Assocation of Football releases World Cup 12 roster

OGLETHORPIA (BT) -- With the coming and going of World Cup 11, Europa Britannia taking home a second Cup, Oglethorpia prepares for yet another World Cup bid in the twelfth iteration of the international competition. Following the team's early and disappointing exit from World Cup 11, Wonderteam defender Butch Beige was booted off the squad for "being an asshole," according to sources close to Oglethorpian management. Later, in a strange act of karma, Beige was killed dead by a freak lightning strike while sitting in his home watching TV. Wonderteam management released no statement concerning the ex-defender's death.

To replace Beige, lengthy and rigorous tryouts for the empty defender's position were held -- Archy "Franz" Ferdinand from Guychester United being selected to fill the defending spot on the Wonderteam roster.

"It's great, man," said Franz Ferdinand after being told he had made the team. "I'm just going to do my best out there, da?"

Stories of note include team captain Fernando Green's trade from Real Metropolis to Arkham United -- splitting him up from teammate Torrence Black, now playing the role of star striker on Megalopolis City FC's squad. IN GOAL
Ken'Ichi Yamamoto is a talented young keeper who in his career with the Wonderteam has only allowed past 39 goals across 57 games. Yamamoto-san's gall as a keeper has stunned many a striker -- having taken many shots to the face in stealing away the ball right under a forward's feet.

THE FULLBACKS
Archy Ferdinand is the youngest player on Oglethorpia's World Cup squad, and it certainly shows in his aggresive defensive style. Ferdinand has a keen eye for when to take a slide and clears the ball with admirable efficiency.

Mike Brown is a rather quiet defender, who just goes out onto the field and does his job. This has earned him the nickname "The Ox."

Samson Grey held the record for most yellow & red cards last year in the United Football League with a whopping 72 cards over 40 matches -- that is, before he was topped by the late Butch Beige. An aggresive defender, Samson Grey proves a talented tackler -- almost too ready to challenge a forward.

THE MIDFIELD
Fernando Green's eye for passing has made him a valuable part of the Wonderteam with his ability to move the ball down the field with ease. He's always been Oglethorpia's go-to man when the team earns corner kicks. Fernando Green played six seasons with striker Torrence Black, and the two are a potent offensive force when Green is on top of his passing game.

Jerome Furukawa has always played second-fiddle, the halfback playing rear-midfield should the team decide to give up ground. When it's his ball though, Furukawa-san has shown he can make the plays to get the ball moving down towards goal.

Floyd Black seems to have been cursed, living under Torrence Black's shadow -- but he doesn't mind one bit. Floyd Black has shown fine skill in his ability to pick off the opposing sides passes and get the ball moving the other way again.

Baltasar Grey's niche is his skill in playing left -- or right midfield, an integral part of the Wonderteam's fondness of stringing together passes on offense. He's an efficient passer and always an option when his teammates are in a pinch.

THE OFFENSE
Kirk Calhoun may be the oldest player on the squad, but he's shown his ability to weave through the defense and get the shot off in time. His most potent skill he contributes to the team is how he sets up fellow forwards Jorge White and Torrence Black -- though Calhoun could easily stand on his own in terms of shooting ability.

Jorge White is considered scrawny by many, but standing at 5'10, Jorge is a quick player who has little fondness for passing the ball unless it's absolutely necessary. He has shown amazing ability to take a pass and get a shot off in little time at all. His skill lies in beating the keeper with a low shot into the corner of the goal right around the box.

Torrence Black has proven himself a world-class striker on Oglethorpia's part, an integral piece of the unstoppable Oglethorpian WC10 offense with a GD of +31. Black has an amazing soaring shot that the striker is able to take from outside the goalie's box and put in with an admirable amount of goals to shot's taken. Black has also shown skill in his ability to put goals in from the corner of the field. His weakpoint is his ability to make a solo run close enough to beat the defense with the shot, and largely relies on White and Calhoun to setup runs for him.

As the new NEWI Cefn Druids national stadium, The Hole, will not be completed until midway through qualifying, the venues for the first three qualifiers will be as follows:

Matchday 7, and the visit of Halfassedstates, will see the opening of the new NCD national stadium in Cefn, known only as "The Hole", due to the fact that it is contained within a specially built hole in the ground that allows expansion both upwards and downwards if need be. It's capacity will be 76,325.

As for kits: The FANCD have decided to do away with the cursed black and white stripes as the home strip, and replace it with the red and yellow away kit occassionally worn last time around. The same designs will be kept, as the FANCD will not invest in new ones until the team win something. Like a match. Therefore, the previous blue third kit is promoted to second, while the emergency third kit is now the infamous black and white of old.

Thanks to our recent developments in cloning technology, the nomadic people's of Gormith are finally able to name their roster for the upcoming qualifying stages for World Cup 12.

Although this marks their entry into World Cup Competition, Head Coach Gorm II is quite convinced that he will bring honor to the Country founded and run by his father Gorm.

Bovines Announce World Cup XII Roster

BARNVILLE
The Ministry of Sport, Entertainment and Propaganda announced the full roster for the Bovines. There were no major surprises as our talent pool is limited at best. The only big name left off the squad was Titan's forward Brahms who is said to be injured. The youngster Wagyu from Dairy Coast United was called up to take his spot. Also the forward Salers seems to have been relegated to the bench because of his poor performance at the Trial by Fire Tournament.

The Bovines will use their traditional kit of blue jersey and blue shorts and the change kit will be white jerseys and white shorts .

Changes: Major overhaul, as promised by Alvin Ker, since WC11.
Players from Dorona FC, famous for its Chinese players - albeit a few exceptions, the latest club to add members to the international squad. The Wolves also welcome a new Assistant Coach from Dorona FC.
Captainship was passed down from Jin Koizumi to Darryl Keats.

Due to the many delays in getting replacements, there is a slight generation gap between the starting squad and the reserves.
Alvin Ker is also set to retire after WC12, and David Joel is rumoured to take his place. Alvin Ker claims that the present Chisai'nihon FC's assistant coach, Ken Nakamori, might take over instead.

ASNN - Stars announce Qualifying Roster for WCXII

Manager Lord Mackintosh announced today that the roster for the two qualifying teams has been finalized. The list was released earlier today, with the new starters from last year all repeating. Many of the newer players, such as young soccer prodigy Kellen Asten, composing a nice mix and compliment to the starters. The National Team will be chosen after the qualifying rounds.
