VIGVAR, SUNDAY – A military cooperation treaty was signed today, an hour ago, between the Grand Duchy of Tarasovka and The Corporate Oligarchy of Der Angst, further promoting an already close cooperation between the two Sisgardian neighbours and SFN allies in the domain of military common defence and aid. ‘The Pact’, which has been discussed between the two parties for some time now, has been signed in the Vigvar Winter Palace by His Highness, the Grand Duke Mikhail II Shakhovskoy himself in presence of the High Command of the Taraskovyan National Defence Forces. The Der Angst side was represented by William Morgan Clark, Head of the Council of Private Enterprises.
Following is an excerpt from the text of the treaty:

By the terms expressed in this treaty, We, signatories of the stated treaty, agree that whenever and wherever the other signatory is attacked and suffers casualties, be it at home or abroad, the other signatory will provide all assistance within current possibilities and within a reasonable timeframe.

The press conference is taking place right now at the Hall of George of the Vigvar Winter Palace. Here’s an intervention by His Highness, Grand Duke of Tarasovka Mikhail II Shakhovskoy.

The Grand Duchy and the Corporate Oligarchy have a rather long history of mutual cooperation and partnership in various domains. ‘The Pact’ does not challenge the ties of the SFN and is only aimed at promoting a further bilateral cooperation between the two parties.

Euh… No, it is not an official confirmation of what you call the ‘SFN Trio of Evil’. And yes, the The Integrated Companies of The Vortex Corporation would have been invited to sign ‘The Pact’ if it weren’t for those internal issues of theirs.

No, it is not an official confirmation of the ‘SFN Duo of Evil’.

Any intelligent questions out there?

OOC: Well, I guess that the nations we have contacts with can RP a press conference if they want and ask questions... :?

Clark chuckled at the initial questions. He didn´t like such public events, he prefered to stay i the dark, to act behind the scenes... But unfortunately, the time had come to act a bit more... openly, to make sure his current, fairly powerful status was recognised.

So he stood there, waiting for questions... and answering them:

"No... I can just quote the Grand Duke... this pact is to enhance the already brilliant cooperation between our nations, not to challange anyone."

"No... the entirety of DA wanted this, there are no revaling groups who wat to get rid of the SFN..."

"OF COURSE NOT! It´s not like we ever plotted anything evil... Nor do we now... Knootoss? No, no, it has nothing to do with it..."

"Is here anyone who wants to ask a positive question?"

"Is there any... specific... form of military cooperation that your countries have in mind? Any specific military cooperation in the near future?", asked a Knootian journalist clearly adressing the mars situation.

"We do hope that the practical applications of this treaty in its military form are as few as possible. 'The Pact' is mainly destined to dissuade any potential agressor by proving him that both signatories will always have someone to cover their back.

As of the near future... there are several unresolved situations we are working on right now", the Grand Duke's asnwer on the, for the moment, unresolved Martian issue remained brief. The Grand Ducal press bulletins were full of notes that the 1st and 2nd Battlegroups engaged and defeated TST fleets in Martian orbit and later on were targetted by the Martian Confederate ships and had to resolve to 'preventive measures'...

OOC: Defeat? We were never defeated, most of the ships are still battle-worthy. I merely made a tagtical retreat due to being heavily outnumbered...

OOC: Propaganda, silly, propaganda :x
You think that GDT governement owned news agencies will say that the fleets did not 'win' but merely 'waved bye bye'? :?

And in strategic terms, if you don't achieve your objectives - which TST most assuredly did not - then you were defeated. If you achieve your objectives, as Tarasovka did, then you are victorious. It's quite simple.

OOC: Erm, no. You could still be wiped out but have survived long enough to achieve you objective, during some sort of defensive mission. Then, though you would have been defeated you would still have achieved your objective. Ergo, they are different things, so although I failed to achieve my objective I was not deleted.
Now I'll leave the thread and stop all this OOC posting...

ooc: TST objective: Helping Melkor on Mars. Objective: Failed.

GDT/ DA Objective: Protecting NYNJ from being hit in the back: Objective achived. Pretty simple.

Of course, the TST fleet hadn´t been destroyed, so it`s strategic capabilities remain. It can/ could try again. But the first round: Defeat.

(For the record: I tend to classify: Tactical victory: Enemy has higher casualities. Strategic victory: Objective completed, no matter what your own casualities are. Obviously, a tactical victory is possible while you´re still strategically defeated...)

Anyway...

"In any case..." Clark continued, "We see this pact as a milestone for the future of our two nations. An island in the storm, so to speak. Basically, it`s the logical conclusion of our close relationships in the past..."
