Monthly pay of workers cut to 0 in Xanthal.

The Xanthalian government announced today that, in the intrest of increasing the standard of living for all Xanthalian citizens, the monthly paycheck issued to each working member of Xanthal would be cut to Q100 ($200) per month, half of the previous Q200 ($400). This reduction in pay will allow for the construction of higher quality residences for Xanthalian citizens and improvement of existing living complexes. It will also help pay for improvements in areas of national defense and in the workplace as well as fund construction of much-needed recreational areas in Xanthalian cities. Many citizens voiced protest of the pay cut, but most were optimistic, as demonstrated by a comment given to our reporters by a worker on his way home today. "The government knows what it's doing. Besides, if this pay cut will get me a bigger living space in the long run, that's fine with me! I hear that the extra funds will even pay for recreational stuff! I'm happy to take a pay cut for the good of everyone involved, including me!" Xanthalian citizens have traditionally had extremely low pay for their work, as almost their entire income goes directly to the government to pay for the maintenance of their homes, appliances, furnishings, utilities, and other essentials of life under the socialist system that the nation operates under.
The move to cut pay was surprising, as Dictator Vladimir Museveni had only recently backed off under duress from his proposal to privatize a limited portion of Xanthalian industry. He explained his actions in his weekly press conference. "Since privatization is not a direction this nation is willing to go at this time, I have approved the request of the board of ministers to take this action. As long as the government must support its people so directly, the government must have adequate funding to do so."
The new funding available to the government will also create approximately 50,000 new job openings, mostly in the Ministry of Development. This is the Xanthalian News Network, bringing you the full story twenty-four hours a day. We'll be back after these messages.

Although I do not completely agree with this decision to cut peoples pay for better living conditions, we hope that this works out as plan.

If any economical assistance is needed, we are always open for you taking out a loan.

Thank you for your time

Well, given the brutal inefficiency of having the government do all that, one would think it would be more logical to simply let people buy what they need themselves. Buuuuut that would make too much sense for socialists to get...

Neo-Wu: We will keep you in mind if a loan is ever needed, but we doubt that it will be. We have over thirty trillion quinaults saved for a rainy day in our reserves.

Menelmacar: It's not all that inefficient. We've been doing it for so long that the government has all sorts of specialized branches. It all runs almost like private business except with stricter regulation and everyone answers to the central government. Capitalism works just as well or even slightly better, but that's a sacrifice Xanthalians are willing to make for the knowledge that every citizen in the country is housed and cared for.

Ill bet his people really arent all that worried about video games, DVD's or CD's, and dont splurge the way people in capitalist countries do...though i think im like capitalism better than this...since I care about DVS's Video Games and CD's!

OOC: In Soviet Russia, it was considered "fine dinning" to go to McDonalds, peple saved up for mounths just to take the family out for burgers, in America, its somethign we do whenw e dont feel like cooking.....see the HUGE contrast there

I dont think soviet russia even had mcdonalds considering its something from the west and capitalist.

Also considering in Soviet Russia you had to wait online for 8 hours to get a potatoe I think anything where u get food in less they a quarter of a day would be considered fine dining.

No, im pretty sure they had McDonalds.....goverment regulated, but they had it. In any case, point stands

Also, yeah, they ran out of food at lot too. Like you'd go to the distrabution center........and they'd be out of almost everything anyway....

That may be so, but only because the sodium in them would have killed me at eighteen ;)

Jeans are (Or were) considered status symbols under Communist Russia. A pair would go for hundreds of dollars...

The People's Republic of Zeronia congratulates the Socialist Republic of Xanthal in its efforts to raise the standard of living for all its citizens. We are sure that this decrease in wages will inevitably lead to a much stronger sense of Xanthalian civic duty knowing that all citizens will benefit and still be able to keep money saved for personal purposes. We expect the resulting better living conditions and recreational facilities will stir citizen morale and lead to higher production in general.

Some for all, is better than all for some.

Well, I have a sinking feeling that this isn't my thread anymore, but in response to earlier comments keep in mind... Xanthal's government pays for all necessities of life for its citizens. That means that, though their salaries are small, people can spend all of their money on what they want, and don't have to worry about what they need.
