The Exiled Elves (Open)

Tranlar roses slowly, rubbing his eyes. Fine elven features took in the beach where he lay. The sand seemed grittier, rougher than he was used to. Try as he might, however, Tranlar could not remember exactly what it was he was accustomed to. He remembered little more than his name. Glancing down, Tranlar noticed his courtly finery in colors of white and red. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew he was a man born to high station. Looking around, he saw other elves lying on the beach. The crowd rose. There must have been hundreds. Hundreds of elven eyes looked around in confusion. Whispered conversations spread among the gathered elves. It seemed no one remembered where they had come from or why they were here. Tranlar moved quickly through the crowd, surveying them with his commanding gaze. He sighed, slowly, softly. Almost as quickly as the sigh escaped his lips, Tranlar had a determined look once more. These elves needed a leader. But, in truth, he knew not what to do.

Lillith sighed lightly as she gazed out over the ocean. She brushed a few strands of light brown hair behind an elegantly pointed ear. She sung quietly, a song in a language she barely remembered, a song of ancient beauty and power. She wondered where she was from and if there were any other elves out there. Her fair, delicate brow furrowed as she sought to remember her own past. A pointed ear perked as she heard sounds off in the distance. Surely there must be other beings on the island. She vaguely remembered another race she had known in ancient times, a race of men and women. There were other things too...things well beyond her memory at present. Lillith folded her hands demurely in the lap of her fine gown of white and orange. A small, gentle smile touched her subtle lips. All things would be clear in time. She just had to wait. The elven lady stared out to see for hours before her eyelids began to grow heavy. She settled her head down on the sand with a smile and drifted off to dream of a past she could not remember.

OOC: Are people of any tech allowed to join?
31-01-2004, 14:31
((Yes. The main society of the island has modern tech level, for the record. These elves, for now, basically have midieval tech until they get in contact with the main population. But people of any tech can interact with them, etc. etc.))

Far offshore, black shapes cut through the air, massive vessels, some larger that carriers sped through the darkness of night.

Aboard them were not humans, but elves, Sindar, ready for battle if the need be. These ships were the First Fleet, newly built by the Thelasi government.

Powerfull scanners searched the night for hostiles, or even friends. On the bridge of the lead ship Acharn, the Admiral peered around him at the circular bridge that housed the command staff, one of the officers had picked up an annomaly in the Thermal sensors, "Admiral, humanoid objects detected, estimation by heat emitions either elves or humans, unknown technology, no-heat indicative of high tech."

"Okay, helms, change course, fifty five degrees starboard."

"Aye Sir, helm change confirmed"

Once the fleet had reached 150 feet from the shore where the elves were, the running and flood lights went on, illuminating the massive fleet.

"Marine Commander, launch three dropships, find out who those people are, if they are slaves, free them, national, start diplomatic relations."

"Sir!"

Three dropships launch from the lead carrier, flying twoards the shore line.

Lillith smiled lightly as the boats approached, moving quietly to a small rock nearest to the shore. The others looked on in confused curiosity as the lady began to sing a soft song in Sindarin.

"I know not where my heart belongs.
I know not from whence I fare.
My soul wells up with ten thousand songs
Of places I know not where.
And so I sit on the shore and sing
And await whatever may come.
I know not what the future where bring
Or the past that I come from."

She crossed her legs beneath her elegant skirts as she sat, watching the boats approach.

A boy with piercing blue eyes wandered from behind some brush...
he had an odd iron bar in his hand with a sharpened, faceted, transparent tip.
31-01-2004, 16:23
The elves looked to the boy sharply. They took a step back from the iron instrument, deep frowns maring fair faces. Tranlar movesd slowly towards the boy, holding up a hand in warning. "What do you want, oh human child?"

Tranlar tried to smile, tried to look soft and gentle. Nonetheless, there was a hardness in his eyes as he regarded the boy and a firmness in his tone. His eyes slowly moved up and down the child as his fair hand instinctively reached for a sword, though he was not wearing one. Two other elven men moved to flank Tranlar, also frowning severely. They looked to each other and began to move to flank the boy.

Lillith, meanwhile, continued to watch the boats approach. She did not deign to notice any of the commotion going on along the shore behind her.

The three dropships landed, their engines kicking up the sand. As their ramps touched the dirt, twelve marines jumped out of each of them, crouching, and covering the beach with their rifles. The displays inside their helmets showing the read outs from the sensors on their rifles. After they secured the area, the marine commander stepped out of the lead dropship.

The other soldiers slowly rose, lowering their rifles to give their commander a less threatening appearance. The commander took off his helmet, revealing elven fetures, in Sindar he said, "We come as friends, who is your leader?"

Lillian rose, smiling faintly and speaking in Sindar. "We have no leader or rather none that I know. We seem not to remember from whence it is we come, m'lord." She sighed slightly. "I have vague memories of a land so beautiful that it simply defies the telling but the specifics elude my mind." She approached and curtsied with simple elegance and grace. "I would estimate their are about a thousand upon these beaches."

The commander nodded, "I see" He turned to one of the soldiers, he spoke in an odd mix, to the elves, it sounded like an odd twist of Sindar, harsher, almost like Black Speech, but with out the inner darkness, after a short conversation with the soldier he turned back, "Do you remember what the land you came from looked like?"

Lillith paused a long moment, struggling to remember before speaking slowly. "It was a land of beauty beyond the telling. The fields were filled with flowers of a thousand bright colors and the moon kissed the streams with a gentle light that defies the telling. It was a land of woods, filled with life and with...spirits. It was a place where honor was pure, love was true, and beauty was beyond anything here. We were more there, the elves. We were greater, closer to what we must have been in the world before its breaking." She paused again, blushing slightly. "I suppose that discreption is less than useful for purposes of geography. I can't really remember much. I only know it was beautiful. And I can't go back. I know that in my heart. It is a heavy burdern to accept but it is one I must bare, I and my people. I only wish I knew why we've left. I can't imagne leaving a place like that voluntarily." She looked off a moment before returning her gaze to the commander. "I am Lillith, by the way, High Lady and Matriarch of my House."

The Thelas officer nodded, "Do your people have provisions?" The Thelasi turned to look back at the fleet. "At any rate, if one of you, representative of your people, could come aboard the command ship, it would be easier to negotiate."

Through the darkness the frigate FNS Dasher came upon the imposing size of the Thelas fleet. A small gnat compared to the fleet assembled, the frigate had been dispatched from a routine test run to check out large disturbances that Intel freighters had observed, and sonar buoys had been screaming about for days. The ship shrank away for a moment, carefully studying what it saw before them, a fleet that size so close to a shore usually only meant one thing, an amphibious invasion, but there were no signs of battle, three dropships were observed on the beach, but no bullets peirced the sky, the cannons of the fleet did not fire great shells miles inland, whatever was going on, it seemed peaceful.

For a moment the frigate just hung there, not moving at all, on board was a different story as the crew scurried about to figure out what they had stumbled upon. Intel reports showed no conflict in this area, perhaps they had come upon a secret meeting of some kind? The proper thing to do according to the Naval manual of Operations was for the Dasher to radio the nearest base or fleet the frigate's current position, and some details of what it had encountered. But the Dasher's captain held firm, a sudden transmission might provoke the fleet to fire on the Dasher. Instead, after an odd moment of silence, the signal lights of the Dasher began to blink, in the universal morse code. They sent a clear, unmeshed message to the large fleet standing before them.

Unidentified fleet..... FNS Dasher signaling, friendly... have spotted landing party presumed to be yours..... do you require assistance?

On the bridge of the Dasher, Commander Clark Miles leaned heavily in his chair, what was happening here, would his signal be returned, and would it be returned by normal communications, or by a rain of gunfire. He knew not what he had stumbled upon, but only held firm to his resolve that for the time being, he was the representative of the Federal Republic, and his interest was peaked....

Lillith nodded. "I belive that I am the lady here of highest rank. I would be glad to speak with you. Though...I am afraid I must ask after your use of the term 'negotiations'. I would prefer to think of it as a friendly talk, m'lord." She gave a disarming smile.
