Elections in Your Country

13-03-2004, 05:42
This week is World Wide Election Week! Yippe!
So tell us about who won the elections in your party. Have fun with it--make up names, political parties, houses of legislature, and be sure to give percentages. If you want you can give history, descriptions and run wild with your canadates, political parties, and/or houses of legislature. :)
---
Houses of Legislature :
The High Senate's representatives are voted on nationally. The percentage of voting a party gets, the amount of the house they hold. The House of the Common is like the U.S. Senate, canidates are voted on by region and elected that way. The Autonomous Houses are the legislative bodies for DunePrimes 3 autonomous regions (Fremen Sietches, Northern Communes, and Mongtipal).

Political Parties

The Democratic Socialists Union is DunePrime's liberal party, much like the American Democratic party. The Dune Communist Party is, duh, the Communist Party; they, in fact, are the ruling body of the Northern Communes. The Dune Whites Party are the Monarchists who wish to see the Emperor of Dune retake either a consitutionalized throne or absolute power--the party is devived. One more interesting party is the Mongtipal Nationalist, who hold the majority in Mongtipal. They wish to see Mongtipal gain its independence from DunePrime... nothing a little bombing won't fix... but we don't need to fall to such, um, "obvious" methods, now do we?

Elections are a silly liberalist practice and waste the taxpayers money that could be spent on more important things, like adding a new wing to my Harem.

As it has been for the six centuries since the glorious God Emperor sequestered himself within his Tower, Isidon has been governed by a council of four Priest-Regents, who hold their offices for life, and appointed their own successors.

Elections are an archaic and ultimately unreliable system, which places the rule of a nation in the hands of its naive, and often misguided lower castes.
Grand Hobgoblonia

Elections have been illegal in Grand Hobgoblonia since the ascension of the Holy Imperial Monarch and the sovreignty of Grand Hobgoblonia was defined (about an hour ago.) The nation runs much more smoothly this way, there's no need to be redefining castes and causing trouble all the time.

I highly recommend making elections illegal everywhere, then people could concentrate on things of greater importance, eg, like getting to know their favorite caste authority, or commerce.

Elections??? why havea popularity contest to "elect" the best man for the job when you could have an exam! or perhaps more efficiently a civil servant/administration class! oh how much better the world would be run in such a manner, much like ming/qing dynasty china, which lasted until the british and everyone else conquered them and made them smoke opium lol. but well that answers it tannelorn does not have elections.

The Prime Minister is elected by the nobles from their own number, and takes over as soon as the Prince(ss) accepts his oath of loyalty (under the current ruler, a mere formality). The PM then selects his ministers from a list provided for him by his aides and the bureacracy.
RomeW

Well, elections in Rome (OOC: "RomeW" is to stand for "Rome West") are not for another two months, but already there are two main competitors for the title of Emperor:

1. Paul XII (Incumbent)- He has been the Roman Empire for the past twelve years, gaining the throne at the tender age of 22. Now 34, his rather extensive political resume includes the granting of political autonomy to Rome's provinces, a great record as a peacekeeper, the one who initiated Rome's space program and recently a reformer of Roman electoral policies. However, he has been notorious for tax hikes, and, in recent months, narrowly escaped war in the Eredron-Joccia incident and his handling of the BitingReality situation, where he was forced into recognizing BitingReality independence, leave a stain on his record.

2. Rodin Hartian- Hartian is one of Rome's leading businessmen and lawyers, and has been active in Roman politics. A fervent opponent of just about everything Paul has ever done, he advocates spending freezes and the search for new revenues to bolster Rome's coffers. He is still a staunch supporter of democracy, of continuing Paul's space program and of Rome's socially progressive stance, but he would like to see better management of Roman political affairs and, as he says, "smarter diplomacy". However, most of his political work comes from the outside looking in, organizing rallies and protests and does not have much administrative experience.
Pantocratoria
13-03-2004, 07:47
Elections for the Imperial Parliament were scheduled for this weekend, but given the current crisis in the capital and the subsequent declaration of martial law in the city of New Rome, some have expressed doubts that elections will in fact go ahead.

The current Chancellor is Her Imperial Highness the Princess Irene, the Emperor Andreus' sister. She is the leader of the Pantocratoria First Party. The opposition party, the Loyal Christian Front Party, is led by His Imperial Highness the Prince Basil, the Emperor Andreus' (and the chancellor's) brother.

The current government is undergoing a restructuring, but a tricameral legislature, with elections every 3 years, flexible, and 30 years (1/10th replaced every 3 years), is planned. Presidential and judicial (at least partial - 1/3rd?) elections are planned, possibly every 9 years...

The United Socialist States of Radivostok was declared a one party state a number of years ago at the unanimous approval of the senate. Whilst the Radivostok Socialist Party is the only political group, the people elect representatives to the Senate from the RSP, which gives some choice as there are varying opinions within the party. The Chairman himself is centre left himself, and opinions in the party run from this to the extremely far left across the board.
Ruskkia

Elections are never held in Imperial Ruskkia.

If somebody wants power, we go to war.

At least that explains our rather usual civil war (both length and the actual war).
