First Republican Vows to Fight Taxes
The First Republican today announced that he is seeking a comprehensive plan to cut government waste and reduce taxes. The First Republican and the Minister of Economics are scheduled for week-long talks to identify government waste and to come up with a plan to increase efficency and reduce the tax burden on the citizens of Ilek-Vaad.
"Our current tax rate averages 47%. That is the highest rate in history. The sound economic planning of the former government has left us with budget surplus in the trillions of Drachmas and there is no reason to continue with such exhorbitant tax rates." said the First Republican.
Opposition members of the Republican Council warned against cutting necessary expenditures. "We must remember that we have an obligation to meet on many fronts. The governments income must be spread over many different areas, and we should make sure that we don't confuse waste with necessary spending." said the Minister of Education "We have one of the best educational systems in the world and it is that way because of our commitment to spend the necessary funds."
In other news it was announced that Sir Ilem Arden, Chief ofv Staff to the First Republican had sucessfully negotiated and signed a treaty that would found an internatioanl council for mediating conflicts. The talks were hosted in Lavenrunz and was attended by several nations including ,Knootoss, Tanah Burung, The Most Glorious Hack, Effrenata and Der Angst. Talks at the conference that were earlier stalled were pushed ahead with help from Sir Ilem and will be concluded shortly with the formation of the council for international mediation. Sir Ilem was not yet available for comment yet.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs announced that her office was exploring the possibility of opening embassies in Tanah Burung and Lavenrunz. "We are studying if closer relationships with these nations is in the best interest of the Free Republic. We are also exploring who may be assigned as ambassadors in the event that we move ahead with installing embassies in Lavenrunz and/or Tanah Burung."
