The maiden voyage of the Excursion class. (Closed RP.)

XAS-317 is the newly commissioned starship that is the first to bear the Excursion name. The Xanthalian government has extended an open invitation to the international community to send delegates to join the crew of XAS-317, the newest and most advanced ship in the Xanthalian fleet, on its maiden voyage to explore Galaxy 497, an as yet uncharted and unexplored galaxy that lies approximately fifty million light-years from our own. The voyage will take approximately five years round-trip, so nations are encouraged to send delegates they are willing to part with for a while. Also, the international community is reminded that this is a premier mission of a new and largely untested ship into unknown space. The safety of your delegates cannot be assured by Xanthal. Even so, the mission promises rewards beyond all imagination if it is successful. Only two foreign delegates may come aboard for the mission, the Xanthalian government will pick which two if more than two apply to join.

XAS-317: Excursion class (ultra-heavy general purpose): $30,000,000,000,000
The Excursion class is a ship primarily designed to explore far from Xanthalian space on its own. It has exceptionally strong defensive ability and carries all manner of crew and systems aboard, enabling it to function much like an independent Xanthalian government and deal with any new situations or species it encounters along its way. It carries sixteen other starships internally, along with shuttles and slipfighters. This is the most able and advanced starship in the Xanthalian fleet.

OOC: Tag for intrest but I have no idea why the Var would join this exploration. Wait I could have a disgraced Var Lord and his servant on board? If you don't mind having an eight foot tall lizards as voyage companions.
(The Var are a non-terran race, arrived on the planet after their civilization collapsed into a horrific civil war.)

And that sure as hell isn't a starship. It's a station. And don't give me any bullshit about making it move. It's four trillion cubic meters for God's sake. (I don't give a damn if you DO claim to be able to move a 5,000 km starship, you [expletive deleted for the protection of the sheltered])

The Lords of War: I would welcome you aboard if you are a good RPer who would stick with the thread in the long-term. Xanthalians are very accepting, they wouldn't be put-off by appearances.

OOC: Hmm, well I'm willing to try and keep a good Rp quality. I likely won't be able to post a massive amount though...(slow but steady might be the best phrase on that)
However the pace of the war I'm involved has slowed considerably due to RL life of the oppostion. And I'd say one of the threads I'm presently involved in appears to have died...

I wouldn't drop the thread unless things get so damn confusing with so many characters that the whole point of the thread becomes lost. Then I attempt to bow out gracefully, but that is unlikely with the rules you have set up.

OOC: Well, I always say that RPs don't necessarily have to interfere with one another since the NS temporal flow is variable. Anyway, yes, you will be taken into consideration as a potential joiner of this RP.

OOC:Hey Xanthal remember me? I think I will join this RP, because I have always considered you a friend, in a way. Even if I did give away secrets about your mimic class ships. Anyway I think I will go with a non-terran race also. The Beashens, kind of like Wookies, but a rounder head, and a tail that splits into two at the end, also some humans, and I could always go with a good robot. So give me a post if you want me to join.
Also Guaynu, get fucking over it.

OOC: I was impressed with what I saw from you in our RP together. You will also be taken into considration. I will give this thread until tomorrow to get more nominees, then I will start.

I am already involved in a RP involving a powerful ship (superweapon) of my nation's (and Super American VX Man's). It's the A Scream in Space RP. However, I realize the stupidity of the comment and I realized that I should get involved in this RP anways.

Sorry LRR, too late.

IC: The Xanthalian government, after due consideration of the nominees, has decided to allow the nations of Nanakaland and Shyra to send one delegate apiece. XAS-317 is currently docked at the Than shipyards in the outer Than system. Your delegates are expected to arrive within the next 24 hours.
22-02-2004, 00:47
OOC: Last question before my first IC post here. What stats do you need for this? I'm assuming you'll want names, height, age, weight, etc...?
Xanthal
22-02-2004, 00:50
Shyra: Just give me what you can on your guy/girl. No need to get excessive, but let me know what I'm looking at.

OOC: My character is female, Xanthal. I'm going to assume this ship is in an orbital yard of some sort. I shall begin with my character having just recently entered the ship.

IC: Atho had just now entered the Excursion, and now sought to orient herself properly, for the last thing she wanted was to start this 5-year trip on a bad footing. She had a small belt-pack on the back of her belt with some personall things, and a few essentials. She had never owned very much, hacing only recently been freed from slavery by purchasing freedom. She had been sent by her Government as a show of good will.

Very well Xanthal, if you think it is not fitting for me to join, so be it. I see why Nanakaland should join, but I think that the best place for Shyra to join would be a shorter RP, as you said this one will be long, and I just think shorter is better for a begginer. It is not quite my place to say though, so I shall just suggest it. Nanakaland, I look forward to the future in A Scream in Space, it has been very good so far, in my eyes at least.

She is met by Admiral Dean Hauser, who extends his hand in greeting. "Hello, I'm Dean Hauser, the Captain of XAS-317. Feel free to look around, this ship carries lots of civilians, so assume you're authorized to enter anyplace that's not locked. Please follow the orders of commissioned Xanthalian officers if they give you any though."

Wow, one year after the design has been approved and you're already setting out on the maiden voyage? That must be a new world record. *Cough cough*
Xanthal
22-02-2004, 05:48
Foe Hammer: Six years. Why?
22-02-2004, 06:45
OOC: I'm not some kind of imbecile here Techon. I have got SOME idea of what I'm supposed to do. I've read some previous RPs like this. Xanthal. I'm assuming Hauser is a Human. If he is not Human, just let me know please.

IC: Atho reached out with one hand to shake hands with Hauser. She had to remind herself to be cautious, as the last time she'd done this with a Human she'd crushed the poor gentlemans hand by mistake "Good day to you Captain Hauser. I'm Atho Zhen, and it's good to meet you" She then released his hand quickly.

OOC: One more thing to those in this RP. I'm open to ideas and suggestions in here. Romantic developments, intrigue, mystery, stuff like that. If you guys have an idea I'm willing to try it most likely.
Xanthal
22-02-2004, 06:58
OOC: Unless I say otherwise, you can assume everyone is Xanthalian. Over 95% of our population is. Don't worry though, they don't look too different from Humans. Don't ask me for specifics though, to tell you the truth I never actually decided what they look like. Oh, one thing I do know... They have a bit of an exoskeleton in addition to their bone structure (a product of their Thanic genes). They are still tan in color though.

IC: The Captain smiles and nods. "I suggest you familiarize yourself with the ship. The EI will help you find your way around if you need it. You'll be here a while, so you might as well know where everything is. This ship has one thousand decks and each deck is an average of fifteen million square meters in size, so only bother to look at the interesting things. If I were you I'd start at the fore and work your way aft."
Foe Hammer
22-02-2004, 07:07
Foe Hammer: Six years. Why?

You announced the approval for your design on February 20th. You posted the maiden voyage thread Feb. 21st. Do you plan to cruise the galaxy on a sheet of steel with a few not-even-half-finished thrusters slapped on the back?
Xanthal
22-02-2004, 07:13
Foe Hammer: Six years have passed since the plans were approved. Time in NS is not linear, and depending on the course of events I make each day somewhere between 1 NS hour and 100 NS years.
23-02-2004, 03:29
IC: "Of course Captain. I'll take that advice, I think"
Xanthal
23-02-2004, 03:35
The captain nods her off through the nearby turbolift doors.
23-02-2004, 04:30
IC: Atho walked through the doors, and looked around "Never used a turbolift before" she said as the doors closed.
Xanthal
23-02-2004, 16:11
"I'll be glad to help you." Says a voice from a speaker on the ceiling. "I am the ship's Electronic Intelligence. I have no name yet, but you can call me Ship in the mean time. Where would you like to go?"
24-02-2004, 05:53
IC: "Not sure" Atho said, all the while feeling very odd about talking to a Starship "Captain Hauser just motioned me in here after suggesting I go from fore to aft for a quick look-around"
Xanthal
24-02-2004, 16:15
"So you'll be heading to the starship docking bays then. Very well." The lift begins moving down, then moves sideways. It travels at about a hundred kilometers per hour, but the inertial dampers prevent any jolts to the passenger.
25-02-2004, 03:57
IC: "Funny" Atho said to herself, as the turbolift moved along its way "I'm the first Shyran ever to leave Earth. Very nice"
Xanthal
25-02-2004, 15:40
"Well, if I may be so bold, you picked an excellent ship. What is your name?"
25-02-2004, 17:43
IC: "Atho Zhen" she replied simply "Former slave. Which makes this even more thrilling"
Xanthal
25-02-2004, 19:25
"Slave? That's unfortunate. Ah well, you can't change the past I suppose. Ah, here we are!" The doors open, revealing a small lobby with a window covering all of the opposite wall looking out on the Andromeda class starship docked within. "Magnificent, isn't it? This is only one of twelve starships I have docked internally. They are my extentions. My arms and legs, if you will. My crew could be metaphorically described as my fingers and toes. I support everyone, but without them I'm largely useless. Without me to support them, they would die. That is why everyone here has trained to work as one together, computers and organics alike. We are at our best only together. Would you like to go aboard the Andromeda and look around there for a while?"
Xanthal

OOC: For your refrence, a layout of the ships that compose the Xanthalian fleet (not including the Excursion class, since those specs. are on the first post).

Xanthalian spacecraft:

General purpose:

Intrepid class (light general purpose): $100,000,000,000
A light, versatile vessel; the Intrepid class boasts a great deal of the tactical and subsystem capability available in larger vessels without the immense drain on personnel and resources. The loss of space and resources inherant in the compact design means that for some non-combat missions the larger Andromeda class is a preferable choice.

Andromeda class (heavy general purpose): $500,000,000,000
The Andromeda class is designed as an all-purpose vessel. Moderately well-armed but oversized and difficult to maneuver, it usually fights only when it can't run. The Andromeda class boasts a highly advanced sensor array, a large and diverse crew, and a variety of subsystems to get almost any job done.

Combat:

Slipfighter class (one man fighter): $500,000
A small, one man fighter with unmatched agility and burning fast speed. The Slipfighter is armed with two multiphasic disrupter banks and two cluster missiles but, due to space constraints, has only type I shields. Used to combat other fighters or in swarms to defeat larger ships. A varient of the Slipfighter is also used as a planetary police vessel by the Ministry of Justice.

Sabre class (light tactical): $100,000,000,000
The Sabre class is designed to pack a strong punch in a small package. The Sabre class has only a few torpedo tubes due to space constraints; but it has many phaser and disrupter banks. Its shields are of mediocre quality, so the Sabre class cannot withstand a sustained assault. It uses great speed and maneuverability coupled with its small size to dodge attacks while firing its powerful weapons. An unimpressive warship on its own, the Sabre class can do enormous damage when in fleets.

Dreadnaught class (medium tactical): $1,000,000,000,000
The Dreadnaught class is designed primarily for ship-to-ship combat. It houses a vast array of standard weaponry as well as a midsize ion/plasma cannon. Despite its large size, the Dreadnaught is still highly maneuverable. It is protected by double shields and strong armor. A match for almost any opponent, the Dreadnaught class can even do significant damage to a capital ship or starbase on its own.

Super Dreadnaught class (heavy tactical): $2,000,000,000,000
An enlarged, modified Dreadnaught class, the Super Dreadnaught sacrifices maneuverability for increased firepower, better defenses, and higher capacity for slipfighters. The Super Dreadnaught has a massive weapons load, and hardly ever needs resupply.

Eclipse class (ultra-heavy tactical): $10,000,000,000,000
The Eclipse class is based off of the Imperial Star Destroyer class of the same name. It is massive, bigger than most starbases, but still relatively mobile. It's assault weapon power is unmatched, and it can take on most super-capital ships easily. It's size means that it is vulnerable to large numbers of smaller warships, so it is always escorted by other Xanthalian vessels. Adequately supported it can defeat entire fleets of enemy warships. Used mostly as a weapon of intimidation by the Armada.

The turbolift doors close and it decends briefly before the doors open into a well-lit, wide corridor. "At the end of this corridor is an airlock. Enter it and you'll be inside the Andromeda. Don't dawdle too long though, lots more to see."
26-02-2004, 06:18
IC: Atho allmost giggled at the Ships' apparent spunk. And moved through the airlock into the other ship.

Atho finds herself in a long corridor, with doors lining the inside and windows lining the outside.

"I'll hand you over to the Andromeda's AI while you're inside. It's her ship, after all." The familiar light and friendly male voice is replaced by a female tone. "Greetings. Welcome to XAS-317-01. I am an Andromeda class starship built specifically for travelling with XAS-317. Please feel free to look around and associate with the crew. If you need directions, do not hesitate to ask."

Nanakaland: OOC: We haven't left port yet, thanks to your tardiness. Are you gonna show up or not?

Shyra: IC: "Well, where do you want to go? The Excursion EI told me not to keep you long, so I recommend you take the quick tour. Engineering is to your right. Go through the turbolift door you come to."
28-02-2004, 01:52
A lone shuttle went to the ship. The man onboard the shuttle sent a broadcast.

"This is the Nanakaland representative," he said. "Sorry for my lateness, but no faster ships were avalible at the time."
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 01:54
"Not a problem. In a mission slated to last five years, a few hours isn't a whole lot. Will you want to dock with the ship directly, or with the station?"
28-02-2004, 01:56
"I would like to dock directly," the representative replied.
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 02:13

The shuttle docked as told.

The shuttlebay is very large, housing several dozen small Xanthalian shuttles as well as the Nanakaland shuttle. The large outer doors close behind the shuttle as it sets down, and several Xanthalian workers can be seen moving in and around the Xanthalian shuttles. All of them give the newcomer a wide berth though, no one wants to be squashed. The entire bay is constantly pressurized thanks to the forcefield overlaying the doors. The captain waits patiently on the side of the bay for his guest to emerge.

The Nanakan representative climbed out of his shuttle. He was tall, with a muscular build. He had black hair and brown eyes. "Hello," the representative said. "My name is Thomas Anderson."
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 04:37
The captain bows in traditional Xanthalian greeting, then extends his hand. "Admiral Dean Hauser. I'm the commanding officer of this starship. That technically makes me a captain, but the guys upstairs thought that to preserve the chain of command in a starship that holds other starships, the commander of the mothership should be an Admiral. So, here I am. What's your story? How did you get picked for a five year vacation into the unknown? Caused your government a spot of trouble, or are you just thirsty for adventure?"
28-02-2004, 04:40
"I'm a Nanakan marine," Thomas Anderson replied shaking hands with the admiral. "Or I was. I was a bit disobedient and was sentenced for five years in jail. My crime wasn't that bad, though, so I convinced the judge to give me this position instead."
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 04:41
"That's the spirit. Being a marine I suppose you wouldn't be interested in a tour?"

Shyra: IC: "Well, where do you want to go? The Excursion EI told me not to keep you long, so I recommend you take the quick tour. Engineering is to your right. Go through the turbolift door you come to."

Atho did what she was told, and moved through the turnolift.

The lift takes her directly to engineering. The area is fully staffed, but mostly quiet since the ship is docked. The room is large, and there are many consoles on the floor and in the walls. Engineering has three levels, but most of the activity is here on the ground floor. Through the center of engineering, running up and down through the floor and ceiling in an enclosed cylinder, is the Ship's power core, the Infinate Energy Core. It glows with all the colors of the rainbow, shining through it's clear exterior and forcefield reinforcement. Running along the ceiling is a similar-looking cylindrical core, this one narrower and glowing with a faint green light. A few crewmembers nod politely at the visitor, looking up from their work briefly before continuing their duties.
28-02-2004, 05:03
"Like you said, I don't need a tour," Anderson said. "I don't care about impressive ship interiors."
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 05:06
"Very good, very good. Okay, I'll show you to your quarters and then you can decide whether you want to accompany me to the command center."
28-02-2004, 05:10
"Thank you," Anderson replied, remembering to be kind to his hosts.
28-02-2004, 05:21
IC: Atho walked around slowly, remembering not to touch anything. She simply admired her surroundings.
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 05:25
Nanakaland: The admiral leads his charge qickly and quietly through the halls, into a turbolift, down ten levels, through some more hallways, and up to a set of doors which open into living quarters of a comfortable, but not luxurious, nature. The main room has a few chairs, a replicator, a table, and a computer access terminal, as well as a stunning view of space. Well, it would have a stunning view of space. For now it provides a not-quite-as-stunning view of the stardock outer wall. Off to the left is a small bedroom with a queen size bed and another chair. To the right is a bathroom, with a sonic shower, sink and mirror (behind which are various hygene products), and, of course, a toilet. The admiral steps inside. "Ship, register these guest quarters please."
The soft male voice of the ship's EI comes over the speakers of the room. "Please state the name of the occupant."
"Thomas Anderson. Register him as a guest crewmember as well. No specific position or rank."
"Registered. Scanning crewmember... Scan complete. Thomas Anderson registered as a guest crewmember."
Dean smiles. "Well then, now that that's finished, would you like to see the bridge?"
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 05:26
Shyra: After a few minutes, the AI gently prods her verbally. "Are you ready to move on to the bridge?"
28-02-2004, 05:26
"Yes," Anderson said to the admiral. "I'd be very happy to see the bridge."
28-02-2004, 05:27
IC: Athos' head jerked up straight "Yeah. Sure"
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 05:46
Shyra: After a quick transit by turbolift, Athos is delivered to the bridge. The ship captain, a slight-looking Xanthalian woman, bows in the direction of the visitor. The Andromeda's bridge is spacious, and is staffed by about a dozen crewmembers. It is well lit, with a viewscreen at the front (currently displaying a general system readout) and consoles spread about in a semicircle on the floor and on the walls. Again, the activity level is minimal due to the fact that the ship is docked. The captain makes her way up to Athos. "Greetings. Do you need anything, or are you just looking?"

Nanakaland: Anderson is led on a considerably longer journey, but eventually reaches the ship's command center, the bridge, with the captain. It is not unlike the bridge of the Andromeda being shown to Athos at the same time, but is on a much grander scale, housing upwards of fifty individual crew stations and staffed by about thirty crewmembers at the time. This bridge though, unlike the one Athos is on, is in a flurry of activity. The area is dimly lit, and red alert lights flash coupled with sirens. On the viewscreen ten unidentified enemy warships can be seen attacking the Excursion class ship viciously. The bridge crew runs to and fro as they manipulate the ship's systems with the EI's help to combat their foe. The captain steps out of the turbolift and stands complacently against the back wall, watching the action. The Lieutenant at tactical shouts out over the bridge. "Primary shields are down to ten percent! These ships are stronger than anything I've ever seen before! It's like we're fighting them with peashooters!"
The first officer, an attractive young captain, shouts back. "Remodulate the inner shield layers to be more effective against their weapons! Target the infinity plasma cannon, tie in ion burst!"
28-02-2004, 05:51
IC: "I'm just looking" Atho said, as her fists tightened involuntarily. A life of slavery had made her wary of people who started questioning her.
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 06:00
The captain nods politely and returns to her seat.

28-02-2004, 06:19
After a while, the ship's AI calls to her. "You'd better get back to the main ship. They'll be launching soon, you wouldn't want to miss it."
28-02-2004, 06:21
IC: Atho thanked the AI quickly and made her way back to the primary ship as fast as she could without running. nce there, however, she wasn't able to get around to quickly, for the simple reason she didn't know the ship very well.
Xanthal
28-02-2004, 18:58
Luckily the EI is there to help. "Welcome back. Did you enjoy your tour of the Andromeda?"
28-02-2004, 21:44

29-02-2004, 01:06
IC: Atho smiled, and walked quickly to the turbolift. She entered it silently, and was struck by a giddy excitement. She hat to stop herself from giggling.
29-02-2004, 01:32
Anderson smiled as he looked around the bridge. There was only one other ship that he could compare to it - the United Grand Celestial Glory, built by Super American VX Man and Nanakaland. This was the year of grand ships!

Shyra: The EI remarks on her behavior as the turbolift makes its way to the bridge. "I'm glad you're having fun."

Nanakaland: The intercom sounds. "This is station control. Are you all set over there?"
The first officer opens her mouth to speak, but the Admiral silences her with a hand on her shoulder. "Okay people, time to come back to reality. Ship, end the combat simulation."
The EI responds. "Simulation ended." The viewscreen switches to an outside view, and the bridge lighting comes on to full as the red alert lights and sirens cease. The Admiral smiles.
"We're ready over here control."
"Okay, you run your final checks. Give the word when you're ready to shove off."
"That's affirmed." Dean closes the channel. "I'll have my chair back now Captain."
The first officer salutes and moves over into her chair. The Admiral takes the captain's seat. "Ship, where is Miss Zhen?"

All together now!: The turbolift doors open, allowing Atho onto the bridge. The Admiral looks around. "Ah. That answers my question then. All stations, prepare for departure."

"Acknowledged XAS-317. Releasing airlocks and moorings now." A few clanks and shudders can be heard softly as hundreds of umbilicals connecting the ship to the station release their hold on the gargantuan vessel. The helm officer reports.

The ship glides gracefully out of the skeletal structure that it was assembled in. "XAS-317, you have cleared stardock. You are free to maneuver. You have priority clearance, but traffic control wasn't happy about it. I suggest you mosey on out of the system."
The Admiral chuckles. "Affirmative. Good day." He closes the channel and turns to an officer that appears at first glance to be Xanthalian, but on closer examination is revealed as a robot. "Pilot, are you prepared for the stream to our destination?"
The android looks at his commanding officer. "Affirmative. I will be switching off with one of my counterparts at the end of the day, but all systems are nominal."
"Splendid. Get ready then, we'll be going to level nine subspace as soon as we reach the edge of the system."
"Yes Sir." The android walks to a seat apart from the rest, in the forward center of the bridge. He sits and data ports open on his body. Wires spring from the seat and connect to the ports. A visor drops over his eyes, and two joysticks extend to meet his hands. It is quite a sight. "Ready for maximum speed."
"Stand by."
29-03-2004, 23:19
Thomas Anderson suddenly got a phone call. He looked down at his phone and picked it up.
