Killthanus looked towards Melyanna, his face set in grim circumstance. He allowed the Datanode to drop back to the desktop, its contents absorbed and for the meantime, understood, if not in total clarity. Minutes ticked past, and the silence was interrupted only by the heavy clattering of rain as the city was bathed in another harsh shower.

"I do not like where this is heading." uttered the acting first, finally breaking the silence he had endured for what seemed like hours.

Melyanna leant over, her eyes transmitting what little sympathy her proud being would allow. She quirked her head, her foreign tongue rolling the words in a precise, if alien way.

"The build up sorrounding the red world increases daily. Reports indicate the death toll is rising at a rate of at least eighteen percent per cycle. Every hour the orbit of our neighbour fills with yet more artifical death. In addition, arcane technologies wrought by demons too terrible to speak their name fully work. A noose is tightening, and we cannot be sure it is not our neck from which we are being hanged."

Killthanus nodded.

"The imperium grows restless on Io. Europa is within easy reach, should they choose to begin a conflict."

Melyanna frowned, clearing a lock of blonde from her features. "Do you believe it may come to hostility?"

The intelligence minister rubbed the bridge of his nose, as though this action might drive from his mind the problems that burdeoned him so.

"We have nothing to convince us totally that conflict is upon us. However it is prudent, and wise not to become complacant, or ignore a build up sorrounding us. As such, we must declare "Aroiora^Awarise". We must increase our levels of observation to maximum and maintain firm contact with all related allies and information centres. All seven fleets of the Defence Solarri must be readied, we must be prepared for anything, and at the same time, hope for nothing."

The two debated and discussed, within the relative warmth of Administration One. Elsewhere, the Serene^Union was waking, and bringing its ancient and most holy senses to bear on the activities, and movements of those that may harbour ill will.

Only time would truly tell wether the precuation was justified.
