Ethnic Tensions in Sahibstan

27-02-2004, 11:16
Reports are coming in of yet more ethnic tensions in eastern Sahibstan between local tribesmen and the Anglos. Accounts are sketchy at best, but we understand that several men are believed dead as a result of rioting brought about by the closure of an Anglo business by a native government in the area. We will continue to update this story as it evolves.

OOC: Sahibstan is an attempt at RPing what would have happened, had the British not "quit India". It's a Commonwealth member (like modern India is) and is effectively divided between the minority Anglos (Anglo-Indians plus about 50 years) and the Natives. Hopefully this makes sense, and if it doesn't then things should become clearer soon.

Liberation observed Sahibstan's progress from its vantage point in the Bay of Bengal.
Natives shutting-down white enterprise? Centrally planned economy? This wouldn't do at all, certainly not!

(Plumped-up tag for curiosity's sake. ISAN (that's us) is a fairly right-wing capitalist state dominated by President Eustace Brown, a white man, and his massive FBCo enterprises. The white and nominally Christian population weilds all serious power via the company, and along with the largely middle class Muslim population makes up the majority. A large Hindu/Indian minority is severely down-trodden, despite being officially represented by one of the three stars on the nation's flag. If you want/need such a power on the doorstep to intervene we'd be more than happy, and while ISAN is obviously much more powerful than Sahibstan or India, the Nicobarese Marines do have a reputation for making a horrible mess of things, so we can come and help/hinder the whites as much or little as you like. Whew, that went on too long..)
