Metals needed!

29-02-2004, 06:09
To all those who inhabit the Milky Way galaxy, we are in dire need. The planet Terminus, upon which the Foundation exists, is barren of almost all metals. Nothing exists in the amount necessary to sustain a mechanized and modern society, to say nothing of advancing beyond our current status. We are in need of almost all metals, from steel to copper to titanium to silver. We are willing to purchase the metals if necessary, just know we are desperate.

For purchase of the metals, we are willing to trade our vast technological wonders.

(OOC:Yes, I know I am a young nation. I have been reading these forums for a long time before I made this nation, so I know you can't just say "I am superior to all of you, and have technology beyond anything you have." The entire nation is a scientific foundation, it's only purpose for existance, and its sole activity for the past 50 years, is the gathering and expansion of knowledge. So, I'm RP'ing under the basis that my advanced technology will be accepted. The reason I believe this will be accepted is because, though I'm RP'ing with the technology to create giant planet killing ships, I am incapable producing, supporting, or crewing said ships. So, I know how to make a gun, but am incapable of actually building one. Is that okay?).

IC:

We have advanced power generation techniques, transportation technology, and equivelant wonders in almost all other scientifica areas. Please, we need your help.

Mayor, Terminus City

OOC2: Oh yeah, this is a future tech nation that inhabits its own planet. Just in case you hadn't gathered that

(I added the 'OOC' and 'IC' tags in the edit)

You really need to learn the difference between IC and OOC...badly...

OOC: Is that better?

Why do you not just mine a nearby asteroid belt for metal? Especially iron and nickel which are the primary components of steel alloys. We seriously question your technological advancement considering you have ignored this solution. However, we are willing to trade you some of our asteroid mining equipment for your technological wonders.

OOC: The planet is entirely devoid of metals, can't build the machines to harvest the metal. Its from Asomaphs (I sooo can't spell) Foundation series.

OOC: Sorry, should have posted this link in the first post http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127061

The opening has a description of the Terminus system, Terminus is the only thing in the system. No other planets and no asteroids. Even if their were asteroids, A Few Rich people is right. If we have no metals how will we build asteroid mining equipment?

And you're right, you sooo can't spell. It's spelt "Asimov"

If the planet is totally devoid of metals then we still question their technological advancement since so many things such as chemistry and electrics are based on the use of metals. But our offer stands, although it may be such that we will have to sell them long range ships to escape their own system.

(OOC: As someone with a technological/scientific background...a complete absence of metals would have left a society in the Bone Age. (The period between the stone age and the copper/bronze age) when all tools were made of bone or stone. Or someone see's a way out of that technological level that I don't. But I'll play along...)

After careful review of your navigation information, we will gladly sell you both metals and the technology to mine them from other systems. Mainly we see no reason why you must be dependent on foregin nations. And we have excess astroid mining equipment.

OOC edit: The Var don't understand so my IC comments stand. And I have always been lukewarm on Asimov in the first place. But I'll dig it up...

OOC: The thread I posted will really help. If you don't want to read the 7 uber long posts, the 8'th post in the thread has a synopsis. It explains the history of my nation and its current status. It should clear some things up

Our vast technological resources are at your disposal. What do you require?

As for us, we require everything. Steel, copper, titanium, silver, aluminum, gold, vanadium, and almost anything else. We have become dependant upon the usuaully common metals, with the sudden loss of our support we are in need of almost all types of metals to support our current society. Thank you in advance.

OOC: Please read my previous post. What did the Var offer? To help you develop a mining from other systems after they were informed that there were no other plantary objects in the system. (Although I assume there is a star) by selling you used equipment. Or are we assuming that the Glactic Empire completely wiped out all of the mineral within your arm of the Milky Way?

OOC: Hey, you edited your post after I replied! I plead slow page reloading!

Anyway, Steel Butterfly replied first. I'll see how that goes before I enter into any other negotiations (First come first serve. Sorry)

OOC: I very much doubt that he added the term "other systems" since that would be poor Rp. And his edit appears to be an OOC comment...

OOC: Such a society could eventualy create very strong glass or plastics to take the place of metal...
Glass is a VERY strong material, its just pretty brittle, but if properly tempered it can be almost as good as metal.

Well, lets see, after mining the Juko belt, and harvesting from Terondus three... We have more than enough on our planet Dubrio, so if you send in some frigates, we can load it up. Lets see what we have.

-40 tons of Splinight
-10 tons of Folcanite
-30 tons of Dramda
-50 tons of steel (refined already)
-60 tons of Naquadria
-70 tons of Naquada
-5 tons of Helintratanithatinite

Those are all the spare metals we have on Dubrio, we could gather some more from all the other planets in Techon space but that would be tiredsome. For all that we are asking for 3.5 million credits (The currency in Techon). We would be glad to see what stuff you will give us as well, we might be able to rip it apart and use the scrap for our new Defender class ships. (They are in the capital class)
