Comrades in Christ!

The time has come to put a formal end to the years of bloody hate and animosity that has existed between our most sovereign Christian states. No longer do the evils of the foreign despots or petty tryanny keep us apart, finally we can renew our Christian fellowship!
One man did free a people as one Man redeemed the world. Mirbach you were that man for Lavenrunz. You went into battle with bare hands. You stood up before the foreigner as Christ hung naked before men on the tree, You restored Noble Aurora to he rightful place .....You defeated the metahuman as Christ defeated death!
I would be my eternal privilege, if my honoruable Lord Mirbach and the noble Empress Aurora would do us the honour of coming to our land, so we may honour you both for your achievements and lay a formal conclusion to the violence that once was so common between us.

The man was the bugbear of her childhood, the enemy of her mother, the ruthless madman...the strange man who like some prophet of the Old Testament save children on the one hand and doom them on the other. Loathing and fascination warred in her.

It is natural for us to want peace. It was ever the envy for the strength our friendship would bring that has kept us apart, the overmuch influence of the Noldorin Empire. But now, as it is written "the former things are passed away".
Lavenrunz has put aside childish things, and stands firmly on her own two feet, embodied in Aurora, our glorious monarch under God.
Dear brother in Christ, for our people's sake, let us find some way to have peace between us that no more will we be forced to put our energies towards warring with one another when there is so much good work to be done in the world!
Her Majesty is most amenable to the idea of a visit, and we should work out the details as soon as possible.

Today is a historical day in Lavenrunz as Empress Aurora von Sachshausen and her head of government Count Mirbach embark for Iesus Christi to begin overtures of peace between the two nations. All former attempts at treaty were made in foreign dominions or in neutral territory. Many Lavenrunzians are concerned, and the Churches and Cathedrals of Lavenrunz are packed with those praying that the meeting is in earnest and for the betterment of both nations..."

Aurora smiled, waving to the crowds of people at the barricades waving flags and flowers as she ascended to her plane. Count Mirbach, Baroness Toll, Baron Ehrfurt, General von Baden and the rest of the entourage followed her in.
There were tears in many eyes. Many people paused at the televisions in shop windows or listened keenly to radio news describing the event. Many a sigh was uttered as the plane took off for Iesus Christi.
It was met by a relay of fighters that escorted it across the waters that bordered the Channel Islands till they were met by an escort of Iesus Christian fighters and were on their way...

Aurora laughed to herself, thinking of the song she had just made up as the Channel Islands dwindled behind and the lands of St. Dominic and Iesus Christi were glimpsed beneath the clouds.

The sun is shining on the broad streets and on the masses of people out here today. They stand tightly packed....young and old, men and women, workers and white collar workers, retirees and artists, people of every kind. More kept coming. There is Count Mirbach, chancellor of Lavenrunz, a man whose intelligence and earthy humour are appreciated by millions of people around the world. The enemies of humanity fear him because of his resolute fight for peace and the principles of peaceful coexistence. Riding with him is the youthful and beautiful Empress Aurora, oh what times we live in! Oh the joyful humanity! Praise God that I lived to see this day! Aurora, Mirbach and Lady Iesus are greeting the masses....Oh the beautiful of this day will live forever!Oh the motorcade is slowing and a group of bright happy "Iesus youth' children has charge up to then and present them flowers. Oh the smiles of the children ! If only I could hear what was being said down in that car but the roar of the crowd is far far to loud...but one thing is for sure ... This was any intelligence employees worst nightmare.

Both the Prime Minister of Lavenrunz and the Empress visiting the Reich. After they had taken numerous political prisoners from SATO nations, and after the Syskeyian embassy incident.

Have these Lavenrunzians gone insane or are the rumours true, he wondered. This is a either a bad thing or a very bad thing...

"It is one thing to sue for peace, it would be quite another to schmootch with the Reich like that... fascistoid...", muttered an AIVD intelligence officer tasked with monitoring the situation.

"And of course, getting spies into the Reich is rather impossible, and those in Lavenrunz don't have a clue yet. This is bad. Very bad. The dream scenario would be peace with the Reich, but peace for whom? For us? Unlikely, unless the Count can work miracles."
He didn't even ponder his worst nightmare: Lavenrunz realigning itself. After all, the possibilities of the Empire leaving the alliance was rather real, or at least it was back... "aaargh"

The whole situation gave him a big headache. "We should just have blown the guy up when we had the chance."

The Legio snapped to attention as the Empress , Bridgette and Mirbach walked past them up the stairs of the ‘palace of the people'. Outside the gates of the palace was now swarmed with cheering and saluting citizens. Chants and slogans carried from over a million jubilant people.
As the honoured guests reached the top of the stairs, one of the officers of the guarding legio troopers broke all discipline and yelled at Mirbach "God save you Sir! You have remembered your father the Macabees! HEIL MIRBACH!"
Bridgette glared as the guarding troopers joined in and began chanting
"Heil Mirbach Heil Mirbach"
Mirbach, Aurora and bridgette all stood at the top of the stairs, Bridgette whispered to the Lavenrunzian , urging them to enjoy the chant that now carried from the guards to the entire crowd.....
"ATTENTION" The guards ceased the chant as Matthew Iesus appeared at the doors of the ‘palace of the people'..... he advanced on Mirbach and aurora, and before any words could be spoken threw his arms around Mirbach and embraced him. The crowd howled in delight as Matthew bear hugged the Chancellor
"HEIL IESUS! HEIL LAVENRUNZ!" the screams and cheers were now deafening....
Releasing Mirbach from the embrace , Matthew spoke calmly to his guests "Heil Mirbach , welcome to Iesus Christi brother in Christ..and this must be..."
Matthew turned to Aurora , clicked his jack booted heels together and took her hand "Empress Aurora, blessed be you whom the crucified one anointed and whom Mary leads..." Matthew Kissed her hand and locked his eyes on hers "it is my greatest honour to have your company . Another flower of Lavenrunz in Iesus Christi and in my life"
Matthew paused for a moment
"Now..let us retire inside while the people watch the planned fireworks displays..."

The chanting profoundly embarassed Mirbach. It was not his sort of thing at all; the charismatic cults of personality that Iesus Christi fostered belied his social beliefs. He saw himself as a Lavenrunzian Cincinnatus, but he was honest enough to acknowledge the fierce ambition to effect change and lead his nation to proper glory.
What did utterly thrill him, though was that when he glanced carefully at the Empress to see how she was taking it, he saw that she smiled at him. It shook him. It was a smile of...compassion. Enjoy your moment, the smile said.
In his blue Imperial Air Force uniform, medals gleaming, craggy features and sharp blue eyes penetrating, he was a striking figure.
The Empress, by contrast, was both woman and child, somehow frail and indomitable at the same time.
Their little group of bodyguards and attendants followed; Baroness Toll, Baron Ehrfurt and of course the prowling dappled Thirty Camelias, whose yellow eyes took everything in.
Count Mirbach said quietly to Bridgette, in a parade ground voice that carried without being a shout, "It is a great pleasure to make your acquaintance at last. Through God's grace, I hope to see our nations follow the will and the example of Christ. For it is truly said that no land may prosper without being under the mandate of heaven."
Empress Aurora found herself blushing under the gaze of the Lord Protector. She met his eyes, but oddly dizzy doing so. Those eyes... "I am glad to have come." she found herself smiling at him. "These are the famous Legio? You should be very proud of them..."

"Yes the Legio...I was Legio Maria myself...but all the legio are proud forces! now lets move eh?" Matthew edged the party inside, his hand on Auroras back as they talked and walked.

".......Sometimes one says that a person is the soul of a battle or of resistance. Mirbach proves that this is more than a nice phrase. It applies to him so well that one would have had to invent the phrase if it had not already existed in the Lavenrunz tongue. Many a man has had power. Many can give orders. And some have the inner greatness that justifies their power and gives their orders power. Mirbach follows in the tradition of Matthew Iesus.....Mirbach will lead his people to their rightful place!
Mirbach lives in his grenadiers....He lives in the men and women of his people, who with stubborn loyalty and confidence do the impossible..... All Lavenrunz virtue, bravery, good will, intelligence and sense of duty follows his example. He is the voice within them that accompanies their deeds and helps them overcome all obstacles.

The Iesus officer ended his speech , Matthew saluted him and the officer happily saluted back. The speech hadn't been a short one....but Matthew noted none of the Laverunzians were slumping in their seats.
Then came a group of 30 "Iesus youth' school girls, aged from 6-16. lining up with parade ground efficiently, they started their poem.
"We are the door that leads to the future.
We are the tree on which fruit ripens,
That which inspires us, that which is holy to us,
Is planted once again, strong and pure,
No one can take it from our soul.
We carry in our hearts the light
You spread to your people,
We want to be its loyal guardians,
Passing it on pure, unchanged,
Through our bodies into new life. "

Matthew stood up and clapped
"excellent! God bless you all! each and everyone of you!"
The youngest girl, about 6 came forward, her big brown eyes were wide open with awe and excitement. Matthew Knelt next to her "Do you have something to say to us?"
the little girl blushed and remained quiet.
Matthews face went suddenly stern , his voice became harsh "Now...you know you must answer the Fuhrer and be honest with him always! "
The Little girl looked as if she would flee in terror or die of fear but then Matthews face broke into a smile "now tell us what you were going to say....be a big brave girl not a dirty Elven coward! be brave for the Fuhrer!"
The girl smiled "I made this for you Mirbach!...." she handed Mirbach a crude drawing she had made.
"that's a very pretty picture Emma, I'm very proud of you"
The girl turned , her eyes wider than ever in shock and awe. The fuhrer knew her name! She threw her arms around Matthews neck and almost screamed "I love you Fuhrer Matty!"
Everyone laughed including Matthew but before the girl could be embarrassed Matthew said "Thank you very much" and gave her a kiss on the check, then standing back he saluted the girls as way of dismissing them.

Aurora is barely able to contain a fit of the giggles at the 'Fuhrer Matty'. It makes her think of the comic song that the Lavenrunzian propaganda ministry wrote about him.
She was a bit uncomfortable about the way he kept putting his hand on her back, but he was so charming that she decided she was being paranoid. Anyway, Count Mirbach would never let anything happen to her.
He was also clever, the Lord Protector--or at least his power machine was. She never had a chance to speak to the girls, for instance.
Mirbach found the cult of personality embarassing. And he decided to speak about it. "You do flatter me, Lord Protector." he said quietly. "But I am really at heart a simple country gentleman. I served my nation as a warrior in the air, and now as a politician. But, like Cinncinatus, I intend to return to my estate once Lavenrunz is safe again."

Now it was Bridgettes turn to contain a fit of giggles as she stood beside her brother listening to Mirbach that man could use a drink...
"simple gentleman indeed sir! you are a hero! like my brother Matthew...and like Our Lord protecter, you will always have another battle to fight! shall we retire to the chapel...it is a perfect place to discuss private matters" Bridgette took Mirbachs hand and smiled at him sweetly.
Matthew nodded and let bridgette lead the way with Mirbach, while he walked behind them talking with Aurora. Very rarely did he break eye contact as they talked.
"The chapel of the Sacred Heart of Mary, the place I come to when I feel tormented or haunted....I let the Blessed Virgin lead me...as has all my family over the years....I hope we can achieve something here today...I would hate to think this was as pointless as shovelling feathers over a fence..."

Aurora said softly, "I hope not too. Lord Protector, there is no reason on Earth why two Christian nations should not be able to have peace. Doesn't Saint Paul write "Who among you, being in dispute, goes to the law and not to his bretheren?" So it should be with us." she met his gaze, but she felt weak kneed and unnerved. He seemed so intense. But she was resolute; she was her mother's daughter.
Count Mirbach smiled at Bridgette. "Ah, dear lady, you make me believe it, you truly do!" he felt sad looking at her. She was a woman who had suffered--and there were dreadful rumors about her that were probably mostly true.

"Gentle Sir, I only ever speak the truth. You are the hope of a nation. The old way of tyranny lies dead beneath your mighty form." Bridgette shot a look back at Aurora "and now the beautiful flower blossoms......the flower of liberty that is...you will lead your people to a golden age"
Waiting at the door of the chapel for Matthew and Aurora to finally catch up, all four entered the small chapel. It windowless and cold interior was only illuminated by small lamps that cast long shadows over the Altar and the large statue of the blessed Virgin Mary with her sacred heart.
Both Iesus children knelt and kissed the feet of the statue as they entered and recited in traditional song the ancient homage....outside in the corridor the guards followed suit, devotion to the Blessed lady was a nation wide craze.

Standing, Bridgette smiled and waved for Aurora and Mirbach to sit while Matthew approached the Altar and took from it the box that had been waiting there ...
Carrying the box , which was little bigger than a hat box , Matthew brought it back to Aurora, Knelt before her and lifted it up to her, opening it as he did.
" I present to you the head of Mullar Faz Rahman ...Shiek of North Star and leader of the United Muslim brotherhood here in the Reich. May this be a sign of our devotion to the cause of what is righteous in this world"
Bridgette smiled as she looked at the head, it was already rotting thanks to it having been left on the altar awaiting the visit of these honoured heroes. Then she exclaimed in a far too excited voice.....
"Heil Iesus! Heil Lavenrunz! Death to the enemy!"

Aurora could not help but recoil at the ghastly stench and the sight of the thing.
She took a deep breath--through her mouth--and said, "I see. We similarly behead our enemies--though we rarely offer them as gifts. But I thank you." her eyes look curiously into Matthew's. "You stand with us against those who wrongfully attacked us then? You stand for our cause?"
Count Mirbach listened intently. He also felt prouder of Aurora than he ever had--she had been through at lot, but it had been a refiner's fire...

"We stand for the cause of is right. Iesus will always stand against what is wrong.
We live in the spirit of Jesus Christ, and we die in that spirit, that thought must stay with us always....
it is gratifying to live in this world...but living has a sense of futility about it..I simply wait for time I must die for My Lord and God.
My Only search is in life now is for the enemies of God and his law...."
Matthew paused
"Now how about some food and drink?"

"That would be most welcome, Lord Protector." said Aurora quietly.
Count Mirbach nodded. "Lord Protector, Lady Minister, I grieve for those who are not free in the world. I am concerned that there are still such vile races as the Eldar, for instance, who delight not merely in enslaving humans but in mutilating their prisoners...in the filth of vampirism and of genetic manipulation, which are abominations spoken of in the Book of Revelation and by the Prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah.." he shook his head. "Can we call ourselves Christian and righteous while they are enslaved?" he held out his hand. "Brother, I tell you that they surely laugh while we oppose one another, Lavenrunz and Iesus Christi."

"The filth of the metahuman and vampirism is of the greatest concern to us, for you see Iesus Christi is pure and free of such things....and we do desire the rest of the world to be free of these evils!
If today we can declare our universal friendship, the heavens will rejoice and evil will shudder! " Matthew gripped Mirbachs hand

Bridgette clapped and ordered refreshments brought in.

Count Mirbach said, "I most heartily agree, my dear Iesus. Nor, to be blunt, will we ever again be led astray by elves or genetic freaks like the Ienothae."
Aurora frowned, but Mirbach said with a sigh, "My Empress...you know what happened with your mother."
The girl felt herself wrenched, and a tear slipped down her face. A look of sorrow--that somehow blended with youthful majesty--was cast at Matthew. "They seduced her, you know...they led her to do such..." her voice trembled. "Such awful things. Mama was such a lonely woman, and it was her downfall. It was God's inspiration that led her to friendship with you. Originally she just wanted to protect weak Athenys, because she had you know such a gentle heart. But then..." Aurora brushed at the freely running tears, "She wanted peace but Sirithil wouldn't let her. Those awful people, that Chimaean Prime Minister, that Michael Sukhothai and the rest, they wanted war so much, the greedy pigs."
"Ah, Majesty," said Mirbach, moved deeply, "It will not happen again. We will steer our own way, you will see. We will not mock God again by warring on our coreligionaries."
"I don't hate her." said Aurora softly, looking at Matthew and Bridgette, "But my Mother was wrong to trust her so much. Her interests are elvish ones. Forgive me, Lord Protector, Lady Minister, but I want so much for my people to be strong and free."

"Your Mother was once someone I truly admired....then she gave herself over to the Elf....she gave herself to Satan! Your mother betrayed you..she betrayed Lavenrunz and worst of all she betrayed Christ! She lost her soul in this battle....I only pray the same doesn't happen to you...
I pray you have the courage, honour and faith to carry out what your mother failed at....lest you should meet her fate! I would have been her friend, I offered her my hand in friendship when we first meet but she wouldnt let Christ live in her heart"
Matthew placed his hands on Auroras shoulders "let us pray you will triumph and restore Lavenrunz to her place as a jewel of Paradise"

Aurora found herself trembling with rage. "How dare you! You aren't the Messiah--what gives you the right to judge my mother?"
Count Mirbach, seeing everything teetering on the edge of disaster, said sharply, "Lord Protector, this intemperate speech ill becomes you. Whatever you may think, Her Late Majesty was the sovereign ruler of Lavenrunz, and we cannot tolerate such remarks."

"I don't regret a word of it, just because someone is a ruler or a royal doesn't mean they are somehow perfect or immune to criticism.
I knew her before and after her tainting. She showed mercy to me when I took my Love Anna to be my wife, she showed pity when she was stolen from me. That was a woman who lived and loved in Christ!
Then she changed.....her heart was hard to Christ...she was lured by the Elf..
I'll be damned if I wont say the truth just because it isn't what you want to hear..
The truth sets us all free."

Aurora said coldly, "I refuse to listen to this."
Count Mirbach looked at Matthew Iesus grimly and said, "Can I talk to you in private for just a moment, please?"

"of course.....Bridgette will look after Aurora I'm sure"

Count Mirbach said in a harsh whisper, "Lord Protector, whatever you think of the Empress Joanna, She was Empress Aurora's mother. She is only fourteen. I insist that you stop villifying Her mother. Do not endanger our peace over a few words that you could easily just not speak of." his eyes stare fiercely into Matthew's.

" I shouldnt speak the truth? the truth doesnt change just because because it affects those we love...
I executed my own uncle...many others in my own family have suffered because of their treason against the state and God. Would you have me judge you by a different standard than I use on myself...."

Count Mirbach snapped coldly, "I mean, Lord Protector, and I say this with all respect--don't be such a damned fool. Make a choice--do you want to be right about something that's moot--the state of the soul of a woman who's dead--or do you want a good workable treaty between our two nations? You can't have both. Make a choice."

"why is it always a either/or situation? we cant we address the truth..
I want a treaty, I want peace, but not at the expense of the truth...I'm not going to sit down and make peace with a Tryant Empress in the making..."

Count Mirbach says quietly, "Lord Protector, I'm sure that when you deal with Moslems that they manage not to tell you that they don't believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. I am sure that you don't believe that Mohammed is your Prophet. Nevertheless, I am also sure that you contrive some means not to mention it around one another. If you are incapable of the least courtesy, this is pointless."
