Basic Description:
The Celdr Empire of the Golden Lands is an equatorial nation roughly crescent-shaped in the region of Daile Bharan in the continent of Emerald Heights. The eastern borders of the country are marked by a mountain range extending from the southern border to the northern, where it curves around into the sea in line with a small island chain. The western borders are marked by an arc between the northern and southern tips of the crescent and passing through the island of Tarath Coraé. The western shores are adored with fjords almost along their entire length, with one particularly large fjord extending several hundred kilometers inland with several smaller branches near the equator. The center of the nation is dominated by savanna and grassland dotted with patches of tropical and subtropical forest, with mostly scrubland to the north fading into evergreen forests in the mountains, and an extensive rainforest and desert to the south.
The People:
The population of Eniqcir is divided almost evenly between Celdr and Scyldr, with a significant minority of Serik integrated into both sections. A small population of technologically primitive Kolipoki inhabit the rainforests and a few small islands. Approximately 45% of the population sports artificial enhancements of some kind, the vast majority being rectification of genetic defects, including such things as artificial hearts, artificial hippocampi, artificial livers, artificial lungs, cochlear implants, artificial eyes wired to the visual cortex, etc. A small fraction of the augmented population, however, have more obvious and/or extensive bodily modifications, including ocular implants, titanium-osteointegration, etc. As with most techneurgical societies, there are the select few who choose to go all-out with medically unnecessary equipment such as sensoria brainjacks, but these consititute less than one half of one percent of the augmented population. There are 62 known Gosseyns in Eniqciri and all of its colonies, and there are rumors but no confirmed cases of remote viewing ability. Approximately 1.5% of the population may or may not be composed of so-called "Living Computers", artificial lifeforms displaying most properties of biologicals but employing microbots as their primary unit of structure as opposed to biological cells.
Flora and Fauna:
Antelope and other quadrupedal grazers grace the grasslands, accompanied by the occasional tiger, leopard, or coyote. Several species of tortoise and armadillo are to be found in the southern grasslands, along with gigantic colonies of termites (mostly confined to farms nowodays), while hares, foxes, and assorted sidewinder and diamondback snakes are up north. Red Hawks can be found nearly anywhere, and are the Empire's national symbol. Golden Dragons and Marine Iguanas grace the islands of the Pheí Lunaé as well as the coastal regions of the rainforests. The deeper rainforests are home to tamarins, giant sloths, giant dragonflies, pythons, jaguars, crocodiles, manatees, numerous species of parrots, Birds of Paradise, Morpheus Butterflies, Neon Butterflies, Opal Beetles, Kapok, Paddle Trees, Cacao, and uncountable other interesting pants und aminals. TIGER has recently begun releasing Troodon erectus specimens into the savanna, but these are confined to carefully controlled reserves.
Industry and Commerce: IT and cosmic mining are major industries, with nanofabrication and optoelectronics in the lead for exports. Imports consist mostly of food.
Culture:
The general citizen lives his life expecting Technosingularity to hit at any moment, and so, while it has yet to actually happen, go about their lives prepared for just about anything as you never know when your wolrd might get turned upside down six times before breakfast. While generally friendly, certain provinces of primarily Scyldr or Celdr population may display muted hostility towards those of the other descent, and interracial tensions have been slowly rising in recent years. Though Joe Average appears to dress as any normal first worlder, closer inspection reveals self-cleaning nanotechnology, extensive wearable computing and augmented reality equipment... The Feudal class, on the other hand, while still making use of all the same technological conveniences, usually employs a more archaic style, though the specifics are wholly dependant on the individual Province and House. Prisons are nearly nonexistant, mostly because most Eniqciri abhor the idea of spending valuable money to keep lawbreakers alive and healthy- consequently, forced labor camps keep production prices down, keep the economy up, and keep the prison population below average. In addition, although the death penalty is not applied often, when it is Eniqciri like to squeze as much usefulness as possible out of their criminals, by running the bodies through thermal depolymerization machines to reclaim oils, sugars, minerals, and, most importantly for space colonies, water. Although most of soceity has become thoroughly modernized, there are still two hold-pvers to the far past-
1. The Laws of Vendetta. If any two persons or Great Houses have an official state of vendetta between them, obtained by one party taking an oath of vendetta against the other followed by the acceptance of that oath by the second party recognized by their Lord, or in the case of Great Houses the High Steward, the two shall be entitled to a duel to the death or any other point agreed to by the two parties in any manner of their choosing without outside interference, so long as the events of that duel do not cause ill effect on noncombatants. Any willfull or negligent damage to outside parties will result in dissolution of the vendetta and official trial of the offender by the highest appropriate office, as will any attempt to gain an unfair advantage by calling in a third party not listed in the original oath or acceptance of vendetta or agreed to by both parties.
2. In the case of a civil war between Great Houses, national armed forces in the control of the involved Houses will be placed under the temporary stewardship of (a) neutral part(y)(ies). Warfare will from then on be conducted entirely with House Guardsmen and militia forces and in the ancestral style.
