Florida Declares Independence! Riot ensues!

Miami, Florida
A large housing complex
4:48 PM

Crowds of angry Floridians chanted and cheered obnoxiously outside the large apartment complex in downtown Miami, obscene cardboard signs and makeshift weapons held in their hands. They pushed and shoved past each other screaming, each of them trying to be heard, and each yearning for their freedom. A plethora of police officers had been dispatched to stop them, but it was to no avail. Their nightsticks and shields weren’t enough to beat back the cry of justice, nor the bottles and fruit that were being thrown at them.

It was a chaotic scene, a demonstration filled with raw violence and burning hatred. However, it was the exact effect that Segundo Lozano had been looking for. The middle-aged man of Spanish descent observed the chaos from behind the safety of a podium, dressed in an expensive suit of white and holding a megaphone in his hand. His emerald green eyes danced with delight as another large brawl broke out, and a pearly white smile could be seen beneath his thick black beard.

Suddenly, a thundering voice rang out, and as quickly as the fight had started, it had stopped. The rioters turned to view the speaker, eying him in anticipation, and as he spoke once more, their breaths became short and rapid. They were hanging on his every word.

“Brothers and sisters of Florida!” boomed the voice of Segundo, the megaphone positioned at his mouth. “The time of reckoning for these foreign powers have come! No longer will we obey their laws! No longer will we tolerate their rule! We have let this crime go unpunished for too long now, and we have allowed our streets to be taken from us by invaders! It is not right! And it will stop today!”

Angry cheers rung out, and several more fights were started. Segundo had always been an inspirational speaker, and had never failed to rally a crowd behind him. He continued, his deep voice strong and full of conviction.

“I left Cuba in search of freedom! In search of refuge from the political mess that plagued my country! And I found a home in Florida. The beaches made me feel at home, and the opportunities that I was given were unlike any I had dreamed before. I thought I had found a permanent home, a place where I could live in peace forever, but I was wrong. As were all the Floridians, who thought that this beautiful land would go untouched, untainted. As always, the greed of governments played a part in our undoing, and it wasn’t long before every lousy dictator in the world had a piece of OUR work! A piece of OUR sweat and determination! We watched helplessly as foreign powers claimed us as their territory! Well, I have some unfortunate news for them. We are NOT just a piece of land. Florida has its own culture and its own people. We belong here. And the foreign powers don’t.”

“To the emperors and the presidents and the fools that think they can just lay claims to a land not of their own culture or origins! The people of Florida will NOT sit idle and be spoon-fed your garbage! I will not sit by and listen to your rules, especially since you had no part in this land’s growth or creation! We, the proud citizens of Florida, want our freedom! We DEMAND our freedom. And if we are not GIVEN our freedom, there will be a problem. Florida WILL be liberated if you do not have the sense to grant us our independence! And by who, you may ask? The New Florida Order!”

More screams erupted as the crowd began to get even more unruly, and as police officers began to get trampled. Floridian flags were waved in approval of Segundo Lozano, and fog horns went off in celebration of the birth of the Order! Excitement swept over the Spaniard’s face as he continued, even more sincere than before.

“¡Viva la Florida! ¡Viva la libertad! ¡El premio nosotros nuestra independencia o sea castigado!”

With that, Segundo quickly departed, becoming fully aware that his speech would probably be cut short by government officials if he kept it going. He stepped into a dark SUV parked near the podium, escorted by two armed bodyguards, and was soon long gone. However the riot carried on late into the night, and gave those so-called foreign powers something to think about. Segundo and the people weren’t fooling around. Either Florida would be given its freedom, or it would be wrestled away with urban warfare and terrorist attacks. It was up to the government how they would like to deal with the threat of the New Florida Order.

Who needs Florida, when I have Bermuda, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the island of Dominica... *evil smirk*

My, since Northern and Southern Florida don't like each other and the North Floridans would love if south Florida declared it self an indepenant country, it won't get far.
