Little help pls. (Airforce)
I'm working on my airforce composition.
However, I'm lacking the basic outline or definitions required. Can't seem to find it online either.
How is an airforce organized?
Flight, Squad, Group, Wing...?
Cheers,
W.

Ok, just had a long chat with a really nice guy at RAF Kinloss. Your structure is like this:
Smallest unit is a Flight.
2 or 3 Flights make up a Squadron which "lives" on a Station (eg Kinloss)
Around 3 Squadrons make up a Unit, also sometimes called a Wing.
Several Stations put together make up a Group - they are put together by role not geopgraphy - ie fighter goes with fighter and surveillance with surveillance regardless of where in the country they're based.
Above Group is Command - but I think from what he said that that's just "the Bosses" not a flying unit at all
Hope this helps, it was fun finding out!
I think I found it - though I had to pull it together from several sources - for the reference of others then...
Air Combat Command
Wing
Group
Squad
Flight
