Edolian Axackal Pushes for Special Economic Zone Status
Press Release; February 20th, 20??
Edolian Ministry of Information
Earlier today, a petition, signed by two million Edolian Axackalis, was received by the Imperator. The petition requested that the Edolian province of Axackal be immediately granted the status of a "Free Market Special Economic Zone." The petition was written by Minister of Parlaiment Jake Larence; a senior member of the Christian-Capitalist Party. Minister Larence's plan calls for the dismantling of government-controlled services in Axackal, replaced by a free-market system. Under the plan, Axackal would remain a province of Edolia but would be subject to different economic laws. Neither the Imperator, nor Chancellor Jeni von Roth, President of the leading Communist Party has made an official statement on the request but the issue will most likely play a large part in the upcoming elections.
The Taiwanese Business Lobby has sent a research team into Edolia to conduct market research on the possible impact of the issue.

The Imperator of Edolia, Erik von Blatterschplitt, announced today that he is open to the possibility of establishing special economic rules for the Province of Axackal. In a brief statement to the press, he remarked,
"The fact that Axackal has both a long-standing tradition of capitalism, coupled with its distance from mainland Edolia makes the idea of an Axackali Special Economic Zone not entirely to be discarded."
The issue to be debated on the Parlaimentary floor this evening.

After a record-breaking, twenty-seven hour straight Parlaimentary session, the Imperial Parlaiment voted today to hold a referendum in Axackal to determine its economic status. The referendum is tentatively scheduled for March 20th and is expected to result in the creation of a new Free Market Special Economic Zone. No comments were made by either the Chancellor or the Imperator.
OOC: Is this the Axackal that joined Arda and got backstabbed by Melkor?
OOC: Is this the Axackal that joined Arda and got backstabbed by Melkor?
<<OOC: No. I have no idea about that Axackal (that was called Axackal II, wasn't it?). This is a puppet state formally of Allanea that was ceded to Edolia after a very bloody war. I let the puppet die (not fair to have more than one nation in my opinion) but roleplay Axackal as being part of Edolia.
I would guess that the Axackal you are refering to (unless Axackal comes from some book or movie) was another puppet of Allanea's. I really couldn't tell you but remember being curious about it.>>

(OOC: Actually, the other Axackal was a Mishakal puppet.)

With the Axackali referendum closely approaching, economics, government officials and lawmakers throughout the Socialist Empire are preparing for the changes that this referendum will almost certainly bring about. With preliminary polls suggesting that 78% of Axackalis support Special Economic Zone status, there is little doubt that the proposal will garner the two-thirds support needed for it to pass.
The Imperator spoke today to a crowd of Axackali Provincial Senate Ministers, showing his support for the plan. At the same time, however, he stressed that Edolia was prepared to do all in its power to keep the Province from breaking off and that many Edolian regulations would remain in place in the nation including a ban on automobiles and firearms.
The referendum is scheduled for March 20th of this year.
