After a new law was passed last week allowing the use of referendums to decide on issues of national importance...

------------------------------------

President Chen took his notes and quickly scanned them a final time

Dear fellow citizens of Taiwan. Today, we approach as moment in time which will change forever our identities and foreign relations.

For too long, the Mainland has threatened us with missiles and military exercises.

For too long, our country has existed in the shadow of the Mainland.

Let us end this. Cast your vote for independence. Vote Yes for an independent Taiwan!

Independence will have tragic consequences for the people of the R.O.C., those that conform to Chen are pushing themselves onto the warpath with Sino and other Chinese nations.

We must unite all Chinese-speaking peoples, through peace, or war!

A vote for Chen is a vote against peace!

Peace above all comrades; friendship, not bullets, we beg of you.

If these separatists (bastardized by Japanese blood) beg for peace, then perhaps they should reconsider their views towards the unification of China. One China, two systems. Certainly not one China and one Taiwan.

Chen should learn to sort his sh*t out and talk out off his mouth. Those with the surname of Chen in China, Taiwan and Sino should be annoyed by their worst son.

Not bullets, but shells and missiles, how about that?

Warfare is continuation of diplomacy by other means. As Sino has no official diplomacy with Taiwan, so how can we resist the temptation of separatist blood on our bayonets?

However, we support _Taiwan of having its own government, we wish _Taiwan not to seperate from China. United China! We can have 1 Government 2nations! Xiannese people do not approve of seperation. I object to seperation. Our Dream of United China is weakened.

Both Parties, Communist-Nationalist, and Confederate Chinese Parties have voted against _Taiwan's Independence and will not recognise it. However, we wish to remian in Peace with _Taiwan.

Taiwan should NOT declare independence, although it is important to remember that Taiwan was NEVER part of PRC. It should simply safeguard the lives of its people by maintaining the status quo.

"We denounce Sino's ultranationalist leanings," said Vice Premier Park Hyemin today from the Politburo. "However, Taiwan should refrain from all moves that may provoke Chinese nations, such as Sino, PRC China, or other entities who may have issues of pride or historical injustice to settle. Please think carefully, but whatever the cost, Islandia will be behind a peaceful resolution to this matter; it is best for us to be at peace and to enjoy a peaceful relationship with each other."

IN order to allieviate tensions, the Foreign Council has called for a meeting of the nations involved in order to settle the issue peacefully.

Official Statement by the People's Republic of (PRC) China

We once again warns Chen Shuibian and his separationists to refrain from declaring independence as traitors of China, and declaraing Taiwan Province as a separate country. It is important to acknowledge the fact that the Taiwan Island is a part of China, and will always be a part of China. By declaring independence, it will only damage the integerity, unity, and stablization among the Chinese people, and will only cause further turmoil.

Further, we view this 'pro-independence' voice by Chen Shuibian as a very suspecious act. We may figure that it is just a sign of vote-rigging by Chen Shuibian, and Chen Shuibian's mistake of declararing independence.

The People's Republic will not just sit by and watch separationists beginning to wage war on their own people, nor will the People's Liberation Army stand by and watch Chen Shuibian and his gangs tearing away the unity of the Chinese nations today. The People's Republic, although in no way declaring Taiwan as a part of the People's Republic, will employ its deterrence against a declaration of total independence from China. We wish Chen Shuibian and his gang should be aware that at least, they should not in any way provoke us in armed conflict. As much as we look at peace as an importance, if the nationalist government delcares independence, we shall resume full hostilities, including military.

We also warn other nations to refrain from intervene and take part in internal affairs of China, as this will only damage their own credibility and disrupt peace.

Looks like the votes have a turning point, right now!

~~<^>__Xin Zhong Hua News Agency__<^>~~

Good Morning Xiaguo, I am Diane Choi. And I am Jung Park.
Diane, "The recent votes have increased to over 50%, not on the Pro-Independence, but Anti-Independence. The tide has turned, the vote now is on No to Independence and Xiannese officials have commented on that this vote will likely to be close. However, they mention the tables may be turned again and again."
"Yes, Its very close indeed, Yeh as of today had also commented on Anti-Separatism. The Party, Confederate China Party had roots from Sino's United China Party. One of the Party's main principle was Anti-Seperatism and Ultra Nationalism. Doing so, Yeh had commented on not supporting or recognise Independent Taiwan. Dao also, remains neutral but unsupportave of Pro-Independence.

Jung Park, "The Xiannese Civil War has reached to Highest levels ever. Dao Min Ju's Amry of over 80,000 has attacked Hanhai agressively throughout the night. Yeh's forces retreated with thousands of civilians to the North-Western City of Mongut, a rebel controlled city defended by 40,000 rebel. Yeh's troops of about 60,000 had been reportedly sneaking out of the city with thousands of civilians and refugees which had not evacuated early Monday. Since the numbers were only in thousands, the civilian casualties were very low compared to the Seige at Changjing and Jiangjing early Saturday. Two rebels in charge of the uprising in Changjing has been excecuted and hundreds were shot. Including Ma Shui Jin, a general, and also close friend of Yeh's."

The United China Party (supported by Sino) has staged a massive rally to denounce the evils of separatism. Held in the Kaosiung Stadium.

Crowds were reported to be well over 100,000 (OOC: Even _Taiwan would have agreed). At first, the crowds were seated, the air was filled with a rock concert atmosphere, but this was hardly a concert.

Right on time, the militant wings of the United China Party marched in with their usual discipline, piped by strident military music, they marched on until halted...

What followed was a series of speeches given by several guest speakers from the ROTA, who were not tired of life, but tired of Chen's self-denying, warmongering rhetoric.

The speeches continued with the same strident military music that stirred the blood of the masses. The large screens soon switched on to broadcast a live speech given by Sino's General Liu. The contents of his speech would be obvious.

With voting now closed, it is clear that the indepedence notion has not passed the clear majority (>70%) vote. Taiwan will not be declaring independence, and will remain the Republic of China, much to the disappointment of Chen.

Citizens rejoice in Taipengyuan Square in Taipeng. Celebrations include burning of Chen Sui Bian Portraits, raising of The Chinese flag, Chinese Anthem, Revolutionary music, Xiannese Anthem(Hong Wu Shui Lang Da Lang), millitary marches, banquets, and performances.

A Modern Beijing Opera was created depicting Chen Sui Bian and his Seperatist approach toward Taiwan for Independence. The Opera ends with Chen sitting with clasp hands covering his face.

In Mongut, Xiaguo's 3rd largest city controlled by rebels rejoiced even more. Rebel troops were singing songs and civilians were dnacing during the news of Taiwan gaining no independence. However, the celebrations were dimmed out as news of Yeh's retreat from Hanhai loosing the main city to Dao's forces had arrived to Mongut.
