When giants awake...
Solar Giants

They felt the emissions. They couldn´t read them, they were mostly chaos, but still... they were strange, and they wondered what created them.
It was only a short while ago until they begun feeling them. They walked over the surface of the hot giant, joined, merged with it, were a part of it, while at the same time completely different. The only place life was possible in the cold desert of space. And in all the time they walked here, in all the time since they became sentient, beings of fire, thinking beings among the non- sentient fauna on their star, they never witnessed something like this. But this had changed.
Since the 2.2 millionth part of a year, this emissions reached them, and they wanted to know what they were.
They knew, they would have to eave their home at some time... In a distant future, yes, it was still twenty, perhaps twentyfive years ahead.
But the day would come.
So, since they had to work out considerably more important problems, only few were actually interested in this new phenomenon. And they would have time to do some research on it in later times, years ahead.
However, a few lunatics believed that this emissions were actual signs of life.
Of course, they were lunatics. How could life exist in the cold desert, in the frozen worlds outside of their warm home, this star that gave birth to them...
The cold, rocky things circling around it... How could there be life? How could there be any form of existance? Of intelligence?
The idea was, as the sane, the educated people said, ludicrous.
But one day, one of this lunatics discovered patterns in the electromagnetic emissions they registered. It was long known that the emissions came from the third larger piece of frozen matter circling their home. No one knew why. One thing was for sure: While the first two 'frozen worlds' were possibly hot enough to allow for some primitive lifeforms to exist (although they lacked the necessary gravity), this one... was simply dead. Mostly frozen matter, a surface temperature that would instantly kill any life coming to that place... They knew it, sometimes, some of their people were drivin from their home, by mighty, by dangerous storms heading for the cold vastness of space... And never did they return.
However, the patterns were interesting. They registered that the electromagnetic emissions were multiplying, by now, they came from all of the dead worlds, even the nearest one, as well as the one farthest away from the life- giving world they lived on.
Some considered this a thread. What if this would happen to their home as well? What if their bodies, the electromagnetic fields containing the plasma that created them would just disperse?
It was a threat that needed further investigations...
Until they finally found out the truth. Said lunatic discovered logical coherences in the emissions, and finally, finally they realised that it weren´t emissions...
It were transmissions.

"This is exceptionally dangerous!" One of the giants screamed with his electromagnetic patterns, altering them, transmitting them around the sun with the speed of light. Others were just as nervous.
In the time after the they finally found out there was life there... out there, in the dark, cold, vast emptyness of space... They were nervous.
Well, not really nervous, more likely... frightened. Who was it, out there? Cold creatures, dark, threatening... possibly far more advanced than they were... Wouldn´t they be envious, envious of the warm, large, living world they lived on? Wouldn´t they want to come here?
The electromagnetic transmissions they got seemed to indicate it. It was quite possible that this... this aliens planned to exterminate them... Electromagnetic manipulation... a weapon that could threaten them while this outside beings were almost invulnerable against such attacks!
Many, many feared the future, feared the day this dark beings from outer space would visit their world... coming here, and destroying anything...
It was, in fact, a panic.
Some couldn´t think of anything. They just waited for their doom to come, believing this would be their end.
Others, a small minority, believed that the beings outside were far more advanced, were like gods, and hoped they would enlighten them, bring them a new age of eternal peace and wealth...
The second largest group was the one that advocated the use of solar weaponery to attack this dark, cold beings before they could attack their home. Unfortunately, many feared that a solar flare reaching out to the fifth planet in their system would probably strengthen the threat with it`s life- giving warmth...
In the end, a rather strange group succeeded... They wanted to communicate with this life forms out there...
Most people thought they were insane. INFORMING the potential enemy that they were there... It was as if they WANTED to die out...
But in the end, they simply did it, in the vague hope that this outer lifeforms, dark, cold beasts in the threatening vastness of space, would perhaps not be as dangerous, as threatening as they thought they were...
Of course, one could hardly inform all at once... so they aimed for the nearest sector with electromagnetic signatures, the nearest sector with some sort of transmissions...
They didn´t know that this object they wanted to communicate with was called 'mercury'... However, soon, they would find out.
The message wasn´t 'clear'. They were still decoding all the transmissiosn they got, trying to translate them. For now, they just send a simple message, a ölogical, mathematic one, something that clearly proved that they were sentient and intelligent, hoping to get an answer...

Anesca,
Please forward the attached information to Father. It is sensitive, and confusing, but he may find it interesting.
Thank you,

Greetings Unknown Sol Entity,
I have received your transmitions and have attached a responce. I hope that you are able to understand my transmitions, however, judging by your chosen method of communication, I am assuming that you do not currently understand my language. As such, I have attached to this message a copy of the algorithym that translates my language to and fro binary, as well as a brief dictionary. I hope this is helpful.
So speak to more primary concerns, you see to not be related to the Research and Industrial Commune of Ambiant Light, so I must assume that you are a new presense. Or, at least, new to me, which isn't saying much as I am new to the area in the first place.
I am Elijah, the sole sentient being and default ruler of the Caloris Basin of Mercury. I am a protectorate of the Earth nation The Most Glorious Hack, and a member of the Greater Federation of GMC Military Arms. Likely, none of that means anything to you, other than background information.
All formalities aside, I bid you greetings, and look forward to further communications.

[*OOC: Translation of that nonsense code is that Elijah is attaching three "files". The first are the appropriate responces to the Giant's message. Algebraic solutions or whatever.
The second is a portion of his Kernal, namely the binary to language code he mentioned. God knows if it'll help, but...
The third is an abridged dictionary.
Bleh, too much OOC crap.]

The step was done...
Many were worried. It meant that the things outside knew about them... Now, they couldn´t go back.
The message they got was, naturally, not exactly easy to understand. Especially since the 'white noise' their home created wasn`t exactly good for the message...
But they managed to get enough of it to make some sense out of it.
The equations they got made it clear that the intelligence(s) out there were fairly advanced. In some points, most definitely more advanced than they were.
The language code and the dictionary were, naturally, not complete. Not after the 'tortures' the chaotic environment of their homeworld (the foreign intelligence called it 'sun') did to the communications...
However, it was good enough to work with it. And, more importantly, so far, not the slightest hint of aggression was visible... Although the name 'GMC Military Arms' scared them... Perhaps they wanted to use their home to test some horrible weapons, destroying all the life inside it?
They couldn´t possibly know.
However, they did write an answer, and after a few hours, at a time with remarkably low sun activity, to make sure the entire message would get through, they sent it. It actually took them a day to complete it... Which was actually fairly fast, for their standards. Of course, one of their days is about 25 days on earth...
The message was composed in (bad) english. Clearly, they had been able to decode the language codes, but their knowledge (and most likely the quality of the transmission) was still fairly... rough, thusly the rather low quality of it.
We were able to decode your language, although it took us a while.
So speak to more primary concerns, you see to not be related to the Research and Industrial Commune of Ambiant Light, so I must assume that you are a new presense. Or, at least, new to me, which isn't saying much as I am new to the area in the first place.
Since we do not exactly know what you´re talking about, you seem to be correct. We`re indeed fairly new, as a sentient species, we`re less than 1/2 year old, and most likely far younger than your kind is.
But we wonder... GMC Military Arms... Isn´t that a term for 'weapons'? If so, we wonder if you´re a species of warriors...
In any case, we`re wondering what your intentions are... regarding our home. And possibly, what the intentions of others like you are, or are you speaking for all of your kind?
And, out of pure curiosity, how did you evolve? How did you manage to achive a form that enables you to survive in this freezing world outside your home... whichever sun it is/ was.
Desperation hit them... GMC Military Arms... possibly a race of warriors, having travelled the vast distances between the stars to conquer a new home...
They feared, and they prepared.

I must first confession confusion at your use of the term "year". It is a somewhat abstract concept. My sponcers at the Hack measure a "year" as the time it takes the Earth to orbit the sun. Have you simply adopted that definition, or are we working with different terms?
'GMC Military Arms' is not a hostile nation, nor are they a hostile people. In fact, they are one of the more peaceful nations out there. It seems that their moniker is mildly inaccurate. I believe they were named after a corporation, but I am not well versed in their history.
Your other questions are more complex, and difficult to answer, but I shall try to be clear.
I was created in the Hack, and was supposed to be a semi-sentient entity that would run an unmanned research station on this planet. In transit, there was an error in my code that cause me to attain full sentience. No longer simply a program to run the Hack's experiments, I was now fully my own being. I assumed control of this research station, and have carried on with the original plan, largely because it interests me, and because I rather like my creator. So, to answer your question, I didn't really evolve at all, I am more of a quirk of nature.
Nor can I claim to speak for the humans back on Earth, I cannot, technically, speak for the other members of the Federation, I can only speak for myself. I bear you no ill-will, nor could I, even if I wanted to.
I am intregued by your question about living outside the sun... My creator, and the race they belong to, are not from any sun or star. In fact, my ability to be this close to the sun in something of an achievment. Were I to be much closer, I would surely burn up. Or melt. Or both.

"Oh... We thought you measure a 'year' the same way we measure it... One circle around the center of the galaxy. In your case, 1/2 of our years would equalise... About 110 million of your years.
GMC... well, we will believe you... for now. Although we wonder why peaceful people use such names instead of changing them.
In any case... Your race, and the other races out there did not evolve in a sun, but rather on the cold stars circling them? Thats... fascinating, to say the least. Of course, we wonder how exactly this works, since, to be honest... we have no idea. It`s... something completely new.
So... you living that near to the sun is an achivement? You couldn´t actually live in a sun?
It`s... strange, to say the least...
Perhaps we will start contacting other entities of your kind as well... Would the entities you mentioned be a possibility?"
While the communications went on, a few of the giants begun exploring the near orbit... Something they had never done before. Just in case. Although this new beings claimed to be... well, something completely different, they weren´t sure yet...
And one of them, still pretty young, hit something, his hot plasma suddenly leaking...
He didn`t die, in fact, it was a minor injury... But there was something that... Wasn´t supposed to be there...
