Three Palantir, One by Magic, Two by Machine

Palantir,
1. One of the seeing stones, used by the Numenoreans, Gondorians and Sauron in the Second and Third ages
2. Codename for the most ambitions code breaking project in Thelasi history

Empress Ithenril stood at the top office in the Thelasi Governmental Building, in truth, the massive building of metallic crystal is much more than many people thought. Oh yes, it is the center of Thelas’ civilian and military operations, and it was the home of Thelas’ leaders. But it is more than that, a tower, a massive crystal tower stretching up into the sky. It was a mage tower more than anything else. All around Thelas, there were six towers, one here in the North West, one in the North, one in the North East, one in the South West, one in the South East, and then one in the Center. Each of these corresponded to an element, Fire, Water/Air, Earth, Light, Darkness, Cosmos. Here Ithenril stood at the top of the Tower of Air, the second tallest, truly the tallest was the Tower of Cosmos, where no one resided. Not since the death of Theallas had a soul set foot in that massive tower, yet it still focused the power of all six, then sending that combined force back to the Tower of Wind.

Ithenril stood in the top room, a magic field kept it safe from the elements, while still giving Ithenril full visibility. Here Ithenril liked to sit, for hours, focusing her power through her staff, exploring the worlds. Yet now, it was time.

Two other mages brought up a round bundle, wrapped in cloth, and set it upon a pillar, of that crystalline metal that composed the tower itself. Ithenril gestured the mages to leave, and they did, leaving the bundle on the pedestal, Now, let us see if I can do this. Ithenril reached out, taking the cover from the stone, revealing a black orb, slowly Ithenril reached out, placing her hands mere centimeters from the globe. She closed her eyes, letting her awareness reach out. In the other Palantir, a presence was felt, the master Palantir had been found, and it saw.

Underneath that same building another project was going on. Row upon row of computers, the best in Thelas, sat turning away, 3-D data storage pods ramped up, and readied themselves. Standing among the scientists was Commander Kentherin, overseeing the process, “So tell me, how many computers are we using?”

One of the researchers looked at the Force Commander, “Well, over 40 EA level computers and about 300 lesser computers at this facility alone” Kentherin whistled, “And at the other five?” “Combined, over 200 EA level computers, and around 2000 lesser ones” “Amazing, all networked?” “Yes Sir, through land cable lines, highly protected” “Good, now explain to me again what is going on?”

“Well Sir, these computers are part of Project Palantir, named after the ancient…” “Yes I know, I have been asked about this by the Empress, why are we spending money on this?” “Well Sir, we have loaded every code we ever cracked, every code-book we ever received onto these computers. Codes from the start of Thelas to now, simple number replacement codes, to the thousands of One Time pads that were used during the Shadow War. All loaded onto these computers.” “And this will help us how?” “Well Sir, this should help us with code breaking. These machines should be able to cut the time it takes to crack codes in half, at least.” “Interesting, and as each new code is cracked, or as we get the code books through alliances…” “Yes Sir, they will be added” “Excellent, truly Excellent.”

OOC: You would think that some one would OOCly have some imput, I mean even if you call me godmodder, please.

This will be followed up tomorrow by the deployment of Project Dragnet.

OOC: Two palantir or three?

Dragnet,
1. A police operation, cutting off all escape routes from the scene of a crime to catch the criminals.
2. A fishing net, dragged behind the trawler on the ocean floor, made to catch anything and everything caught inside it
3. A code name for a Thelasi Military Intelligence operation to catch any radio, or other, broadcasts possible

Kentherin stood quietly, standing at the Thelasi Fleet Command Operations Center. Standing around him were the best of commanders in TMI, each of them knew why they were here, it had to do with Project Palantir, now that that operation was complete, it was time to deploy operation Dragnet.

Kentherin turned to the lead commander, “So, why am I here?”

“Well Sir, it is simple. We now have the most advanced code breaking technology I have seen, but with out intercepts, Palantir is useless. Because of that, we are implementing operation Dragnet, to “catch” these transmissions.”

“So how does Dragnet work?”

“Simply, we use a combination of High flying Aircraft, satellites, and long range probes.”

”So we have the satellites in place, the grav-craft are flying, and the probes?”

“The probes Sir are why we are here, TMI frigates are deploying them now. We are also launching them from Sairi Cuori, with in two days, operation Dragnet will be go for operation”

“Good work, you get to keep your job.”

And so, two days later, the probes, all in position, dotting the solar system, and outer-system space, came alive, relaying their gathered data back to the Sairi Cuori, and then from there, back to Earth, for decoding by Operation Palantir

ooc: How about we do it like the old Soviets, use constantly changing codes, not one code is used twice or more. Makes it impossible to decode. ;)

Wow, this is one large quote pyramid! Even some Thelasian code-cracking machiny thing could never decypher this! Why am I using so many exlamation marks! I got an idea! If all of our sensitive information could be translated into OOC, then there would be no way to crack the codes because the codes and the information wouldn't even exist!
