Continued income from the Armada's sale of ships to other nations on the open market has given the Armada a surplus of several trillion dollars. The Armada plans to construct up to fifty new vessels with these and other funds. Current plans call for most of the ships to be combat types, but at least ten are expected to be general purpose, mostly Andromeda class. This fleet expansion is the first in almost a century for the Armada, and is made all the more interesting because of the fact that the Xanthalian economy is in a recession. "We owe a lot to our customers in the international market, it's thanks to them that we are able to expand and continue to effectively protect Xanthal." said Ministry director Charles Medley. Concerns have mounted recently regarding the ability of the Xanthalian Armada to defend the nation from its ever more advanced neighbors in the galactic community, the fleet expansion is to be followed by a full fleet review to address these concerns and determine their validity. If the Armada is found to be ineffective, several major changes may be put into effect.
