Background
An assortment of petty kingdoms cobbled together over 600 years, the United Kingdom of Isselmere-Nieland (UKIN) participated, insofar as it was able, in the First and Second World Wars on the side of the Allies, with its contingent considered part of British Commonwealth forces. Since 1945, the UKIN has attempted, but failed to participate in a number of international incidents.

Location
The island of Lethe is in the North Sea.

Gudrof is to the south, Hoblingland to the east, and Lower Whingeing to the north.

Climate
Beset by rain and heavy winds most times of the year, and subject to rapid changes.
Terrain
The northern boundary is almost entirely marshland. A heavily eroded mountain range divides Nieland from the rest of the country. The rest is a mixture of hills, valleys, and lake country.
