Duke Paolio retires after heart attack

Yesterday afternoon, Duke Paolio Gaspar de Albion y Obregon announced his retirement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry. He collapsed as he was leaving his office last January, struck by a heart attack doctors first thought to be relatively minor, but later said was "massive." He was rushed by his chauffer to Nuestra SeƱora de Merced Hospital in downtown Cielo D'Orado.
This morning, the Crown appointed UnderMinister Alejandro de la Basca to take his place as Minister. Duke Paolio said he plans to retire to his family farm, an hacienda covering several thousand acres, to concentrate on raising livestock.

Minister hospitalized after heart attack

Duke Paolio, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was admitted to Nuestra Senora de Merced hospital in Cielo D'Orado last night after suffering what doctors are calling a minor heart attack. Sources close to the Duke say he has been under extreme pressure lately from his duties to the Crown. Dr. Javier Tancredo, the hospital's chief Cardiac Surgeon, says it is too early yet to make any sort of long-range prognosis, but he is optimistic the Duke will make a strong recovery. In the meantime, UnderMinister Charles MacCampbell is taking over the Duke's responsibilities.
