PIRUS- The tumultous history of BitingReality and RomeW entered a new chapter on Wednesday night, as Roman Emperor Paul XII unexpectedly granted BitingReality their freedom and, almost as promptly, BitingReality invaded and annexed the territories of Nikkism and PandemonicAbode (who were under regional supervision (OOC: these countries no longer exist in NationStates) in the MuchBoards region.
Paul cites that he received a "tremendous" response from the BitingRealitans that they were not happy with direct Roman rule and wanted independence. The independence movement in BitingReality started almost after the Roman tanks left the BitingReality capital of Pirus after the conflict which erupted because of BitingReality's proposed compulsory cannibalism law. The movement had been growing steadily in the province with numerous protests- most peaceful- with the voice eventually getting so loud, says Paul, "that RomeW had to listen".
"I had my doubts about assuming direct control", said Paul at a news conference announcing BitingReality's independence. "I knew they were not happy with us rolling our tanks in and asserting our dominance, but we had no other choice. However, the protests were getting too big and too loud against our occupation afterwards, so I made a conscious decision that it was time to let BitingReality have a go at it on its own." Paul also mentioned that he hopes that this move will end 400 years of disputes with BitingReality, including 200 years of rocky Roman occupation where the only thing keeping BitingReality a Roman province was RomeW's military might. "There is no point in keeping a territory within your country if it is ultimately unhappy with your prescence."
The new leader of BitingReality is Netrimus Ducalia, the popular leader of most of BitingReality's peaceful independence protests. Ducalia hailed the decision as a "triumph" and echoed Paul's hopeful sentiment of resolving the bitter relations between the nations. "Our relations with RomeW have always been rocky," said Ducalia to millions of supporters in Pirus after Paul's announcement. "Never had we enjoyed a moment of peaceful harmony with RomeW, and we hope that today, now that we have our independence, we may be able to finally reach good relations with RomeW."
However, hours after Ducalia made his announcement in Pirus, BitingReality planes moved swiftly to occupy the state-less territories of Nikkism and PandemonicAbode, a move that may not sit well with a MuchBoards region known for peace. Ducalia insists that he is under legal ground to occupy the territories as they have no organized leadership system of their own, and says that he intends on leaving the MuchBoards region alone.
"The territories are state-less, so we decided to assume the role of the state there," explains Ducalia. "We are in no way intending on being aggressive in the MuchBoards region."
Time may be the only one who can know for certain if Ducalia is telling the truth, but for now, none of that matters. Today is the celebration- tommorow is the work.
