Elections for Board of Directors of UNSC

These are proceedings of the Provisional Board of the United Nations Space Consortium.

Sponsored by the great Region of Texas!

Note: There are three polls in this election. The election is at different locations with different candidates because the NS Forum limits the number of options which can be added to a poll. Each participant has three votes, one in each poll. You may vote for a total of three candidates.

Today, we begin to choose the leadership for the consortium. We have 11 candidates, presented below in order they are listed on the ballots:

Poll 1:
Imitora
Five Civilized Nations
Colony States
Prof. Tomi Kuper of Watfordshire

Poll 2:
Wetland
Pablicosta
Alrindor
Burly Shirtless Men

Poll 3:
Tedmonton
Hirota
Ukroatia

See the first reply for a link to each of these polls.

A review of the controlling language of the resolution creating the UNSC.

*****
Proposal to Create a United Nations Space Consortium (excerpted)

Whereas the nations of the world wish to unify their efforts at space exploration, and

Whereas, no nation can claim title to the Moon,

Let it be resolved, that an agency to be named the United Nations Space Consortium (hereafter referred to as “U.N.S.C.”) is hereby created. The purpose of the U.N.S.C. shall be to establish a permanent Lunar Base capable of furthering the exploration of space for knowledge and resources.

The U.N.S.C. shall be incorporated under the charter of the United Nations and entirely funded through the sale of stock to any desiring nation, regardless of their affiliation to the United Nations. Non-participating nations are free to pursue their own space objectives, but would not reap the rewards of the investors. No taxing authority shall be created by the passage of this resolution.

Full operational control, design, development, priorities, and administration will be assigned to the Board whose service will remain subject to the will of the stockholders, as provided for in the Articles of Incorporation.

*****

The Board you are about to choose will begin this great adventure in space exploration. They will design an organizational structure that will provide for the human quest to the stars. They will determine a price and sell the stock of the consortium. They will contract with nations, corporations, cooperatives, trade groups, exchanges, and individuals to furnish the services and material required for their UN mandated project.

It is important to remember that any nation who wishes to may participate in this election. UN membership is not a requirement of participation.

We urge all interested parties to choose wisely and be an informed voter. The candidates are free, of course, to post any material they think will help the voters make an informed choice.

According to the results of the earlier Polls conducted during these proceedings, this election is to select 9 directors, each of which will serve 6 months. The earlier poll results are at the bottom of this announcement.

The elections for the candidates have been listed in each poll in random order through a drawing conducted by me, President Rix Wax of the Democratic Order of Rixtex; The Hon. Big Tex, President of The Big Tex Taco Texas Chain of NewTexas and President and UN Delegate of the Region of Texas; and President Dewey of the Crowded Utopian Community of TimDauwalter and Texas Regional Sec. of UN Matters.

Each participating nation will have three votes, for the reason stated above. The nine nations receiving the nine highest number of votes will be elected to the Board of Directors. The nation with highest total number of votes will be elected Chairman of the Board.

This election will last all week, from today, Monday March 8 to Sunday, March 14. All electioneering should be conducted as a reply to the individual polls and should be in the spirit of fair play and NS etiquette.

When the choices are made and the results certified by the Texas Regional Cabinet, the keys to the brand new, never occupied headquarters of the United Nations Space Consortium will be handed over to the Board of Directors.

From that point forward, the Chairman and the entire Board will take control of the Consortium with the stockholders, and staying true to the resolution that created it, propel the United Nations and humankind outward to Luna, the Solar System, and the stars.

Good luck to all the nominees!

Results of UNSC Poll 1: How many Directors?

5 = 1
9 = 11
15 = 8
21 = 4
25 = 9

Results of UNSC Poll 2: How long should Directors serve?

3 months = 6
6 months = 9

(OOC: 5CN's puppet)

The funny thing is besides Pablicosta and me, the rest are relatively new nations (I think), although I could be wrong. Plus, I think a lot of older nations have "claims" to the moon...

As this is the main thread, I'll assume that all the opening statements should ideally have a copy placed in here.

-----

Greetings. I am the delegate from Alrindor. As none of the other delegates have submitted their opening speeches, Alrindor will be the first to move to do so.

Alrindor is a growing, prospective country with a growing economy. It heads up the region of The World Nexus, and also is the UN Delegate for the region. We are currently passing legislation already to put economic funding into space exploration programs, and we feel that a spot on the U.N.S.C. provisional board would be the next step up in helping the world look towards a brighter future in the skies.

As a member of the board, Alrindor will help to submit, review, and debate on relevant issues. We will maintain as neutral a standpoint as possible when evaluating decisions to be made, and we will try to do as much as we can to help further and improve the effectiveness of the board. This will include being active in the board and submitting proposals when needed.

In conclusion, Alrindor would urge for your vote for it as a member of the U.N.S.C. provisional board, and we hope to speak with all of you more in the future. Any questions may be wired directly to our nation, or asked here, if needed.

We urge all interested parties to choose wisely and be an informed voter. The candidates are free, of course, to post any material they think will help the voters make an informed choice.

Let it be known that Watfordshire has petitioned its own region - the 'Anticapitalist Alliance' for participating nations to vote, and would expect any candidate to do the same.

There follows a repeat Broadcast of Tomi Kupers' first address to the electorate:

*Broadcast to all cable and satelite channels via Bri-SAT*

Prof. Tomi Kuper (http://www.benovision.co.uk/NS/TomiKuper01-1.jpg) steps onto an outdoor stage and up to a podium peppered with microphones and cameras.

"The people of Watfordshire - the Shiree - extend our greetings to you all"

(some nations with strict censorship policies may wish to edit the scene that follows, as a swathe of scantily-clad Military Dancers perform the welcoming dance of 'the friendly eunuch'. The dance contains moves that certain puritanical nations may find prurient to say the least)

As the hub-ub dies down, Professor Kuper continues;

"Watfordshire is a nation of caring, peaceful people. We care for our environment, we care for each other and we care about creating a progressive future for those who follow us. The mandate of my people, should I be elected to the UNSC Board of Directors, is to ensure that space, our space; is explored with tenacity, vigour and with a healthy respect for everything we encounter.

We in Watfordshire are prepared for such exploration. Our domestic enterprises into the Earth's orbit have been primarily to place those communications satelites by which I am transmitting this message to you all, but - thanks to the collaberation with our partners of the IFTA,(International Fair Trade Agreement) (http://invisionfree.com/forums/CACE/index.php?c=5) - we are witnessing a new dawn in technology and co-operation that will transport us higher than even some of our most hardened party-goers have been before"

I hope you will consider placing your vote with me. Vote for the Shiree, and you shall see your investment rewarded with passion, verve, humour and joy.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions (ooc: by replying to this thread, via TG, or in the CACE Diplomatic Lounge (http://invisionfree.com/forums/CACE/index.php?showforum=7)) I thank you.

*Broadcast ends*

The Shiree are overjoyed at the number of nations voting in the elections thusfar and hope that this level of commitment and participation will continue once the Board has been elected and the exploration outside our atmosphere has commenced.

Nominees may seek votes from any source whatsoever and are encouraged to campaign on these forums or anywhere they feel it would do them the most good. Visiting other regions and asking for votes can only promote participation in the proceedings.
