advisors. "Still, let's see if my own title will even the odds, if you must insist."

My most sincere apologies for that error, Lord Alkanphel. It seems that one's ministers have suffered from ingrained habitude, something which one will need to deal with. Kindly inform your master that no insult was intended.

What we intend is what we Roanians have always intended, to maintain order and sensibility. At this time, it seems that the Imperium and its allies are working more for that goal then our so-called masters, the elves. Perhaps we also intend to demonstrate to the elves that we *were* independent allies, and thus deserving of reward for our work.

Records show that in the time of my Grandfather, Edward Peacemaker, we had an embassy in your nation. We are unaware of where it was based, but we are sure that that building isn't currently occupied. If it is, then where-ever you care to put our ambassador will be fine.

<end transmission>

"Remind me again why 'I' had to write it? What do I have a Prime Minister for?" The teenage Princess asked, sulkily. "It's absurd."

"It is your duty as Head of State to send out requests for alliances, and make second diplomatic contact. After you've done that, then the PM takes over for you. It's... um... precedent, and honors the recipient."

"Then why doesn't Morgoth himself send a transmission?"

"Because, from records, he's too large to use a keyboard, and pencils tend to crumble to dust in his hands."

"That building's been gone for years. We dont keep much of anything topside anymore, except for Ali'Staan, which is the most likely place of residence for any of your diplomatic corps. We don't often turn people down who want Embassies, so your political situation with Menelmacar is irrelevant in that regard. But I imagine we'll have much to discuss once your man gets here, no?"

Thelas

High in space, a Thelasi satilite intercepted several messages from Roania to the Impirium of Morgoth. The satellite changed course to get a better intercept. Then, it relayed the message to a Thelasi Destroyer. The message went through a preliminary decoding, at that point, the names were revealed…. This could be just a simple trade agreement or so forth, but with Roania’s history…. This warrants investigation.

The messages were tabbed as ‘black level one’ and then encoded by a Thelasi means and transmitted back to Thelas for decoding.

Weeks Later

A scientist was sitting at his computer screen when the ‘decoding finished’ message popped up. As was his policy, he looked at the messages before transmitting them to the folks at Thelas Military Intelligence.

Seconds later, a crash resounded through out the hall as his coffee mug dropped to the floor, a second after that, he picked up his phone, and called Empress Ithenril, even though she was in Aelosia at this time, “I am transmitting something to you, the Aelosians should take a look at this…

OOC: Okay, if any of you have problems with this JUST TELL ME, the reason this got decoded quickly is because Thelas is operating a massive network of computers solely for cracking codes, called Palantir

EDIT: Cut and Paste error

I dont have a problem with you intercepting the messages for RP purposes, but its a little hasty to jump 'weeks ahead' under these circumstances. I mean, it's possible that by the time three weeks pass in-game, that everyone will know anyway. Roania said he's planning on withdrawing from that Protectorate treaty or whatever, so I think when that happens it should be pretty obvious.

But whatever. If Roania's cool with it I don't care :P

OOC: I actually have a fairly big problem with you telling anyone anything, for the fact that Menelmacar is ignoring you (as far as I know), and if you tell anyone they'll tell her, and it all makes for fairly shaky ground.

Also, I'd be incredibly impressed if you could pick out my message from the garbage that's been shot out with it (the 'snowballing').

Still, get Siri to tell me you're un-ignored, and I'll make a decision. If Melkor has no problem with it, than I'm okay. As he said, I'm leaving the treaty just as soon as I find a way to make the title catchy enough Siri will post out of interest. She knows I'm planning to, and I'm not turning traitor... I'm just making myself officially neutral. Neutrally aligned on Melkor's side... unless the elven powers deliver unto me their firstborn sons! Or a large supply of gold bullion, cash, and a silmaril.

We have no problems with that. Upon my ambassador's arrival, he will be carrying a most important document which I would hope you would show to your Emperor.

The Thelasi weren't the only ones who had an interest in monitoring Roanian messages, and the 'Vagrant' system of sensors, reporting to the Senior Directorate of Militarty Affairs, and the Senatorial Permanant Committee for Legislation and Management. When it completed its decryption - something that would probably take time, days even, it would report to its masters. As it was, the vagrant sensor directed at Roania - many nations, Thelas, Aelosia, Taurenor, most of Arda and Yut, Menelmacar in particular, had the dubious pleasure of having the artificially intelligent sensors constantly trying to read their mail, and Roania was among these - idly wondered just why they would be sending messages to Melkor anyway, it seemed, strange.

The Resi Corporation
24-03-2004, 05:59
It is said that one must know their enemy to have the upper hand against their enemy, and that was exactly what the Resi Corporation was thinking months ago after Roania began island-hoping towards them. The administration had set the eye of the Resi Corporation upon Roania, meaning that the nation was under the surveilance of Resian GlobeSAT and incoming and outgoing messages from all centers of government were being monitored with a close and steady eye. After months of sifting through nothing but govenrment cafeteria menus and reports on the breeding activities of Dire Wolves, Resian A.I.'s stumbled upon a rather heavily encoded piece of data heading outward from the Princess (or is it Empress?) herself. The destination, as they soon found out, was Arda.

Knowing even before decoding it that no one would be foolish enough to make a threat of any kind to Lord Melkor, the A.I.'s then knew that the message must be a token of friendship, whether a trade agreement or a hard-core alliance they could not tell until they labored on encryption. Nevertheless, the fact that a transmission was made was sent along to Dae Narasagi, the stand-in CEO for while Jai Resi, the real CEO, had his little vacations that never really seemed to end. She was then confronted with a choice, to pass the information along to the elves (we don't know they have it already) and thus sever all ties with Melkor, or to wait until better informed once the encryption was decyphered. She chose to wait for the unencryption, as the information would be more useful to the elves unencrypted anyway. Once the info was unencrypted, she might even be able to approach Lord Melkor with help, should there be indications of the treachery of Roania in the message that he could not see.
