"Diplomats, emissaries, friends and foes from abroad, hear my words! Today it brings me much happiness to announce to you the commencement of the Greatest Armament.

Orcs, Trolls, Uruk-Hai, Easterlings, Southrons, Dunlandings, and the Veriags throughout the Imperium have come to the call of Lord Melkor, Lord of All. Millions of people and beasts are now building and constructing their greatest projects that would send their Gloroius Empire to its zenith.

First, we'll build a whole bunch of weapons and ammo. Then, we'll use them to smack your punk asses down. You know who you are.

This Greatest Armament will to be mightier than that of... well, yours."

The Confederate forces had been on Earth for two days now. They had found a very old port city, Gaza, and made it their base of operations. About 2000 ragamuffins lived in the area, but it was easy enough to restore the old walls and haul in machineray and some portable harbor supplies. Some had been stolen, but most brought out of storehouses from back on Mars. Even now hundreds of transports and merchant vessels were loading up and carrying troops and supplies into Earth orbit.

Some 30,000 people inhabitited the city now. Dropships and tent villages lay scattered about within the 5 mile ring of defenses. about a dozen old gunboats had been found in storehouses and were being restored and refitted for battle use. Dozens of fiberglass boats were being put together for patrol use in the waters. Metal and plastic boats were ebing flown in on frigates and lighters, along with parts for larger boats and gravships.

Gravtanks and Mechas moved about the camps, glistening in the light of the noonday sun. The locals were bringing in fish for them to eat, but they had brought much alongwith them to eat. Several plants had been planted in an attempt to revive the dead landscape that had been ADK.

Planes flew overhead, carrying out new orders...

Several Upholder-A's plummetted through the atmosphere and made their way towards Arda while Clan Frigates descended behind them.

All acted as driven by some force, all carrying out orders. The orders of Xero Tora.

"Theyr're moving already?" Garrand blinked. His gaze slid over to the newly promoted Warlord, one Phárros Adûnakôr, who had been shipped back to the Imperium not but a week ago.

Adûnakôr grinned. "Looks like the 'Great Armament' was a sham. There's no way the could have carried out any sort of meaningful program to arm their men. Apparently, they're coming after us now."

Garrand's face was clouded with doubt for a moment, but it quickly gave way to a crooked grin. "Hasty... very hasty. I think I like it." He nodded a bit and his hand slid across his desk to retreive a folder. He opend it and started skimming. "Well, I'm sure they'll find much more than they bargained for. Your job, Adûnakôr, will be to command out land armies in this campaign. Althalon would do it if he were here, but his situation on Io prohibits him from leaving, as you know. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to prove your mettle as a commander." He snickered a bit. "As if Mars wasn't enough."

Phárros chuckled. "Indeed. But given the tactical and strategic implications of what the Confederacy is doing, I don't see how it will be that difficult to smash them utterly. Coming after us like this..." he shook his head. "Their minds are clouded with thoughts of venegance and empty promises of victory. They've prepared their offense now for weeks, but we've been entrenching for months now. They'd need at least a 3:1 advantage to storm our beach-head, which I doubt they have."

Garrand waved a hand dismissilvely. "Still, I want to get you out to the Front as soon as possible, and start rallying the men. I'll deal with the battlefleets, as usual. As we speak, the 1st Fleet is bearing for our southern border, and the 5th, 7th, and 10th are moving to interpose themselves between the Imperium and the incoming forces. It'll be interesting to see the Confederacy's respone to a Sky Furnace or four."

Adûnakôr grinned. "And the Dreadnoughts. I don't think those suckers have even been used yet." Garrand nodded in reply as Warlord Adûnakôr slowly stood and saluted. "I'll be off now. lets do this thing."

Garrand nodded and chuckled. "Indeed. Melkor will be pleased."

The fourteen planes and the twenty-two gunships movedi n closer, planes from the south, gunships from the east. Even two small destroyers descended into the atmosphere and joined the ranks of the small Armada.

Several old S/K-1000 Fighters, known better as the LO-4 Miroku, here on Earth, flew within thier midst. The ships found the thicker atmosphere a Earth to be a slight annoyance, but they adapted and continued with their mission.

They saw the Imeprial Gravfleets move and moved to counter. The ever continuing pattern of thrust and parry was shown throughout the strategies of war. The Confederate forces were probably outnumbered 3:1 at least, but that didn't matter.

As the planes came within firing range of the 1st Imperial Gravfleet they let loose a volley of 20 plasma missiles each, 100 in all. The planes dove as fire undoubtedly came from the 1st Gravfleet. They attempted to come up under the gravships and fired twin pulse lasers into the underbellies of the massive ships. They fired more missiles, this time hollow-tipped and simulating the effect of a hollow-tip built except larger and speeding at at least Mach 3.

The 22 gunships, 18 frigates, and 2 destroyers began their run on the 5th, 7th, and 10th Imperial gravfleets. The Gunships fired 40 plasma missiles each and some 2 dozen kinetics, while the frigates preferred using their hollow-tipped missiles, firing off at least 60 of them.

The destroyers stayed back for support, refueling smaller ships and firing pulse cannons and plasma cannons into enemy ships.

OOC: Missiles launched:

Planes: 100 plasma missiles, 40 hollow-tipped missiles

Battle Group 1: 160 plasma missiles, 60 hollow-tipped missiles, 24 kinetics

Garrand tightened his gloves and snickered. He cracked his neck and stepped up to his Command Station, familiarizing himself at once with the fleet formations. He peered for a moment at the Confederacy ships, analyzing their formation as well, trying to figure out what exactly they were trying to do. 'Attacking with so few ships... they must have some sort of trick up their sleeve...' he thought, as he ordered Gunship PD systems deployed and moved to the fore of the formations. Fighters streaked out in droves towards the enemy gunships, where they would mob them utterly. Garrand expected nothing less than the obliteration of the enemy gunships, vastly outnumbered by the three fleets' fighter escort.

The Dreadnought Utumno he ordered to ascend, and once in position it trained its massive gauss cannons at the enemy fleets, ripping the sky apart seconds later with a blistering volley of close to 3 dozen uranium capped artillery rounds, aimed unanimously at the closes Confederacy Destroyer. Air Destroyer escort broke formation and ascended with the Dreadnought and gunship escort to get a better firing vector. The 5th Fleet pressed towards the enemy at once, with the 7th and 10th breaking off to either side in a flanking maneuver.

Garrand reached upwards and clicked an ethereal blue button on the display, which showed the status of every weapon system aboard every ship. They were 100% ready, all of them. Before responding to the missile attack, he reasoned, he could squeeze off a devastating return volley. Coupled with a kinetic attack from the mainland, it should rip an irreperable hole in the Confederacy Fleets. He ordered the volley at once, as the ships moved to mitigate the damage from the incoming missiles. As the enemies' weapons neared them, the 5th and 7th unleashed a frightening salvo of heavy fusion missiles, aimed indiscriminantly at the scattered Confederacy vessels. Each enemy frigate suddenly found itself on the business end of at least 5 shipkiller class missiles.

Immediately following the issile barrage was the artillery from the 10th, trained on key structural points on the enemy frigates that for one reason or another had been targetted with fewer missiles than the rest. AA Frigate escort stayed in position at the front of the fleets, just waiting to decimate any fighters or bombers that might be foolishe enough to challenge them.

Garrand grinned wickedly. Now it was time to throw a man-sized wrench in the Confederacy's missile attack. The move forward by the 5th Fleet was revealed at last to be a feint as he ordered crews to initiate their emergency grav-burst missile defenses, as the enemy ordinance closed. One by one, as the missiles came in, they were crushed by a massive gravitic field generated by the ships, which lost altitude rapidly as a result. The grav-field around the ships had been reversed, crushing any nearby missiles, but sending the ships rapidly towards the sea, unable to maintain altitude with the field reversed.

As they neared the water, the drives were normalized, with the ships slowing drastically about 500 feet from the surface...

... but they continued their descent, slipping one by one into the waves, allowing the 7th and 10th Fleets to take their punches. The enemy barrage had been aimed unanimously at the 5th Fleet, apparently, and almost none of them got through. What few munitions did breach the fleet did light to moderate damage, but it did manage to compromise several AA frigates and a Battleship to the vicinity of 75% combat effectiveness. Most of the damage was done, generally, to external weapons systems--nothing the crews couldn't repair in due time. A moment later, a casualty estimate appeared on his screen. Close to 150 men had died in the attack.

Gunship escort, its job having been done defensively, screamed after the enemy fighters, changing up their weapons setup in route. each ship loosed a sole AAMRAM at the enemy fighters, totalling 36.

Garrand watched the battle unfold and ordered the 5th to move as fast as possible under the rolling waves of the South Ardan Sea, where they would come up eventually and doom the Confederacy Fleet almost single-handedly. Gauss batteries continued to fire at will as they maneuvered around the Confederacy Fleets.

Soon the enemy would be crushed. Sending word to the beach-head garrison, he advised Warlord Adûnakôr not to expect a landing.

Several Confederate vessels were crushed immediately by the incoming barrage. The frigates and gunships, being fast and agile, and unloading the rest of their projectile weapons into nearby vessels, dodging and weaved superbly, their weight being decreased by at least 30%.

The C.M.S. Fidei Defensor was destroyed instantaneuosly, leaving one destroyer for support and cover.

This strike had been a probing action and nothing more, but what remained of the small taskforce had to escape...

In orbit, two carriers began unloading their fighters, 160 in all... all heading towards the battlefield...

More Confederate ships descended, 2 new Gravity Destroyer type vessels, Heavy Destroyers, Ion Destroyers, Missile Destroyers, Support Destroyers, Light Destroyers....

And dozens more of Frigates and Gunships... And now Gunboats too, new Upholder II vessels.

In all, some 200 fighters, 30 capital ships, and 120 other vessels were descending to the planet... The battle field must be leveled.

OOC: The Destroyer is the largest vessel in the Confederate fleet that is atmosphere capable. When frigates are refferred to they are usually refferred to as vessels slightly larger than gunboats but smaller than destroyers. What normally would be considered a 'frigate' i.e. Support Frigates and Ion Frigates are now classified as Destroyers and Crusiers, while Crusiers becoming Battle Cruisers and Battleships.

It sort of goes like this....

Fighter types
Corvette types
Dropship types
Gunship types
Gunboat types
Frigate types
Destroyer types
Crusier types
Battle Cruiser types
Battleship types
Dreadnaught types

And there you have it... Any questions?

[ooc: gah, I forgot about this thread. Lemme respond now, if I may :P ]

Fleet Commodore Maakha Reuser roared over his comm--an open channel to all vessel captains in his fleet "Back! Get back! They're coming in force!"

The Fleets began a fighting withdrawl from the ADK Mars decoy force, unleashing salvo after salvo of heavy fusion missiles at the Confederacy ships as they faded quickly away from the battlefield to fortify with the 1st which was waiting just over the Bay. The 8th and 9th would be on the scene within a matter of hours: they were still inbound from Angband.

Fighter bases across the country were raised to alert as squadron after squadron of Imperial fightercraft filled the skies all over Dor Daedoloth, many of them racing upwards to intercept the incoming force, which the officers were confident would be destroyed within hours.

Imperial Intel began to sweep sats over key regions, trying to figure out where any Confederacy ground troops might be marshalled.

And on the ground, atrillery station perpared to initiate long-range fire on the advancing Confederacy gravs. THey would pay for their impudence.

[ps: ADK, since you're the one doing the attacking I'll let you make the first post of the 'actual' OMG BATTLE and all that good stuff. I haven't made any real attacks in this post or anything, it's all just tactical maneuvering on my end at this point.]

OOC: Fuck. Of all things I need to respond to this.... If I can remember anything about what I was going to do now.....

IC:

A wall of point defense destroyers fired into the hail of heavy fusion missiles that came their way. The Hard-hitting Gravity Destroyers moved in, supported by Upholder and [/i]Upholder II[/i] class gunships and gunbaots. Missile destroyers fired salvo after salvo of plasma missiles at the withdrawing Melkorian gravships. Then the MD's gave a salvo of missiles with hypersonic warheads, fifty of them...

Fighters danced about engaging enemy fighters and harrasing the Melkorian vessels. Other ships that weren't providing defense or fire support also harrassed the Melkorian ships.

Dreadnaughts and crusiers moved in orbit, firing their heavy assualt lasers and plasma cannons at the Ardan defenses on the ground....

OOC: Fucking good enough for you? Let's just get this over with... IThis is the second loose cannon I've got to tie up... That makes one for ADKM and one for ADK then I can forget about it and come bakc and kick some ass -.-

Cortana sighed as she watched the images come in from the satellite feed. They're at it again. Do they ever learn? Apparently not. Of course, that should be obvious from what we've seen on Mercury IV, I suppose. Different race, but the same root society. Crazy. On the other hand, anything that costs Melkor without costing us can't be that bad. I just hope those crazies at least do some damage before they get swatted like so many insects. She left a small part of herself monitoring the situation, and sent an alert to the Fleet to steer clear of the combat zone.
