Seeking western-style parent nation to breakaway republic..
Yes, that's a sufficiently odd title, I think.
Tarleton and Hesketh is to be a recently independent republic beset by all manner of problems, such as a crashing new economy and conflicting political views on how the people should run their new state.
The people are generally British-alikes, and I thought that while I could leave their roots more or less unsaid it might be good to have a reference in the nation states world. Plus it might be a way to get the nation's foot in the door, so to speak.
So, while I'm thinking up a few more characters I'm hoping for someone to express an interest in losing a bit of their empire ;)
(It seemed more appealing in my head!)

Perhaps your nation was formerly a protectorate of the Dominion that, due to reasons of cultural differences and physical distance between your nation and the homeland, decided to separate. It would certainly make for a fun RP.
I'm interested, and still open to other approaches.
I should add a bit of depth to what's known of the nation thus far.. it's of the modern era, for one, but could easily have been one of the more neglected provinces of a more advanced nation, which might explain the resentment and the break from the old government.
The Allied States are hardly likely to present a major threat to their parent, or anyone else for that matter. Major industries and agricultural products include brick making, peat mining, canal boat building, hunting, fishing, lettuce, leaks, cabbages, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, hay, straw, clay, timber, slate, furniture making, and some textiles. Hardly oil and silicone.
I'm hoping to have the states largely neglected by their official government, only for a local government to spring up without official recognition. It'll be a rag-tag affair, and how the home country proceeds after that is pretty much open. Perhaps there could even be two mother countries- Kotterdam and another, one for Tarleton and one for Hesketh. Maybe they arrived some generations ago in a..gold rush or such, stripped the land of its valuable resources, and lost interest?

Well...
you could be a Pacific Island that broke away from the all-powerful and rather domineering arm of Roania.
But, then I'd have to nuke you. And you're doing a nice RP job. So I'd hate to have to do that.
Go with Kotterdam. (Damn it...)
Or contact Liverpool England or Walmington-on-the Sea (something like that).
Yeah, we could probably do without the nuking :)
Still *Looks around* Maybe time to start creating something to see if anyone picks up an interest..

It could certainly work as an interesting RP. The Dominion's been turning inward of late, concentrating on internal matters in the homeland and staying out of international affairs. It's entirely possible that a small island protectorate would have fallen by the wayside, only to draw attention from home when they begin to enforce their own laws, expel the governor, or perhaps refuse a Dominion naval vessel access to one of their ports. That could cause some tension between the Dominion and your country initially without being something that would neccesitate Airborne Rangers descending on your main cities.
I especially like the idea of your country refusing a naval vessel access to your port. Perhaps one of our new Tritius-D frigates has an accidental collision with wreckage, or perhaps even a marine mammal - They're pretty silent, after all - And has to put into port to have the bow sonar repaired, and your harbour patrol turns it back. Since a Dominion frigate isn't about to fire on what, to its knowledge, is a Dominion police craft, it develops into a stand-off while it radios back to Dominion City to find out what it's supposed to do. Meanwhile, the cops would be sitting there, getting kind of nervous because the 4.5-Inch cannon up on deck could turn their boats into driftwood if the captain decides to make a fight of it.

You could RP breaking away from the Southern half of ASW.
We're a very hard-assed police state who despises any and all forms of freedom. I think that's expressed with our poor working class where factory owners can treat them however they please and even grind up the dead workers to serve as food to other workers.
Most people who exit their houses past 10 o'clock sharp are executed in the streets by A.S.I.A. (Archaic Slang Intelligence Agency) personnel who immediately take over command. Those with clearance are regarded with absolute scrutiny, and it's nearly impossible to get. The entire nation is put on lockdown from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The milder crimes result in execution, while larger crimes result in torture and then execution. No jury, no court. Suspects are immediately killed. Anyone related to the suspects brought in for questioning and should they refuse to answer, they are in turn killed or tortured.
Not to mention, our southern half was at one point owned by the British as a fishing spot until the war of 1812 when they couldn't afford to maintain us anymore. An arctic nation as well. The southern aera thrives off of offshore oil and fishing.
Typically barbaric, and definitely cruel and oppressive. We'd be something really deserving of a rebellion against. Definitely one to not be toelrated after awhile.
Hm. Sounds interesting.
I'm making a post now about the birth of the Allied States, so I might reference Kotterdam, if that's alright. Maybe ASW too.. if it all meshes together agreeably for all parties.
Presumably one of either Tarleton or Hesketh was settled by Kotterdam, and maybe the other by the British until taken-over by ASW in the C19th?
You'll have to excuse me for not knowing much of your nations, and implications involvement with them may have.. I mean, geographically speaking are there any immediate problems in neighbouring territory being occupied in the past by the two of you? Stuff like that.
I'll link the other thread when I've got it going. Quite sleepy now.
