Question regarding RP and "Godmodding"

Initially I posted this in the wrong forum (sorry about that)

don't want to run afoul of any Godmodding so I would like to pose a question about a weapons system I have been thinking of. It is a weapon system unlike any conventional system, it is in fact a weapon of frightening destructive powers. If it is not within the realm of technical possibility in the real world today, it is not so far off to be "technically" possible. I don't really want to give away what it is. It is not a BIG NOOKZ OF D00M OMFGROLFLOLOL, it is not a laser, it is not a chemical or bio weapon. It *is* a kinetic weapon which should be able to hit a city size target and essentially leave a big smoking hole in the ground.

I have never done any kind of RP before and I wanted to get some things clear before I threw down the gauntlet against a friend of mine who also has a nation here.

Any input or help would be appreciated.

Ya mean like tossing a large chunk of rock or something onto someones nation?

See that works.

But depending on the size of it, it may end up being some sort of killer asteroid that rips away the Earth's atmosphere and causes a thousand year nuclear winter. In THAT case, it would be a godmod, simply because the vast majority of RPers wouldn't be able to respond to it and would ignore it by default. So just keep it relatively small so its not planet-threatening size...

A big rock? I remember Melkor did something like that in the Martian Campaigns.

Prepare to get ignored by anyone who doesn't play with future tech. And against any future tech nations, the rock in question will probably get shot down long before it can do any damage (anti spaceship defenses and such.)

It is a good idea, if you are a billion+ nation. :(

Thanks for the input :)

Nah, I wouldn't just spring it on someone. If I get to put my idea to use, I plan on setting terms of tech and whatnot before I get into any sort of RP with the particular nation I have in mind. Like I said, it's someone I know and we are pretty evenly matched as far as nations go. Of course, I wouldn't give out the exact idea, and I even think we have another person who could act as a sort of referee of things like this just in case there is some sort of legitimate dispute over the tech being used or something like that.

It's been done.

Nothing wrong with the idea, but you're better off using it only if you're a near-future space tech nation. You'll probably be ignored, otherwise.

If you haven't already done so, check out a thread called "Orbital Mechanics" by some bonehead with too much time on his hands ... oh, wait. That would be me.

Hmm.. well, a relativistic cannon firing 50 to 100kg rounds at near light speed would make a big hole where it hit..

True, but the devil's always in the details. He specified he'd be using Modern tech. Modern tech doesn't have a prayer of accelerating anything to even a significant fraction of C.
