The Imperium of Terra

The Imperium of Terra has begun an unexplained drive toward enhancing the rank-and-file squads of its standard army, the Imperial Guard. The projected figure for this round of impressments is slated around ten thousand men, most of whom will be organized into infantry divisions; some will be sent to serve the Adeptus Mechanicus and Departmento Munitorum, while some may be selected for Adeptus Astartes biomodification and outfitting.
The standard IG trooper is outfitted with the following:
~ A Mars-pattern lasgun and two reserve energy cells
~ A standard suit of flak or other regionally designed armor
~ A barrel-mounted bayonet or other close combat weapon
~ Two frag grenades
Officers frequently carry Bolt Pistols, far more powerful but less reliable weapons, and each platoon is outfitted with one or more two-man Heavy Weapons teams, which make use of Heavy Bolters, rocket launchers, Lascannons, or other heavy armaments.
Adeptus Mechanicus tank construction on Forge World Aramil VII has been stepped up as well; at least two dozen Rhino transports and half this number of Basilisk ordnance delivery platforms are slated for shipping to Guard headquarters around the Imperium within six months.
