TNW Emergency Press Bulletin.

VIGVAR, MONDAY - Talks were held between His Highness, Grand Duke of Tarasovka Mikhail II Shakhovskoy and Her Highness, Archduchess of Tarasovka Anastasya Shakhovskaya in Vigvar. This initiative was made possible thanks to the His Highness, Honor Grand Duke of Tarasovka Mikhail I Shakhovskoy. The Archduchess has flown into Vigvar with guaranteed safety and her father's word of honour that no harm would come to her.

During the talks, the Archduchess demanded the resignation of her brother in her favour. His Highess the Grand Duke was ready to make several consessions, such as allowing the Archduchess to have a semi-autonomous fiefdom under her rule, in return she would recognize her brother as a symbolic leader above her. After a day of talks, the Archduchess left the Winter Palace, infuriated. The Palace Press Secretary informed the TNW that the talks failed.

Today, the High Council of Duchy has declared all of the Taraskovyan Aphyr 'Information Exclusion Zone'. All foreign or domestic craft entering the IEZ without proper authorization will be dealt with by the TNDF. This step comes amindst a highetened state of insecurity through out the Grand Duchy. Already rumours circulate about a possible evacuation of the civilian population from the loyalist provnices of Aphyr. Polls indicate that 67% of Taraskovyans believe that a conflict is imminent. His Highness, Grand Duke of Tarasovka has made an address to the nation today in which he reassured the people that the governement was studying every possibility of a peaceful resolution to the tensions and that he, as Shokath-Kshas of the Kin will not allow a fratricide war to happen.

It is still unclear as to what military assets do the rebellous territories control, but rumours circulate that around 300.000 TNDF officers and servicemen have defected to the rebellion.

Earlier today, a document signed by both a unanimous Daiamid Council and Council herself was received by the Kiithid families living in the Grand Duchy. The document contained an urgent warning to all TVC citizens and descendants to leave the region of Aphyr as soon as possible. A personal addendum from Council informed the kiithid members that they will be compensated for any material losses from assets that they are forced to leave behind and that are found destroyed or damaged upon return.

Political analists see the evacuation of Aphyr as a clear indication that TVC will side with the Grand Duke in the upcoming conflict. Though official institutions in both GDT and TVC deny that war will break out, there are already rumours spreading about fleet elements and ground forces mobilizing in the north, as well as other military regiments moving to the northern regions from the south of the Corporation's earth territories. Others see this document as a mere precaution, intended to prevent mass loss of life among Corporate denizens of the GDT if war should break out.

Surprisingly little was to be heard from DA, altthough the media was full of discussions. It was clear that the mutual membership in The Pact as well as in the WTE and SFN meant that this events would, and did, influent DA. Greatly.

It was just that the councils ruling DA had (as usual) their differences... Which side they wanted to support, and with what means...

Most DA citizens left the Grand Duchy, as well as the rebel- held territory, however, in both cases, some people stayed... For whatever reasons.

---

The truth was, of course, that certain elements in DA simply... thought different. Clark, as well as Griffith, supported the Grand Duke. Sakurai however, just returned from her trip to GMC, thought different. Despite not having any contacts with Nastya beforehand, merely seeing her for a few moments, she admired her...

"Honourable Archduchess, rightfully Grand Duchess of the Grand Duchy, I want to offer you my help for the future. I admire you, and I know that you are doing what is right, claim what is your rightful place.

However, certain groups in my own nation are already siding with the Grand Duke, and my position is dangerous. My father was killed, and I believe that the people responsible for his death are the same that are now preparing to end your revolution.

However, I will do anything to give you the information you need to fight against the darkness that is trying to oppress you... and me."

~ Sakurai.

---

Despite Sakurai struggling to prevent intervention, Griffith was mobilising, preparing to intervene as soon as necessary. Although He had trouble, with only about thirty combat spaceships and 100 combat naval vessels available... They were way to spread out around the planet, although mobilising them was fairly easy. Airborne forces were easier to get.

One thing that concerned him were the Sisgardian Defences. The rebels most likely had access to them, at leat in their own territory... Which made them basically useless. Not to mention, a danger.

He would have to talk to someone from FTR concerning this problem... He didn´t want rebels using Sisgardian defence systems for their own means.

---

Althena, despite being Clarks, as well as Griffith, enemy, prepared as well. In this particular case, she preferred the Grand Duke to Nastya...

She remembered Knootoss and it`s rather... well, unfortunate results, but it looked like quiet, and fast, operations would be the best...

From: Soldats, DA
Subject: Rebellion

"We have all heard of the recent events, and to be honest, I fear that this might be even more dangerous than it already is, considering the rebels position inside Sisgardia.

While I do not question your ability to work out this internal problem, I would very much like to offer you my help... In securing Information as well as in eliminating possible threats.

Considering our very close ties, this is indeed the least I can offer, and I sincerely hope we can eliminate the threat before it strikes at us."

Vigvar Winter Palace,
Capital City of Vigvar,
Grand Duchy of Tarasovka,
Sisgardia.

The sun was setting slowly outside, its red rays reflected by the bay of Vigvar far below the Palace. The Grand Duke stood facing one of the numerous windows of the Great Library. Ti Library was crafted under the palace, deep inside the cliff on which the Palace stood. Infinite shells stretched through infinitely long and high halls, the very halls themselves being far too many to count. The Grand Duke never managed to visit the entire Library before and neither was he to have an opportunity to do so now. He turned around, back to a long table by which were seated the members of the High Command of the TNDF, along with the Leib-Admiral of the TSF and the head of the TDI.

- Your Highness. All five naval and two submarine fleets have been deployed around Aphyr to endorse the IEZ and blockade the area. We are redeploying the 1st to 6th Ground Armies to the territory we are holding right now.
- Your Highness, the TSF 1st Battlegroup will be recomplemented shortly with reserve units. So far, the 6th Battlegroup is deployed in the Orion Sector guarding the TSC-1. The 2nd is in Martian orbit containing the Confederate space forces. Which leaves us with the 3rd to 5th and the 7th Battlegroups ready to be deployed over the rebellious territories upon order.
- Your Highness, we have received several offers of help incoming from Der Angst, Vortex Corporations and Knootoss…
- Your Highness, the Air Force is ready to begin preliminary strikes upon order…
- Your Highness, we now have confirmation that the former Leib-Marshal as well as the High Councilors for Foreign Affairs and National Security have sided with the rebel side…
- Your Highness, we have detected full scale deployements of the Vortex military along the Cardinian border and certain elements being dropped into Celebrone. We have jammed as best as we could the rebel locators to keep the movement of forces of our allies secret…

The Grand Duke waved his arm in one single motion, causing everyone to stop talking.

- I want extensive jamming of the rebel territories by all means we have. I want the entire TNDF to stand ready. I want the TSF to stand ready. I want the TDI to infiltrate the rebel territory. But I do not want anyone to open fire upon anyone! Do you all know what a civil war would cause? It is purely unimaginable! That is it. Proceed with duties. Councilor Sineglaziev, I have a special task for you.

The military officers stood up and proceeded out of the hall, escorted by the Head Archivist, who was truly worried that the barbarians that only know the language of steel would damage any of the precious works in the Library. The newly appointed High Councilor of Intelligence, the head of the TDI, Leib-Duke Alexander Sineglaziev, a personal friend of the Grand Duke and the ex-chief of the 7th Bureau, remained behind.

- Your Highness?
- I want the area ECTOS’ed. Deploy several druids to the area.
- Yes, Your Highness. Do I have ‘Clearance 1’?
- Yes, proceed.

’Clearance 1’ was synonym for ‘Total Freedom’. Sineglaziev stood up, bowed and directed himself out of the Hall. The Grand Duke stood a little longer gazing at the now fallen night outside, at the sky shining with a billion lights. He directed himself outside when suddenly; his gaze fell on a book by a polish author. ‘Ogniem I Mechiem’. ‘By Fire and Sword’. Mikhail didn’t pay any attention to it, for he knew the roman all too well, and proceeded to exit the Library. He had several answers to give to his allies.

Milady,

I am grateful for your gracious and generous offer but, alas, I must decline it. The situation will be solved soon, the rebellion will be subdued and Sisgardia must not worry. Of course, I do not know if the rebels have contacted anyone from the outside world yet, but I believe that after the TNDF will begin jamming the area, it will be no longer possible for them to contact anyone, but I ask you to forward me any information you have on any possible foreign intervention on the side of the rebellion.

Faithfully Yours,
Mikhail II Shakhovskoy

Most Honourable Friend,

I know that you have witnessed the arrogant and dishonourable behaviour of my dear Sister and my loyal commanders have told me that the Corporation is ready to intervene militarily on my side. I am truly honoured to have such loyal friends and am grateful to you from the very depth of my heart for your support. But yet, as an old friend of the Duchy you must know our customs. I must prove that I am the true leader of my people. I must prove that I am the strongest. I must prove that by my own. The rebels will be subdued shortly and, hopefully, without loss of life and thus, the dear friend of my father, I ask that the Corporation does not intervene into the matters.
I only ask that if the Corporation learns anything of a possible foreign intervention on the side of the rebels, that it informs me immediately.

I hope you will understand and support me.

Forever Yours in Friendship,
Mikhail II Shakhovskoy.

TO: Europolis Contingent Command
FROM: TNDF High Command
SUBJECT: Assistance

The Grand Duchy does not require any military assistance and would only require intelligence support as of learning of any possible foreign intervention on the side of the rebellion.

Thank you for your support.

Honored friend,

It is understandable that you wish to handle matters by yourself. I understand that you need to show your strength and ability to your people. Therefore, our military will remain inside our own borders. No unit will cross our northern border, and none of the elements brought to Celeborne will be deployed before you give your permission. The same goes for the two fleets now assembled above Sisgardia.

Do know that I, and the Corporation and Council with me, fully support your righteous claim to the throne. In the name of your father, your country and your own sovereignty, we hope to see you set things right soon. Until that time, we will remain vigilant and on stand-by, to be ready should the worst case scenario occur. I understand it must be difficult to stand face to face with your own sister. When I look at my son and imagine a similar situation, I doubt whether I would still be able to lead my people in rational matter. Maybe I am getting old, or maybe I love my son too much. But either way, may whatever God is up there walk with you and illuminate your path through the darkness.

Amis dans la vie et la mort,

S. Delendre-S'Jet

--------------------------------
Europolis
Night falls in Sisgardia.
--------------------------------

If some curious visitor had chosen to watch the course of events in the northern island in Sisgardia populated by the Knootians and their Dutch allies, he could have found a convenient and appropriate seat for his observation in a plane, soaring just below one of the thin stretched clouds that were drifting rapidly across the blue sky during all these eventful days before the civil war. Before ECTOS.

For that was the quality of the weather on the island, cold and clear, with something of a breeze, wet and a little inclined to be rainy. This watchman would have looked down upon broad stretches of sunlit green, broken by masses of trees and large areas of silvery weeds, upon white roads lying bare to the sun and upon a tracery of blue canals. The fields were alive with cattle. The roads had a busy traffic, of bicycles and gaily coloured peasants' automobiles. The hues of the motor barges in the canal competed with the eventfulness of the roadways. Everywhere in barns, in groups by the wayside, in a few straggling villages, or the compact town near the base, laced with canals and abounding in bridges and clipped trees, were small human habitations.

The people of this country-side surrounding the Dutch/Knootian base in Sisgardia were not belligerents. The interests and sympathies alike of the many sovereign states in Nederland had been so divided that to the end she nearly always remained undecided and passive in the struggle of the world powers.

And the roads from the navy port to the inland base were taken by the marching soldiers and clustered groups and crowds of impartially observant spectators. Women and children, and elderly, clean-shaven men. The busy caterpillars of infantry, the maggot-like wagons, crawling under the poplars along the roads northward, along ways lined by the neutral, unmolested, ambiguously observant Dutch.

That watcher among the clouds would have seen a great distribution of green-uniformed men and material painted in a plain green in the base. Knootians slowly replacing all their Dutch allies on the island. He would have marked the ships near the small port, packed with men or piled with missiles, creeping slowly along the north-going lines.

In that clear, cold weather, it would all have looked from above like some extravagant festival of animated toys.

As the sun sank westward the spectacle must have become a little indistinct because of a golden haze; everything must have become warmer and more glowing, and because of the lengthening of the shadows more manifestly in relief. The shadows of the tall watchtowers grew longer and longer, until they touched the horizon and mingled in the universal shadow; and then, slow, and soft, and wrapping the world in fold after fold of deepening blue, came the night--the night at first obscurely simple, and then with faint points here and there, and then jewelled in darkling splendour with a hundred thousand lights.

((OOC: Ok… Europolis is now in that little island way up north. And yes, this post had some “inspirational sources” :P))
