Martian Farstation to be Replaced with Space Fortress

Press Release

The Farstation in orbit over Mars, which has long served as the link between Eurydice and the Sol System, will be decommissioned and returned to Eurydian space. After nearly a century of service to the Republic, the costs to maintain the aging station has grown too high, considering the station’s actual effectiveness. Also, the Farstation’s capabilities and efficiency have come into question. The station has an extremely unorthodox design and is not well suited for the duties it is supposed to carry out.

The Farstation will be replaced. In its stead, The Emperor as well as Eurydian High Command has suggested a Space Fortress class starbase replace the Farstation.

They feel that the Farstation’s defenses are so lacking that there is no possible way it could defend itself against attack. In addition to that, the Farstation has limited resources to allow for Eurydian travel between the various planets of the Sol system. Also, a Space Fortress can hold over 300x as many people as the Farstation, close to 200,000. Emperor Traiden wishes for increased relations between Eurydice and Sol, and the Space Fortress will most likely be the key.

Imperial Governor Arthur Guilder, head of the Farstation, wouldn’t tell us what he felt about the Farstation’s inevitable closure, but we are sure he is wondering whether or not he will be keeping his job. There will be more updates as this story develops.

(OOC: This press release talks about the replacement of the Farstation with a huge ass battle fortress. While those of you on Mars may not know how powerful of a base I'm talking about... I’m sure your governments won’t be too happy when they do find out.)

Arthur Guilder sat in his chair; looking out into the vast, empty wastes of space from his window. He had been the Commander of the Farstation for nearly 15 years, and in that time he had collected many memories. It was unfortunate that progress, as well as High Command, deemed the Farstation to be old and useless. Arthur slowly stood and buttoned up the vest to his finest Midgrace outfit. He will still be commanding the forward outpost in the Sol System (a very notable and respectable thing), but it wont be the same.

The job of an Imperial Governor on a Space Fortress Class Starbase is something completely different from commanding a civilian space station. Instead of hundreds of people under your watch, there are nearly 200,000. Entire fleets can phase through and into Sol using the massive Jump Node the Starbase carries. Arthur knew he would be a military officer once again, and in command of the most powerful weapons platform the Republic builds.

Sir, The Charybdis is awaiting your arrival and I am ready to transfer my data to the Titanus.

“Thank you Diom. Tell Captain Reyburn I’m on my way.” Arthur sighed, gave one more tired look out into space, and left his office.

The Titanus (Just thought I’d give you something to look at. And ignore the damned starfleet vessel.)-

One moment the Farstation was orbiting Mars with the grace normally associated with Eurydian stations, and the next it was gone. Not a trace was left, except residual transmission noise. In the next moment a vastly larger and more powerful piece of equipment phased into Martian orbit. Roughly 50km long, 25km high, and 18 km wide, the Titanus was an awesome sight, the only other sight comparable as far as Eurydian stations go being the Titanus Starbase in Eurydian orbit.

After the Titanus came dozens of transport ships carrying the first crewmembers. With a total population of 200,000, roughly a third of that consists of government personal, be it military or otherwise. More specifically there are roughly 30,000 Imperial Guard soldiers on the Titanus and roughly 5,000 Mobile Infantry. As of right now only 3,000 crewmen were being sent to the Titanus; it would take weeks to fill the entire Starbase.

After the transports came 5 Primus Battlecruisers, the newest addition to the Imperial Guard. These ships would help the Charybdis in its task of defending the Starbase, not that it needs all that much protection. The transports slowly and methodically made their way to the Titanus, coming to rest inside the numerous docking bays. The crew disembarked and headed to their assigned places, while the transports left for Eurydice.
