(OOC Note: BitingReality is one of my countries)

The Roman Free Press, February 12, 2004

After several days of unrest and uncertainty due to the issue of compulsory cannibalism in BitingReality, Roman Emperor Paul XII hopes to restore stability in the region after an exhaustive battle won easily by RomeW and Hattia near the capital at Pirus. He is calling out the international community to help him out, and has picked a few potential leaders to run BitingReality:

1. Tyre Redena (Liberal)- He is a hard-line socialist, who would completely revamp BitingReality from its oppressive origins. Not very skilled in economics or the military, however.

2. Entrieo Rudella (Radical)- A noted military strategist, he would be the man best able to rebuild BitingReality's military back into the cornerstone of RomeW's armies. However, his hardline approach leaves his thinking too close to the old oppressive BitingReality way of thinking, and may turn out the same state obliterated just a few days before by RomeW and Hattia.

3. Hadrian Vedius (Conservative)- A noted economist, Vedius is seen as the man who'd be able to rebuild BitingReality's economy into a powerhouse. He is seen as a little too capitalistic, and only has moderate military administrative training.

4. Paul XII (Roman Emperor)- Paul has stated that he may reassume outright control of BitingReality if it is best for the country. He is a moderate socialist, always looking out for other nations and peoples. He has some economic and military administration skills, though would the Realitans warm up to someone who forcefully ordered the Realitan government to comply to Roman standards?

The old 'client king v imperial govenor' thing, eh? I think that an Imperial presence is obviously needed, and the "Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove" approach is likely to work.

You cannot allow the people of BitingReality to see any weakness in you, one might suggest that a games is called for. We will send you some of our wild-life to entertain in the arena as they 'play' with some rebels?

If you have any spare gladiators, we would like to start a school

Yes, that is true...however, the fear is if the BitingRealitans see RomeW take control over directly they may see it as a Roman (and thus "foreign") occupation and rebel again. Yes, BitingReality was at one point a firmly and totally-RomeW-controlled province, but RomeW struck an agreement with them gaining self-governance, and they may not appreciate their freedom being taken away. Then again, BitingReality DID defy orders and bring on the invasion...

*bump*

Another thing Joccia: maybe we'll consider that "Rebel Games" thing

*bump* I'm going to make a decision soon- but I would like to have international feedback first.

Looks like it's just me then, and which sane country would take the advice of Joccia?
However, I think you have to look at the way Rome would have handled it - Put in your military with a Hard-man to lead them, get the populace on your side by giving them the old carrot/stick treatment (crucifictions along the main thoroughfares, from city to city and games). Once you have broken the rebellious spirit, put in a wise old consul, with enough military to back him up.

PS, we would still welcome help starting a gladiator school :)

Oh, I'd listen to you...you may be crazy, but you're not insane? ;)

I'm thinking I might go with that option anyway- take direct control now and install a leader once everything is settled down. The BitingRealitans need some stability now.

As for the gladiator thing...Rome is going to send you some instructors, posthaste.
