Time for elections...

Imitora

Well, its that time again, time for my nation to forgo its policy of not really carring what the world thinks, and start carring what the world thinks. At least for a brief period of time. A new First Speaker needs to be elected, and so we have isolated a few candidates, given them some cash to start up a campaign, and find out who should lead Imitora next. So, ladies and gents, cast your vote to one of the few candidates, and lets see what happens.

Candidate 1: Stephanie Waitkus->Daughter of the late Elizabeth Waitkus, former President of Imitora, Stephanie is the current CEO of Imitora based Weyland-Yutani Corporation. She promises to continue the tradition of support of big buisness in Imitora, and keep the country on its traditional Catholic, Conservative path. Stephanie leads the national polls, and hopes to gather international support.

Candidate 2: Alena Hoberg->Alena Hoberg is in her first run for any form of political office. She seems to have a middle of the road appraoch to politics, taking a moderate approach to national and international topics. She is in support of lowering the rights and power of Imitoran big buisness, and believes that she would have more support if it weren't for Stephanie's control of the WYC Corporate Militia.

Candidate 3: Laural McGuire->Local Socialist/Communist supporter, it has been said that she defies nature having survived all the anti-Socialist/Communist attacks and prejudice. She follows standard doctorine of the Socialist/Communist groups in Imitora, and of course has small national support.

SO! Nows the time. Let Imitora take the direction you want it to take. Cast your vote, and see where you get.

OOC: Anyone except the first one. I'm neither conservative nor catholic
(nor even christian) in my value or belief systems.

IC: The traditions of yer people should certainly be honoured.
One's gods are what watch o'er yer people and you, too, should
honour them.
My people's deities are not yours, however, and we're not sure
about big business, so I'll not vote for the first one.
And we're not a Communist people, either.
So that really leaves the middle road.

Does Imitoran law allow foreign sponsorship of candidates?

The government of Yn will not intervene within the policics of a foreign country, but feels certain Imitora will remain a proud and strong nation. Would it be possible to establish an Yn embassy in Imitora?

The Taiwanese Business Lobby has donated $5.5 million to Stephanie Waitkus's campaign coffers, and has sennt her a memorandum discussing Free Trade.

Waitkus shifted in her chair as she watched teh news. While she held Imitora votes, the International vote was with her oponent, Hoberg. McGuire had no chance.

She made a note to thank the Tawainese, even though 5.5 million was rather small compraed to the amount she made yearly. She tossed the document on free trade aside, and would make an attempt to contact the Buisness Lobby, and invite them for the inaguration.

However, she had other business to attend to, and picked up the phone. She spoke breifly and curtly into the mouth piece, and soon, she had ten men standing in her office, getting briefed on the soon to be unfortunate demise of McGuire.

Interior, Chairman's Office, Teakland Legislature. The People's Chairman Quincy Teeth sits at his desk, filling out the Jumble. A middle-aged man with a shoulder-length red hair and a closely trimmed full beard, he stretches his arms and looks out the window, trying to unscramble a particularly difficult puzzler. Enter Minister of Foreign affairs Christopher Hepburn, a short slim man with a thin black moustache, clad in a burgundy suit.

"Mr. Chairman?" He asks, his hands folded behind him.

"Eh? What?" Chairman Teeth snaps back to reality with a smile on his face, which flickers slightly when he recognizes the man standing in front of him. "Ah, Christopher," he says, folding his newspaper. "How are you doing this fine day?"

"I trust you reviewed the files I sent you yesterday, sir," Hepburn replied, ignoring the chairman's question and tossing him the dossier he had held behind his back. "The Imitorian elections are fast approaching, and we should at least try and show a little interest." He sat in the dark wooden chair in front of the desk and crossed his legs.

The Chairman opened the dossier and flipped through the files. "I don't see why we have to get involved in the politics of other countries."

"Mr. Chairman, with all due respect," Hepburn said with an edge of annoyance, "if we don't create alliances with the world's politicians, we risk becoming a political island."

The Chairman nodded his head and scratched his beard thoughtfully. "Very well," he said. "Send word to Laural McGuire's people that we wish to extend our support to her."

Hepburn's face blanched. "Sir," he began, "McGuire? She's lucky to be alive, let alone a candidate. I mean," he stammered, "I mean...she hasn't a hope!"

The chairman grinned his famously wide grin. "What can I say?" he said, tossing the dossier back at his wide-eyed minister. "I like an underdog."

Laural's tiny house was more than adaquite for her needs. She could produce all the propaganda that she needed, and could live comfortably with minimal expense. And it was out of the way. Perfect for her.

However, she didn't hear the near wisper like noise of the Special Operations dropship coem to a hover over her house, or the sound of ten CPA-25 equiped operatives come down on her roof. She also didn't hear them leave the roof, and crack the lock to her back door.

She was found the next day riddled with holes as large as a human fist. Obviously .50cal rounds from close range. The parts of her body that hadn't been shreaded by bullets had been torn apart by a knife, or other sort of blade.

The news was released to the global community later that day, and the nations that had donated to her campaign had been told that the money they had sent was now being split up between the other two candidates.

"Comrade Prime Minister, it seems that the leftist candidate in Imitora has been murdered..." The Prime Minister picked up the reports that the messenger had layed on his desk. He then looked up at the messenger "Watch this closely, very closely..."

Waitkus watched the anouncement with a sort of pleasure. She was now sitting in her home in Northampton, watching ther new reports unfold as teh day progressed on.

The attack was untracable. No one would be able to proove that WYC was behind the attack on the left wing woman, and of course, this meant that the operation could quite possibly continue, if things held a course. At teh moment, Hoberg was gaining a slow momentum in the votes and polls, but those were only that, polls.

It would be another day before the official votin began, and Waitkus, while sipping a bloody mary, wondered if she should order something done about Hoberg.

Interior, Chairman's Office, Teakland Legislature, Night. Chairman Teeth sits at the head of a short table, surrounded by half a dozen of his cabinet, staring at the news report sitting in front of him.

Laural McGuire was found dead in her home today, the victim of a home invasion. All international campaign donations are now being split up between the other two candidates.

"As I told you, Mr. Chairman," began Foreign Minister Hepburn, a smug look on his face, "McGuire didn't have a chance. I think that--"

"Mr. Chairman," interrupted Darion Franco, Chief of Staff, "what are your thoughts on this matter?"

"How much money did we send out to Ms. McGuire, Alicia?" the Chairman asked his Finance Minister.

The plump Asian woman flipped through the small file in front of her. "We figured that 25 million would have more than suited her purposes, Mr. Chairman."

"So," the Chairman mused, "we've now effectively donated money to both of the other candidates, even though we didn't throw our support behind them?" He sighed, then turned to the large man at the far end of the table. "Garreth," he began, "what's the likelihood of us seeing that money again?"

"Honestly, Mr. Chairman?" The Minister of War folded his hands on the table. "I don't know. It's not going to help matters any if I get involved with it, but I'm sure if I work with Chris on this one, we might be able to get that money back."

He nodded. "Get to it," he said. "I'm not going to be paying for a campaign that I don't support."

(Early the next morning, a letter was sent out to the nation of Imitoria, requesting the return of Teakland's donation on the grounds that the candidate was no longer in the running.)

OOC: The head of Imitoria looked at the report, wondering what teh hell the Teaks were talking about, in IMITORA on the other hand...

IC:

The letter from Teakland made its way through a myriad of hands. Due to the lack of any true election committee, no one quite new where to file the complaint. However, both candidates did have their respective party respondant reply to the query.

Both read along the lines of that becuase teh money was being used for an election it was to be split up for further elction use. Because the election is one of hte few public acts in Imitora, the money used in any election goes to teh public, and therefor to the candidates. Both letters appologized for the loss of funding, however, neither really offered any answers on the possibility of the money returning, which was just like saying no, the cash was staying.
