OOC: For those who remember my Countdown to Armageddon thread, this is kind of a follow on from that. For those who missed it, a comet (not asteroid or meteor) was heading for Earth. Initially, an AI controlled ship was sent to the comet to deliver a payload to destroy it. The AI went rogue and nearly destroyed the entire planet. Here is the follow on.
Having said that, you can probably tell that this relates directly to nations in the computer age. Here are the restrictions though.
It does say Near Future Tech, but higher tech levels are welcome to join, provided we don't get some uber tech nation that can whipe out the AI in an instant. That just ruins the entire RP for everyone.
If you're just discovering computers or don't have them at all, just don't post. Simple as that :)
You can take either side. You can be a hacker or a defender, it doesn't really bother me. Infact, it would be great!
Apart from that, it's anybody's game. Let the armageddon begin!
IGNORE LIST: Any nation who gets ignored will be here. First one is Lapse.
IC:
Deep underground, at a hidden location
The hacker typed away in his dark lab, with computers surrounding him. He reached for his Coke and guzzled it down, wiping his mouth with his hand. He looked at the code again, checking, looking for a break... no, it was perfect. There were no problems this time round.
He'd been working here for many years now, hidden from the SR Military Police. "The only one to escape" he thought to himself. After the Armageddon incident with the old AI, he'd been kicked out and was being transfered to a maximum security prison to be executed. He'd been suspected of messing with the AI to drive it into Bristle. "And I would've done it too..." he thought, remembering his religious leader who told him he was a solider of the digital god, whoever or whatever that may be.
He escaped when the War on DOL broke out, when SR went straight to war and executed most prisoners. In the confusion of a near-disaster nuclear accident, he rushed out the doors, and headed for his new location.
And so now he was here, starting at line after line of code for SR's only other AI, Helios. The difference was this was designed as a weapon to be unleashed on enemy computer systems, to kill most defences and cause panic and chaos. Now he had the beta version. Of course SR had killswitches, and (most importantly) a better, more powerful version of the AI, but it was locked away, deep inside a SR military facility. There was no way he could get it.
After removing the last killswitch, the hacker smiled. He grabbed an infected disk with the AI on it, and rushed over to his test computer. He inserted the disk. The computer froze, the HDD light flashing madly. The CD ROM opened and closed constantly, the floppy drive didn't stop reading... it was chaos. Then the screen unfroze, and dropped to HelOS. Then the hard drive was wiped. The fans stopped. Smoke emerged from the computer.... then nothing. It was perfect. The last image on the screen was of the Hacker's logo: Two swords and a keyboard.
"Perfect" he smiled to himself. "Let the armageddon begin."
He uploaded it to the web server, and waited.
OOC: From here, systems slowly get infected or whatever you want to happen.
