Hello, and welcome to The Roleplayer's Guide to The Greifan Empire. The point of this thread is to put together in one cohesive package all the essential information an RPer needs about my nation in order to conduct an informed roleplay concerning/involving it. Here you will find a list of main characters, maps, history logs, military and economic stats, allies/enemies lists, and much, much more. As the concept of my nation evolves, conditions change, and I find better avatars for my characters :wink: , I will conduct updates of the information found in this thread. Please feel free to post your questions and comments, I will respond the best I can to one and all. So without further ado, I'm going to get to it, cause I have alot of work ahead of me. Cheers!

Ok I know that Diminix uses alternate history and involves itself in WWII(which alters everything after that), do you? And if you do involve yourself in alternate history, what did Preisgrief do during the second war?

Yes, we do have an alternate history. ICly it doesn't affect the rest of NS, because our Earth is in an alternate universe. Presgreif has access to the NS universe through a strange rift at the edge of our solar system our scientists are as of yet at a loss to explain. I will eventually write a full history of Presgreif and post it here. For now, I'm still filling in wholes in the chronology. The history of Presgreif as a nation begins in the mid 1500s, so I have alot of time to cover, and I don't want to post it half ass, I'd rather present a consice, finished work. As I'm sure you are aware, this takes time. I can tell you however that we did have a WWII at about the same time as real Earth. This was a war of defeated democracies and oppressed nations against Presgreif and her allies who had won WWI. Presgreif would go on to win this second world war, not without the use of hydrogen bombs, and the victory would solidify our nation's hegenomy on the European continent. A third world war would eventually lead to global dominance....

Presgreif Version 2.0?

As the story of my nation and its characters has evolved, quite a bit has changed. I've revised my original character concepts and their backgrounds considerably; even their physical appearances have changed in my mind. When I think of what Presgreif was when I first began playing this nation, I realize that it has changed dramaticaly over the past couple of months. That is why I'd like to deem the information I lay out here Presgreif 2.0. I'd like to avoid confusion amongst those who know a bit about my nation. Yes, I have changed the portraits for my characters- to ones I feel better suit their personalities, and how I would like them to look. Yes, their backgrounds have changed, some even considerably. But no, this in no way affects that which I have done in NS so far, my alliances are the same, the coronation remains unchanged, all is as it was. With that said, on with the show.

Important Personages of The Empire

Natalya de Greif, the Empress. None know where she comes from, nor how exactly she convinced the Duke of Konigsberg to hand over his estate to her three hundred years ago. She seems to be undying, and eternaly young. Over the course of those three hundred years she fought three world wars and went from a petty estate holder to ruler of her dimensions Earth. Today, she is an intergalactic leader, and who can guess how far she will go from here? There are many rumors about the source of her apparent immortality, and who and where she was before she became Duchess of Konigsberg. Some even claim that they have good information that she was once one of the Valkyrie, and the only one of her kind to survive Ragnarok. Whatever her true story is, it will be long before it is revealed to the world, should this ever happen. For now, the Empress of the Greif remains an enigma.

Dorian de Greif
Overlord of Terra Presgreif

Dorian has been by Natalya's side the longest out of the eagle's nest of personalities who help her direct her vast Empire. It is known that they first met in Danzig around 1550; she was by all accounts a well to do condotieria then, he, a religious reformist and small land holder. Together they had many an adventure battling with the Catholic church, and he was named her first minister when she took Konigsberg in 1705. It is obvious that she gave him the gift of immortality, but their long relationship is ambiguous at best. It is certain that she took her surname from him, and though even today they claim to be brother and sister, it is still rumored that they were once lovers, and most probably even married. Today, Dorian is the Overlord of Terra Presgreif, ruling their homeworld in his Empress's absence. It is hard to judge his loyalty, and some say he will one day attempt to break away from the Empire and rule Presgreif of his own accord. Being someones underling for over five hundred years can become an unbearable burden for even the most loyal of souls...

Sarah Maria Decados
Archpriestess of The High Passionist Church

The Decados family has been a loyal ally and subject of the Greif since Natalya's first wars of conquest in the mid-eighteenth century. They started out their carrier under Natalya's reign as a small family of merchants who imported rarities from China into Europe. Soon however, many of them would gain high positions in Natalya's ever growing administration, and the Decados would become a permanent feature of her court and her embassies abroud. Of all the Decados, however, the most important to the evolution of Natalya's Empire was Sarah Maria. Born in the year 1841 in Konigsberg, she studied theology at the University there, and became a professor of theology and philosophy at the early age of 22. Her life's work was the Codex Passionista, a religious work which she claimed was the "natural product of the evolution of Christianity". It was published in Presgreif in 1871, and when word spread that the work had captivated Queen Natalya, it won her instant fame throughout Europe. That same year, she was comissioned by the Queen to organize a new church which would adhere to the Codex. And so The High Passionist Church was founded in the early months of 1872, and taken up by Natalya as her domain's official state religion. Sarah became the church's Archpriestess, and having been given the gift, remains in this role permanently. It is thanks to her fanatic belief in the cause of the Passionist church, her untiring missionary work, and her brutal oppression of all those who would not adhere to the new faith that has made it what it is today: an institution of hundreds of millions of people which spreads the light of the one true God across the Empire. It is rumored that Sarah now plans to take her faith to an international level. Only time can tell where this endevour will lead her.

Asakura Hojo
CEO of The Greif-Mitsubishi Conglomerate

In the early 1950s Presgreif underwent a period of unprecedented economic growth and federal centralization. In the name of lowering taxes and securing the jobs of millions, Natalya federalized many of Presgreif's chief industries. She then went one step further, creating government owned firms which would compete in the free market in fields such as automobile manufacturing, electronics, and telecommunications. In such a way, an economic web was formed, and was named the Griffin Associates Zaibatsu. Asakura Hojo became CEO of this mega-corporation in the early years of the 21st century, and has been presented with the daunting task of taking it to the intergalactic level. It is yet to be seen whether he will live up to the Empress's expectations.
update: Asakura Hojo has recently negotiated the merger of GAZ and Mitsubishi. He is now CEO of the Greif-Mitsubishi Conglomerate

Katarina Herodotus
High Admiral of the Greifan Imperial Star Fleet
Grand Duchess of Brass Rails

Katarina is the most recent addition to Natalya's directorate. Before Brass Rails was inherited by the Greifs, her uncle Kanut ruled over that planet under the standard of Diminix. She herself attended flight school and officer training, and spent her early twenties rising through the ranks of the Brass Rails Air and Space Force. When Natalya paid her first visit to Brass Rails, to officialy accept the title of Empress Elect from the parliament, Katarina through no small effort gained an audience with the future Empress. The two became quick friends, they seemed to share a common vision, and it is known that they spent hours alone together discussing many things. A few months after their initial meeting, Natalya named Katarina Regent of Brass Rails. Since the coronation Katarina's title has become void. However she holds a second title, which has up to this point remained classified, and which she has not had the chance to fully exploit. Natalya has named Katarina High Admiral of her fledgling space fleet, and has given Katarina the task of building a great armada for her new Empire. By all accounts, Katarina has plunged into this task head first, and will go to any and all means to prove herself to her new found friend and mistress.
Update: Katarina has recently been given the title of Grand Duchess of Brass Rails in recognition of her extraordinary works for the Empire.

Herod Harlequin
Lord Inquisitor of The High Passionist Church

Little is known about Sarah's first Inquisitor. No one knows where he comes from, when he met her, nor when exactly he recieved his illustrious title. What is known is that Herod is a fanatic believer in the Passionist faith, and a brutal madman who will stop at no lengths to crush any and all opposition to his church within the Empire. Where Herod goes, fear, suffering, and death follow.

For now, the Empress of the Greif remains an enigma.

Passionism is my own personal religious system. If it is to be compared to any denomination, it would most likely be similar to the Calvinist churches, though the similarities are few. I will eventually write up a summary of the Passionist faith. First I want to finish these character profiles, and then get on to the gargantuen task of writing Presgreif's pregame history, so it will be a long time coming.

The character profiles are finished! Well for now at least, I have three or four more waiting for an entrance. Questions and comments are welcome.

I have recently recieved several telegrams from players asking when it is exactly that I plan to post the pre-game history of my nation. I apologize to all those who have been kept waiting; between work and other pressing commitments I have had little time to write, and the original time line has been much expanded and revised, and is growing to monsterous proportions. The only answer I have to your question is: I will post it when it is done. This may still take a while. Please have patience. Thank you for your attention.

A Brief Summary of The Life and Times of Natalya d'Greif

The Beginning

Natalya was born in 1492. In 1517 she stumbled upon, and accidently bonded with, an aspect of the fallen angel Apollyon. Two souls merged into one, a soul and a mind which did not retain the memories of either of its "parents". This new Natalya was an immortal being, a human with many of the telepathic abilities, augemented intelligence, and extreme longevity of a celestial entity.
Natalya has many adventures, yada yada, she takes the name d'Greif (of the griffin), fights alongside the Protestants against Catholic forces in Pommerania and northern Germany, and eventually, in the year 1701, is crowned Queen of The Presbyterian Greif of Pommerania and Prussia, or Presgreif.

The 18th Century

Throughout the 1700s Natalya wages various wars, expanding her realm to include RL Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, East Prussia, Pommerania. She establishes Presgreif as master of the Baltic Sea when she crushes the Russian navy in St. Petersburg Bay in 1779.
Presgreif weathers the Napoleonic wars somehow, usually on the losing end of the conflict until Napoleon turns back from Russia in 1813.

The 19th Century

The early 19th century sees Presgreif wage further wars against Austria and Russia, incorporating RL Poland into its realm.
In the second half of the nineteenth century we see the establishment of the High Passionist Church, Presgreif's own unique Protestant faith, a mixture of Calvinism, the belief in a Greifan "divine destiny", and feminism. We also see the German states unite in a loose confederation, Germania, under Natalya's influence. The Germanian Confederation is nothing like the second Reich of real history, it is something more along the lines of today's EU, and in real terms is nothing more than a Greifan sattelite state. While the other European powers engage in a race to colonize Africa and the Far East, Presgreif centralizes its resources, and spends the next three decades strengthening itself from within and preparing for an inevitable European conflict.

World War One

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the European powers divide into two factions. On one side we have the LRKA (London-Rome-Konigsberg Alliance), which consists of Great Britain, Presgreif, and the newly formed nation of Italy. On the other side we have the PVMIA (Paris-Vienna-Moscow-Istanbul Alliance), consisting of France, Austria-Hungary, Russia, and the Ottoman Empire.
World War I errupts with an Austro-Russian invation of Presgreif.
1917: The Communist Revolution occures in Russia. The new Communist government signs a peace treaty with the LRKA, by which the whole of Belarus and the Ukraine are ceded to Presgreif.
1918: The Dawn of Nations in Austro-Hungary. In this three month civil war, Hungary, Czech, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia win their independance from the Austrian crown, effectively putting an end to the Empire. Austria signs a humiliating peace with the LRKA, forced to pay hundreds of millions of marks in recompensation.
The Ottoman Empire, unsuccessful in its attempts to reoccupy Greece and Bulgaria, signs a white peace with the LRKA.
1919: By the peace of Paris, France surrenders to the LRKA. France is forced to pay war damages, Italy annexes Corsica, Britain annexes the northern French coast. Britain and Italy divide France's African possessions. The LRKA is victorious. Natalya is crowned Empress of the Greif.

World War Two

In the 1920s and 1930s Fascist regimes take control in several European nations. Austria unites with the Germanian Confederation to form the Second Reich under Adolf Hitler, causing severe tensions with Presgreif. Fascists also take power in Spain and France. These three nations, the Reich, Spain, and France, along with an Asian partner, Japan, form the Axis. Matters come to a head when the Soviet Union joins this alliance.
World War II errupts when the Reich and the Soviet Union invade Presgreif.
1939: Presgreif falls to Reich-Soviet forces. Natalya flees to Britain.
1940: The French force the British out of mainland Europe.
1941: Italy falls to Reich, French, and Spanish forces.
1942: The Reich, Spain, France, and Japan declare war on the Soviet Union.
1943: Reich forces take Moscow, but are soon pushed back by Russian forces.
1944: In a secret agreement with Adolf Hitler, Natalya d'Greif returns to Presgreif to encourage her people to rise up against the Communist occupiers. Combined Reich-Greifan forces successfully stall the Red Army's advance, recapturing much of Presgreif.
1945: The USA drops hydrogen bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, putting an end to Japan's role in the war.
The Axis powers sign a peace with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union ultimatly gains from this war, annexing the former Greifan territories of Belarus and the Unkraine.
The union of Presgreif and The Reich is announced. The new state becomes known as the Greifan Reich. Adolf Hitler remains fhurer of the Reich, while Natalya acts as a figurehead Empress.
1946: The Reich successfully drops a hydrogen bomb on London. Great Britain surrenders, returning France's pre-WW1 territories and recognizing the independance of Ireland.
The USA signs a white peace with the Axis.
Corsica and Sardinia are annexed by France. Italy, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary are incorporated into the Reich. World War II ends.

Post War Events

At this point, a three way stand-off begins between the Reich and France, the Soviet Union, and the USA.
Over the next 45 years, other than small skirmishes and minor wars, peace reigns.
Adolf Hitler dies in 1964, having accomplished his goals of European dominance and the extermination of the European Jews. In a swift and bloody political maneuver, Natalya takes absolute control of the Greifan Reich.
In 1969 the Greifan Reich makes mankind's first moon landing.
Fransisco Franco dies in 1975. The Spanish try to revert to democracy, but fail. Under its new leadership, Spain becomes nothing more than a puppet of the Greifan Reich.
The Soviet Union collapses in 1990. The Reich declares war on the newly free republics of Belarus and the Ukraine, swiftly conquering these nations. Russia, realing from internal strife, does not react.

My NS nation begins its history around this time. On my Earth, the world is divided between the USA, the Greifan Reich, and China (whos history I didn't bother to record here). The original document is much longer, but I'm still tweaking it. This is a summary.
