Unveiling of the CK IDF-2

The sky was like a sheet of black volcanic glass. A cloudy and moonless night, perfect for the city flyover. His superiors would be very impressed.

Lieutenant Chang, you are now authorised to enter the aircraft

The defeaning loudspeaker said again. It was Chang's first flight on the CK IDF-2, but he was not nervous. Other pilots had said it was like riding a woman on ecstasy : pure euphoria. He climbed into the cockpit and shuttled onto the runway.

The acceleration of the IDF-2 was the first thing that shocked him. It was smooth and controlled, yet powerful and reminded him of his first time on an aircraft.

The radio spoke again. Alright Chang, we want you to switch to FSW mode at Mach 1.1. He responded. Acknowledged.

The wings begun the upward motion that would lock them into FSW configuration. Chang looked steadily at the wings. The next part of the journey would take him over the sea, into international waters.

OOC: Can someone drop in?

Chang continued his flight. By now, he was far over the ocean. The instructions given to him by his commander were beginning to test his fitness. He was beginning to sweat, under the stress of dozens of 7G turns. Finally, the dreaded words.

Chang, perform a 10.5G turn at Mach 1.3, 15,000 feet

The dark shape of the forward swept wing F-109D seemed to melt and solidify as it's mission adaptive wings and fuselage flexed. Microhydraulic systems under the skin made the entire fuselage a control surface, making the F-109D a deadly aircaft in a dogfight. It's wing pylons were empty, with the Athena system and Wetball RAM paint masking it's signature as it cruised at 20,000 feet at Mach .08. Lt. Patrick O'Reiller was pleased with the aircraft, from what he'd seen it was bound to make the service. Two escorts filming the mission, UMF-6 AirHawks, flew behind him as his LIDAR picked something up below him, traveling over Mach 1. He had the UMF-6s controlled by base try to catch it on IR cameras as his plane slowly descended.

"Urghh...."

Chang's body seemed to melt under the G forces of the turn. His experimental G suit pressed hard into his skin, causing a few bruises. He was a bit worried about what his girlfriend would think when she saw his body.

The radar showed nothing.

OOC: LIDAR?
New Empire

OOC-Laser Radar. Uses laser beams instead of radio waves.
IC-
O'Reiller swore as he saw the thing turn, not because of it, but because in 3 seconds those huge sensor pods the UMF-6s carried would make them visible to radar. Unable to change their flight course due to communications silence, he hoped that the unmanned fighters would make their turns before the unknown aircraft found them.

Chang's body felt like rubber. The turn was much harder than he expected it to be, and the prototype G suit really didn't help the bruising. After what seemed to be an eternity, the aircraft completed the turn.

We clocked you at 11.7G, 1.2G higher than the rated max for the suit.

And then he saw the blips on the radar.

"Base, we have some signatures here. Can AWACS confirm?"

Shit!
The Lieutenant knew the UMFs would be detected if the aircraft had half decent radar. The mission adaptive wings quivered, and the microhydraulics flexed as the F-109D shot upwards, hopefully beyond the IR detection range of the aircraft.

"AWACS has confirmed. Request them to land."

Chang was not listening. The dance of the unidentified aircraft was both graceful and threatening.

"This is Lietenant Chang of the ROTAF. Identify yourselves."

The unmanned aircraft, unable to speak, made a humming chirp, alerting them that they were found. The two aircraft zipped upwards, their sensor pods still clinging to their bellies. O'Reiller began looking at the LIDAR scan of the possibly hostile aircraft. It wasn't anything he'd seen before, nothing he'd recognize, making it all the more worrysome. Possibly, a new Asian nations prototype aircraft, but for now he listened to the radio conversation and hoped it wasn't armed.

"They're not replying. Shall I get into visual range?"
"Yes. Then try a visual signal."

The IDF-2 locked it's wings into delta configuration and begun closing on the unidentified aircraft.

Two J37s of the Islandian Air Force roared by, on a standard CAP over Taiwan. Since the beginning of the air war, the Fourth and Sixth AFDs took no chances, not with Maropian Coast being so close to Taiwan, and had ordered nearly all unoccupied fighters to carry out sweeps over Taiwanese airspace as to not allow Bonstockian raiders.

The two of them looked blankly at the scene going on.
"What do you suppose is happening?" Lt. Pu asked.
"Nothing we want," Capt. Saisho replied, switching on the intercom and setting it to guard frequency. "Um, Taiwanese fighter, this is Hawk One and Hawk Two from First Brigade, Fourth AFD. Would you like some help with whatever you're doing?"

"Hawk One and Hawk Two, this is Lietenant Chang. I am investigating an unidentified flying object in the vicinity."

OOC:

Feel like posting another side to the story, as the USSNR patrols everywhere these days.

IC:

The Modified SR-71 Blackbird flew at Mach 2 in cruise. Its mission was a simple one, Peacekeeping Patrols. All the weaponry it had was two miniguns hidden in its nose, that was all, expect for a few missiles under its Lightweight Ionic Titanium chassis and hull. Normally the SR-71's in the USSNR would be patroling Short Ranges, but since Imperialism spread rapidly, the People of Every Nation were of the Upmost Importance. Hence is why Tiniv is piloting his Blackbird, which he personally calls Prometheus for the tone of its AI voice.

Sensor Sweep Negative, Commander

Tiniv nodded as best as he could with his "Blackbird-Suit" on, nicknamed such because of its use specially with this aircraft. Pressing a few buttons before relaxing back, he spoke to Prometheus through the Microphone in his Helment, "Prometheus, tell me the height of the aircraft please."

We are currently in Cruise Mode at Eighty-Thousand feet

"Thank you Prometheus," Tiniv said after the AI spoke its report, "Do another sweep just incase."

I doubt it will come up with anything, Commander. Last time I detected nothing of interest expect a......calculating....Alert, unknown object ahead, ramming into object is 99.9 percent likely at our current course

"Hmmm, most be some other Nations Recon Plane. How fast is it going, Prometheus?"

The Unknown Object is going beyound Mach 3.5. Now a 100.00 percent chance for collision with object at our current course, Commander.

As the robotic growl of Prometheus's voice subsided, Tiniv sighed, "Very well, change altitude for Positive Accent. When it passes follow its speed."

Understood, Commander. Accending to Ninety-Thousand feet to recieve less Sonic Pressure from pass. Following Object shall be commenced after passing with Positive Acceleration of Hyper-Jet Engines

Sitting back still, not worried, he grabbed his small notepad and made a jot about something. Command was going to be very interested in this sooner or later.

OOC: I have no idea what just flew under you, all the aircraft here are <40,000 feet.
09-02-2004, 11:15
OOC: An 10.5 G let alone a 11.7G turn would knock out the pilot, unless it was held only for a tiny fraction of a second, and because it was a turn it lasted MUCH longer. 9G turns are the max a human will stand sustained(Still can't hold it long) without risking health problems.

And his body would NOT feel like rubber, it would fell much more like a rock, A US test pilot that experienced a 11g foces for 0.25 of a second stated that his body curled up into a ball and he could stop himself doing it.

IC:
A small fishing trawler on it's way home couldn't help but to look at the massive magical influx of aircraft into the area for no real apparent reason and from no apparent source.

"AWACS detects contacts to starboard; updating target information now," Lt. Pu reported.

Saisho sighed. "Prepare to engage," he ordered. "Get Cloudwatch to scramble some more fighters to help us."

Within minutes, pilots of the 4th Advanced Fighter Division's Second Brigade, flying their new, J40 interceptors, were airborne and inbound towards the engagement area, ETA was in one minute.

"How do we know if the contacts are hostile?" Pu asked

"ROE dictates that we investigate and engage if necessary," Saisho replied. "We cant take a chance. Ping it twice on GUARD frequency, if no response, then prepare your ASXs and LRAEM/As for action."

OOC: My fleet hasn't left since I'm not sure if the hostilities with Bonstock have ended yet.

IC:

The solitary radar operator on duty pored over his readouts.

"Sir, I'm reading a lot of activity over Taiwan near us," he called to the CO.

"What do you mean?"

"Sir, this dot represents the Taiwanese experimental fighter we dectected a little while ago. And these dots are the E. Islandian fighters. But I have no idea what these dots are. They might be Bonstockian but I doubt it."

"Still, just to be on the safe side. Communications Officer, call the Taiwanse ask them what the heck is going on over there. First Officer, prepare to scramble fighters to protect the fleet. Also, message the fleet that we are upgrading status to DEFCON 3."

OOC: With New Empire not responding and 5CN starting a war, I may as well land it.

The "Fuel Warning" light flashes in Chang's cockpit. It was time to land.
