OOC:This little RP is inspired by Fallout and Fallout 2. Feel free to post comments and such.

It began with a B-52 strike against Iesus Christi, the war was short, and at the very end, a single nuclear weapon was launched. The multi-megaton MIRV nuclear missile was launched by a third party. It was one missile out of many, the others destroyed, but this one slipped by. Striking Trenton and the area surrounding, 6 million lives were instantly lost and the radiation fallout affected a massive region within the former Republic. The fallout was cleaned up over the decades, however the city of Trenton itself was never cleaned up, the radiation around it, and inside of the city, considered way to dangerous for any real exposure. The effects of the radiation were only now just beginning to drop, to within levels that radiation suits would be able to provide protection against it.
The general public always thought Trenton was targeted for the sole reason that it was a population center, however this was not true. The area was carpet nuked for a reason, a reason which was known to few in the world. Beneath Trenton there were two underground facilities. One of them a self sustained bomb shelter, and the second a research facility named EasTek. One of the warheads hit the facility by a stroke of luck and punched right through the top armor and went several levels down leaving a crater in the earth. Passing satellites pointed toward the earth designed to pick up radiation would definately notice a spike in the region of Trenton. The people who lived in towns outside of the radiation zone, would come to call the area "The Glow".
“Come on Joey on your feet and hurry up and get moving….the civies are already on the ISSAPC.” The Army sergeant called out over toward a sleeping corporal.
Shifting slightly the soldier in gray power armor stood up clumsily and looked around from side to side grumbling a bit and called up, “So we’re moving out already Sarge?”
“What do you mean already? You’ve been out for two hours, hurry up and grab your gun.” The sergeant said as he moved with his own rifle held at his side. Moving out of the door, the sergeant was followed by seven other soldiers leaving the corporal behind to collect the rest of his gear and play catch up with the group.
It was nearly dawn at the Sierra Army Depot, and the lone transport sat one of the pads on the outside parking lot next to the stored artillery pieces. The last of the civilians loaded up onto the shuttle, about 12 in all. Mostly scientists and a few medics they were all anxious to visit the wasteland that was and surrounded Trenton. The grunts loaded up last and the pilot looked back to make sure everything was tied down. “Welcome to Federal Army Air, this is your captain speaking, we’ll be reaching the ruins of Trenton Domestic Airport at approximately 0…850, weather is supposed to be cloudy and cold with a chance of rain. Our in-flight movie will be how best to deal with radiation in the wastes and how best to handle any mutants or such in the city.”
The last part was more of a joke than actual statement of fact. No one knew what laid in the wastes of the city. Nothing came out, nothing went in. It was that simple. The ISSAPC pushed off its landing pad as the engines roared to life and blue flame propelled the troop transport up. The engines rotating in midair the transport then moved forward off toward the direction of Trenton, a three hour trip from the Army Depot.
“Dr. Killian, do you think anyone survived the blast in the research facility?” One of the scientists speculated as he checked over his radiation suit, and then checked his Geiger counter.
“Its not at all likely. The research center while being self contained and able to last for several years, it’s been nearly 50 since anyone has heard anything from the area. Any survivors would have died of starvation by now…” Killian shook his head from side to side slightly as he sat back the movie starting up and going over the effects of radiation and how to determine if one has radiation poisoning. The troopers were located in a completely separate area of the ISSAPC away from the civilians engaged in their own conversation.
“We’ll break up into two squads. Corporal Tyler here…if he can keep his eyes open will go with the scientists and babysit them as they try and enter the facility. Remember they have clearance we don’t. They can be there if they want, your just there to guard them for the time being. Now I’m going to take a separate squad and scout the supposed entrance to a bomb shelter…”
The still half asleep Corporal raised his head at the mention of a bomb shelter, “Your telling me people may still be alive Sarge?”
The sergeant just shook his head abit and unrolled a map onto the army crate in front of them, “Its only rumors, its doubtful anyone got to the shelter in time for it to be of any use. If they had, they’ll be wearing blue jump suits with yellow trims and numbering. On the front on the upper right hand side they’ll have the name of the Vault…from VaulTek’s records, the Trenton Vault was numbered 03. On the back in large lettering like a sports player it’ll be 03, with the name of the person above it. Again though this is all real speculation. The bombs fell fast and its doubtful anyone made it to the shelter in time.”
“Why all the secrecy Sarge? Why don’t the civies know about the shelter as well as the research facility?”
“Because Corporal, the Shelter was a military housing facility, which also stored six Peacekeeper ICBMs. We aren’t sure why they weren’t launched…”
“Alright Sarge, it sounds like a plan to me…when do you guys wanna meet up at the ISSAPC rally point again?”
“I figure we rally if all goes well at 1830 hours…if not we rendezvous again at the landing site at 0830. If you or we aren’t there by then, then you’ve got orders to leave with the civilians and return back to Sierra. Got it?”
“No problem Sarge…”
