BitingReality announces mandatory cannibalism law (open RP)

PIRUS, BitingReality- In a move that no doubt will send shockwaves throughout the MuchBoards region- and maybe even the world- the RomeW province of BitingReality announced today that one out of every four people unfit for work in the province's gruelling war factories will be ordered to submit themselves to the nation's slaughterhouses in order to enter the BitingReality food supply.

Almost immediately after the edict was passed, Roman Emperor Paul XII- who supervises BitingReality government- denounced the law and said he will do "whatever it takes to get them to repeal it. We do believe in the freedom of our vassal states to do whatever they please, but sometimes we must step in and ensure that all of the citizens under Roman supervision have at least some semblance of human rights."

The situation is a sticky one for RomeW, who in 1996 declared five of its provinces- BitingReality, Roman Gaul, Constantinople-Byz, The Province Of The Bactrians and Hispania-Romano- to be "fully autonomous states under the supervision of the Roman government", meaning that they are legally able to run their provinces any way they want (OOC aside: the five provinces are all seperate, created NS nations that I control) so long as RomeW approves (among other provisions, like the payment of a tribute and the supplication of "resources" to the Roman state). However, the boundaries for which RomeW is allowed to intervene are rather vague- the 1996 proclamation (called The Roman Federation Act or RFA) allowed Roman intervention only in "extreme" situations, and Roman Emperor Paul XII- who presided over the emancipation of his own provinces- sat by idly while the BitingReality government repealed human rights, barcoded its citizens and signed deals with the province's corporations to keep the wealthy above the law. At the time, Paul went out and defended BitingReality's right to enact those laws "because of the province's rights under the RFA", but many believe the real reason is because BitingReality's policies allow its economy to provide RomeW a hefty tribute. Now that Paul XII is facing re-election, he may be "stepping in" just to save himself. "He's not interested in the people of the Roman Empire," said Paul's cheif opponent Rodin Hartian. "He's only interested in himself. He'll only help out the Romans if he sees fit to it".

The law was passed earlier this morning and is expected to be enacted within a month.

"Paul To Travel To BitingReality To Relieve Tensions"

ROME(W)- Emperor Paul XII has decided to travel personally to BitingReality with the hopes of resolving quickly the recent controversy surrounding BitingReality's decision to order mandatory cannibalism of citizens in the province who are unable to work.

"We are not willing to fight," said Paul in front of throngs of reporters in a campaign-style stop outside of the RomeW airport. "We wish to resolve this peacefully...we cannot afford fragmentation."

However, the man who probably will be Paul's chief opponent, RomeW businessman Rodin Hartian, expressed dissatisfaction over Paul's comments. "So now that there's an election coming up Paul's going to act nice and try to protect his own subjects? Huh! What a concept! Tell me, Paul, where were you when BitingReality barcoded its citizens? Or outlawed political parties? Or censored completely its newspapers? The people needed you then...yet you were not there. Was it because there was no election then? Paul should stop thinking of himself and start thinking for the Roman people for a change."

Hartian says he's going to "monitor" the situation but wouldn't go any further.

"No progress made in talks"

PIRUS, BitingReality- Roman Emperor Paul XII told reporters outside of the BitingReality capital that he had made "no progress" in talks with the BitingReality government to end their mandatory cannibalism law.

"I am disappointed, but the battle is far from over," said Paul to the throngs of reporters. "We still have quite some time to let talks progress...hopefully we can resolve the matter peacefully and diplomatically."

Paul would not divulge the details of the meeting, only stating that BitingReality is "unreasonable" and "stubborn". His potential opponent in the upcoming elections, Rodin Hartain, disagrees.

"It's plainly obvious that Paul is hiding something," said Hartian in RomeW. "Otherwise, why wouldn't he tell us what's going on? If he's going to screw over RomeW badly, he should face it like a man instead of hiding like the coward he is."

The talks are expected to continue within the next few weeks.

Disgusting. When we have deal with the elven rubbish, and the traitors, we will turn our eyes towards you. Sickening. And the fact that the Emperor refuses to flex his strength and force the cannibals to conform demonstrates his own weakness.

We will return RomeW to strength.

BitingReality Governor Pietro Ribelli looked exhaspirated. The talks were going nowhere.

"No matter what you do or say, you're not going to encroach on my province's freedom. We have a pact that expressly says so," stammered Ribelli.

"No. The pact clearly states that you have to give your country at least a few human rights. You are free to oppress them, but only to a point. You are not allowed to go to extremes and you've gone to an extreme," replied Roman Emperor Paul XII.

"Who are you to decide what is extreme? And, if you're calling this action extreme, where were you when we decided to barcode all our citizens? Or abolished minimum wage? Or forced them into the military (which, I might add, funds your own defence)? Aren't those extremes?"

"I realized I shouldn't have turned a blind eye to all that, but at the time I felt I could take it. I cannot anymore. You've stepped over the line. I have two very powerful nations ready to back me up should I decide to use force. You WILL comply."

"I see. When things don't go your way you decide to bring in your friends just so you can get your own way. You really don't care about anyone other than yourself. Well, I'm sorry Paul, but the talks are over. Bring in your friends and you will see how sorry you'll be for being selfish."

With that, Ribelli stormed out of the room.

OOC: I found some time to post, not a lot, but some time.

IC: Emperor Paul XII sighed. This is what he wanted to avoid.

"A war? What will the Roman electorate think?" He had to find a way to get out of it.

"No. I can't go to war. Tommorow I will call him up and tell him to reopen talks."

Then, as he walked to his plane to leave, he saw it was surrounded by BitingReality security personnel, and they wouldn't let him fly out. He had to go to war. So he telegramed his General and made the order to invade BitingReality tommorow.

"Interesting," Zina said, reclining in her chair as she chewed thoughtfully on a roasted finger. She shook her head, amused. "They're making cannibalism compulsory?"

She picked up a piece of paper and began scribbling.

Yn introduced cannibalism a long time ago (long before that issue came out). There are laws regulating the killing and consuming of people, and Yn imports prisoners from other nations for consumption. We don't push our own people into slaughterhouses, though.

The Roman tanks rolled right up to the capital of BitingReality at Pirus without any resistence. They stopped just short of the walled capital and did not attack. They instead issued an ultimatum:

To BitingReality Governor Pietro Ribelli:

We have your capital city surrounded. We will not let anything through to the city unless we get our demands met. We demand the safe return of our Emperor, Paul XII immediately within the next few days and wish to reopen talks in the hopes of providing a diplomatic solution to the problem at hand. If you do not meet our demands, we wil declare war.

The tanks waited patiently for Ribelli to reply.

We believe that Special Forces strikes along with helicopter gunships. Supported by Roman conventional military forces will be sufficient to capitulate the enemy government. The People's Congress approved my proposal to mobilize the 45th and the 93rd Red Hammer companies, along with the 13th and 34th Ground attack wings. Thank you. We definitely will. We even suggest that you also follow through with the practice- it greatly helps the economy.

Governor Pietro Ribelli, BitingReality.

"In fact, I'm upping the ante...," said Ribelli. He got up to the balcony at the capitol, and made a new government proclamation:

"All 'obese' people who refuse to participate in the mandatory exercise program or who are 'too heavy' to participate shall be deemed 'unfit' and thus will be part of the personnel from which those attending the slaughterhouses will be chosen."

He went back into the capitol and disregarded the military threat before him. "They don't know who they're messing with." He then ordered the military to attack. "RomeW, your war is on."

The Tu-95s (Modified into transports) taxied down the runway and flew off towards their target...

19 hours and 2 mid air refuelings later

Yevgeny Nikolai and his men had been flying on the plane all day. The squadron had encountered no resistance and from what he could tell, they were nearing the drop zone. A red light came on near the pilots door. "Okay, get ready!" The men lined up near the jump door. Nikolai glanced back, the light had turned green. He hated HALO jumps. "Go, Go, Go!" The men filed out of the plane...

To the Hattian Forces:

The time for attack is now. Deploy and (once at Pirus) fire at will.[/code:1:7616b94ab5]

After sending the telegram, General Emitria Udio decided to launch the attack. "Fire! Fire at will! Break down the wall and search for the Emperor!"

With that, the Roman tanks rained a torrent of volleys on Pirus, never at all letting up. Udio was worried about his rear flank, but he knew he had Hattian back-up coming soon. He didn't think the war would take long- he just hoped that Emperor Paul XII would end up alive.
BitingReality

The noise was deafening. The constant bombardment of artillery and bombs rocking the BitingReality capital was enough to make Governor Pietro Ribelli's head spin. "This is getting annoying...and it doesn't seem like showing any signs of stopping."

He grinned though. Most of his army lay in the periphery of BitingReality and were descending on the Roman army. The Romans were laying Pirus to siege, but soon their army would be under siege. He wasn't worried at all about the wreckage surrounding him- the Romans would have to pay for it anyway. He worried that his economy might take a hit from all the damage the bombardment caused, but Pirus had only 1/8th of BitingReality's total economy so he wasn't that worried.

Outside of Pirus, the BitingReality army finally made its way to the Roman army laying siege to the Romans. "Open fire!" came the command, after which a torrent of artillery rained down on the Roman tanks. Ribelli again grinned. "I have RomeW where I want them...there's no escape now."
RomeW
09-02-2004, 10:21
Suddenly he heard an explosion to the rear of his tank. "Turn around! Turn around quickly!" screamed General Emitria Udio.

With that, all of Udio's tanks turned their guns around, though some tanks in the back got badly dented due to the fire. He was fortunate not to lose anything, but he didn't like being boxed in. They continued sending volley after volley at the BitingReality tanks and were able to hold them back, though he couldn't find an opening to exploit and finish them off. He wondered how long his defences could hold up. Should he call for more? Should he stay? He knew Hattia's army was close by...so he decided to wait and hold them off until Hattia got there. He should be safe until then.

OOC: Off to bed.

OOC: What kind of tanks is BitingReality using?

"Omega 1, to all choppers. Allies under attack from behind, move to assist immediately." The Ka-53s reversed course and headed to the rear of the Roman formations, "Weapons free!" The choppers began launching a barrage of 'Sniper' anti tank missiles, and 'Shotgun' flechette missiles at the enemy.

"Everyone stay low and move into that house." The Red Hammer commandoes ran across the open field and hid in a house on the outskirts of Pirus. They covered their comrades as they did the same. The Romans had the enemy all tied up, it was going to make their job much easier...

OOC: What kind of tanks is BitingReality using?

OOC: In all honesty, I know very little about military technology...I just know of the generic equipment like "tanks" and "guns" and am unaware of the different models and what they're capable of. BitingReality's tanks and weaponry are middle of the pack (as the top line equipment in the Empire is in RomeW)- not high-end but not garbage either. The Roman tanks and weaponry are top of the line.

IC: Suddenly, the BitingReality corps were being attacked from behind and now faced attack on both sides. It was the Hattian army firing, one of the strongest in the world. Governor Pietro Ribelli sat in stunned silence, unsure of what to do. He still sat in defiance, refusing to give up despite the obviously dire situation he was in.

"Keep firing! Don't let up! We'll win!" screamed Ribelli. The only thing different this time was that Ribelli lost his confidence- all he had left was a naive stubborness that was clouding his judgement. The BitingReality defence was being effectively held back, and it was only a matter of time before the Roman-Hattian forces would break down his walls and claim victory.

OOC: Will check back in a couple of hours

One of the strongest in the world

Why thank you, though there are many militaries much better than mine.

"Get those grappling hooks on the walls!" The Red Hammer companies had reached the city wall and were attempting to scale it. Machine gunners on the ground pinned down enemies on the wall as their comrades attempted to climb up. Commander Nikolai was the first on the top, his bayonet skewering 3 enemies, "Come on, these conscripts are no match for us!"

OOC: You're welcome. It's certainly stronger than BitingReality's forces, that's for sure.

IC: The Hattian forces quickly and easily scaled the walls surrounding Pirus, obliterating the feeble resistence that lay in its path. The Roman war machine continued its assault, raining shell after shell on the capitol though letting up now that Hattia had broken through. A dejected Governor Pietro Ribelli saw that the battle was lost, and flung himself into an oncoming shell and killed himself.

Seeing that their Governor was dead, the soldiers immediately stopped their resistence and offered to surrender. They had been embarassed enough.

Suddenly, the BitingReality corps stopped their attack. A soldier walked out accompanied by a deshevilled man.

"I think this is what you want," said the soldier, handing the Roman General Emitria Udio Roman Emperor Paul XII. "We come to offer peace."

Udio immediately accepted. "Stop your fire!" ordered Udio to the troops in his command. "Tommorow we will go into the city and clean up, and speak to the BitingReality council to discuss the armistice agreement."

He immediately telegrammed Yevgeny Nikolai, commander of the Hattian forces:

[code:1:8a93e133f1]To Commander Yevgeny Nikolai of the Hattian Red Hammer Division:

We have received Emperor Paul XII safely and soundly and are pleased to announce that BitingReality has surrendered. Thank you for your help in the battle and tommorow our two camps shall cleanup the city and broker the armistice agreement.[/code:1:8a93e133f1]

He was happy the battle ended quickly, but he wondered what the long-term reprecussions would be.

Such gruesome proposals would travel fast among most of the states found upon the planet. Though it does depend on the states' laws on the media, knowledge, and on information. Though to this newly created nation, such news were passing through the small population like wildfire, but soon it would pass through its self-appointed leader... then to its people.

"Cannibalism. An interesting idea. Though ethically, and morally wrong to the masses. It could perhaps deal with future problems in the judicial system, though focused more on the criteria of punishment. Efficiency is the key, and the dead would surely serve a purpose for their afterlife."

Such was expected from the leader of the infant nation of Steel Magnolia. It would seem his country would be created by fear, but it was more along the lines of fanaticism. Religions will be tolerated. But the law under their leader is the only law.

And so the nation of Steel Magnolia sends forth its anthropologists/sociologists to the nation of BitingReality.

Udio walked through the rubble that formed Pirus' suburban core. He was saddened, really, to see Pirus devastated like this. Such a wonderful city...oh why did it have to fall to a crackpot dictator?

He estimated that, at best, it would take about a month to rebuild Pirus...but, he hoped, this time it could be for the better. All he really hoped for was that BitingReality got a government that actually cared for its people- but what to make of Pietro Ribelli's supporters? He didn't want to think of that now- the cleanup effort was going to long and arduous. He can worry about the other things later.
