The new economic assesment of the the nation

12-03-2004, 03:27
After taking time to study the economy of soddslaw the evaluation team have arrived at some interim conclusions.
1. The woodchip industry is unlikely to survive for very much longer in its present form as exports to RealEarth will dwindle. This is largely due to changes in student funding in the UK. Now that students of that sorry land are obliged to take out loans which cannot be repaid in a normal lifetime, many of these are deciding that to die and leave a big debt is more comfortable than to die and leave a modest debt. This has resulted in the grotty woodchip papered student bedsit being much less desirable.
There has been some image problems with our basket weaving industry. It would seem that some nations who have our language as their second tongue have tended to confuse 'wicker baskets' with the phrase ' wicked bast..ds'. This has tended to rather dampen our export drive.
Both these issues will be addressed in the next pronouncement

Acting onthe interim report of the economic evaluation team, the government of Soddslaw have decided on a policy of 'retarded progress.'
(the phrase 'Retarded Progress' Given to the world by professor IM Acharlaton has every mark of his genius as it means whatever we need it to mean.) It will be used as the guiding light to set up our wood-waste treatment plant. This will use surplus woodchip and convert it into quality hydrocarbon products by closed distillation at atmospheric pressure. Phase one of this will yield high quality turpentine and wood preservative.
Within a very short time we expect to be supplying the world with something in which every artist will be happy to dip their brushes.
